Inspired by million pound thread, I thought what if anything could you buy with 4 x the average full time salary (32,000) so 128K mortgage and a 10% deposit 13K = 141K call it 140 to allow for fees
90 minutes is considered the longest reasonable commute . So I thought what is the biggest accommodation you can get near you that is liveable ie no renovation just re-decorating the electrics and plumbing are safe not necessarily modern

why would you have to change it from 25 miles to 20 miles??

@FabFebHalfTerm I also searched within 20 miles. I used Zoopla, you can only select 20 or 30 miles, no option for 25.

3 bed terrace is 50 mins away in Cardiff, sale by auction. There's others going into the valleys. Plenty of people do commute to Bristol

macshoto · 20/02/2024 20:08

Not 20 miles from me, but I note you could get a spot in the Old Hall community in Suffolk that was written up in today's Guardian:

More locally it's only retirement flats on that budget plus some park homes in Weston

trampoline123 · 20/02/2024 20:14

Quick look on Rightmove...there's one listing, which is a 3 bed boat house

Naptrappedmummy · 20/02/2024 20:14

2 bed flat or 1 bed house.

mummaoftwogirls · 20/02/2024 20:15

A two bed flat in a decent area or a three bed terraced but in a rough area

girljulian · 20/02/2024 20:18

1 bed flat. There are quite a lot of them but nothing any bigger.

ZebraPensAreLife · 20/02/2024 20:18

That’s literally a converted garage, isn’t it? Still, someone will buy it.

Shetlands · 20/02/2024 20:23

Locally absolutely nothing for £140,000
Within 10 miles are a few 1 bed flats in a town.
Within 25 miles are some 2 bed flats in a city.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 20/02/2024 20:24

Within 3 miles, a 1 bed flat in a quite dodgy council estate. Within 8 miles, a 2 bed, again in a council estate.

rubyslipperss · 20/02/2024 20:25

A lean too in the woods ...

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/02/2024 20:26

A couple of garages or lock-ups. You'd need another £20k or so for a studio flat without parking.

mondaytosunday · 20/02/2024 20:29

Couple one bedrooms with work needed that are up for auction. Couple studios also needing work. A park home. Most at the far end of distance.

Fluffyhoglets · 20/02/2024 20:33

I searched just for 140k

2 or 3 bed ex local authority - lots of those
2 or 3 bed terraces
1/2 bed flats in the biggest city

Silverblue1985 · 20/02/2024 20:34

A 26sqm studio 6.5 miles away. Rest are pretty much retirement properties. Also some shared ownership.

Locally nothing (unless shared ownership). Could just get a couple of beach huts. they’re marketed as studios 😂

ODFOx · 20/02/2024 20:38

Nothing liveable.
A garage in a town 20 miles away.

Pfpppl · 20/02/2024 20:38

If you discount retirement homes, shared ownership and auction lots then you are left with house boats, park homes or a 2 bed flat in a not great area. Some decent 1 bed flats, but nothing decent for a family.

nonsensicalmess · 20/02/2024 20:43

A 3-4 bed semi detached or mid/end terrace. In NI.
