Inspired by million pound thread, I thought what if anything could you buy with 4 x the average full time salary (32,000) so 128K mortgage and a 10% deposit 13K = 141K call it 140 to allow for fees
90 minutes is considered the longest reasonable commute . So I thought what is the biggest accommodation you can get near you that is liveable ie no renovation just re-decorating the electrics and plumbing are safe not necessarily modern

A studio or 1 bedroom flat somewhere you don't actually want to live. Probably with shared owndership.

This for me too.

muddyford · 20/02/2024 19:38

A park home.

Devilshands · 20/02/2024 19:38

Flat with a sea view.

5 miles, however...not even a parking space. 😐

soupfiend · 20/02/2024 19:38

9 pages of properties once I filtered out all of the retirement and shared ownership properties.

Biggest properties are 3 bed flats, no houses, lots of nice ones.

Floralnomad · 20/02/2024 19:40

A park home or a 1 bed retirement flat .

soupfiend · 20/02/2024 19:41

I tell a lie there are 4 houses.

Reugny · 20/02/2024 19:42

A single garage.

Though as they do as the crow flies you can get shared ownership of a one bed, a retirement flat or a park home.

Oddly they all cost exactly £140k....

unsync · 20/02/2024 19:43

1 bedroom flat, building plot or a mobile home.

Sadly nothing except a plot of land.Cornwall

Really?

Anonymouslyposting · 20/02/2024 19:46

A parking space or a garage.

Or, having checked on rightmove, this freehold of a property where all the constituent parts have been sold off on long leases: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/141810509#/?channel=RES_BUY

transformandriseup · 20/02/2024 19:49

In St Ives you would get a parking space but in Camborne you could buy a two Victorian terrace which needed work and probably no parking. Or a two bedroom flat.

transformandriseup · 20/02/2024 19:49

Two bedroom that should say.

Meadowfinch · 20/02/2024 19:52

£140k - A studio apartment on a 125yr lease, with one parking space and a pocket handkerchief garden with room for two chairs, a couple of pots and a barbecue.

DreamingInPhosphorescence · 20/02/2024 19:52

Three bed semi, if you’re not too fussy about location.

Perfectlystill · 20/02/2024 19:53

A small garage

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 20/02/2024 17:41

Some retirement properties, static caravan/park homes and a few 1 bed flats. Not a lot of choice.

Same

CadyEastman · 20/02/2024 19:54

3 bed ex-council semi in need of updating but you could live in it as is.

Freefree · 20/02/2024 19:54

Wow I think I need to move cities!
Here in North west it would get you a 2 or possibly 3 bed terraced in an ok area or a 3 bed semi in a very very bad area

boysmuminherts · 20/02/2024 19:57

Studio flat

110APiccadilly · 20/02/2024 19:57

Round my way, you can get a 2 bed house in decent condition or a 3 bed that needs a lot of work (but would have services, be safe etc) for that.

SomethingDifferentt · 20/02/2024 20:03

2 x 5 beds and 3 x 4 beds.

All decent enough internally, NOT auction (so actual sale price £140k and under) and within 20 miles of my postcode.

All in fairly undesirable areas that I wouldn't want to live in even if they cost £14k tbh.

Many, many 2 and 3 beds in slightly better areas for £140k and under (but that I still wouldn't personally want to live - average areas but awful schools).

Open fields to the rear!

macshoto · 20/02/2024 20:05

A project (e.g. unconverted barn, plot of land, or derelict house) or a park home, if you want something detached:

e.g. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/144748985 with £40k for making it habitable.

A terrace in Llanidloes, Llandrindod Wells, or Newtown:

StamppotAndGravy · 20/02/2024 20:06

Haha, you can really only buy a lockup here for that much. They start at a mere 65k
