Inspired by million pound thread, I thought what if anything could you buy with 4 x the average full time salary (32,000) so 128K mortgage and a 10% deposit 13K = 141K call it 140 to allow for fees
90 minutes is considered the longest reasonable commute . So I thought what is the biggest accommodation you can get near you that is liveable ie no renovation just re-decorating the electrics and plumbing are safe not necessarily modern

Nothing you could live in, unless you mean pitching a tent in a parking space.

Rockschooldropout · 20/02/2024 17:41

A plot of land ! .. or failing that a run down 2 bed terrace in an area you’d rather avoid .

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 20/02/2024 17:41

Some retirement properties, static caravan/park homes and a few 1 bed flats. Not a lot of choice.

aitchteeaitch · 20/02/2024 17:41

A reasonable 1-bedroom flat in a not particularly nice area of a large town.

Alternatively, a retirement property in a purpose-built block, and we all know how hard they are to sell again.

If I was single with no kids I’d buy that and try living on a boat for a bit, looks fun if not chilly in the winter…

FloopyMango · 20/02/2024 17:42

A garage.

Unknown25 · 20/02/2024 17:42

580 properties came up when I searched. Mainly 2/3 bed terraces in ok areas.

Talipesmum · 20/02/2024 17:42

Retirement homes, park lodges where you can’t live, a few barges and parking spaces.

Then mostly one bed flats or studios.

BringItOnxxx · 20/02/2024 17:42

2 bed flat

I had to laugh at the first suggestion with those parameters on Rightmove.

The others that came close to the £140k are all shared ownership (I'm SE London)

Wow yours is way nicer (in look and location) than mine!

TeaGloriousTea · 20/02/2024 17:45

Small 2 bed terrace or a bigger 3 bed semi with car parking. I won’t say where as seems rude but it’s a shit hole.

Ragruggers · 20/02/2024 17:45

Sadly nothing except a plot of land.Cornwall

Queijo · 20/02/2024 17:45

A studio with a shared courtyard in a really shady part of the city.

Edited to add I bought my 2 bed terrace 7 years ago for £160k and it’s in a lovely part of the city, so it’s complete madness how prices have gone up since then.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 20/02/2024 17:46

34,000k is the UK median salary for a fulltime worker so 50% of people earn less and 50% earn more according to ONS

A park home.

LynneBenfield · 20/02/2024 17:47

2 bed semi or 3 bed ex LA terraces in the worst areas

1 bed or studio flat on new build, commuter housing estates

Nothing in the nicer areas

trulyunruly01 · 20/02/2024 17:47

A half share in a 2 bed flat or a 25% of a 4 bed house with a handkerchief garden. With rent to be paid on the remainder.

Punxsatawnyphil · 20/02/2024 17:47

Flats or terraced shared ownership house.

Spirallingdownwards · 20/02/2024 17:48

a park home maybe if any were available.

A garage, shared ownership, retirement property or a one bed flat with a 49 year lease and a sitting tenant.
