Inspired by million pound thread, I thought what if anything could you buy with 4 x the average full time salary (32,000) so 128K mortgage and a 10% deposit 13K = 141K call it 140 to allow for fees
90 minutes is considered the longest reasonable commute . So I thought what is the biggest accommodation you can get near you that is liveable ie no renovation just re-decorating the electrics and plumbing are safe not necessarily modern

1 bed flats - mostly teeny tiny, Some retirement properties, static caravan/park homes...

WimbyAce · 24/02/2024 23:10

Same as above!

400 plus possibles, ranging from holiday lodges to 3 bed houses in dodgy areas. There are some one or two bedroom flats in okay areas of two meh towns.

Rocket1982 · 24/02/2024 23:40

Some fairly reasonable studio flats and a few tiny/grotty 1 bed flats with very short leases. Houseboats and park homes. This is an interesting container property: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/142494248#/?channel=RES_BUY but there is a short lease.

25% shared ownership of a 1 bed flat in Newbury (20 miles away), with "amazing views across the communal roof gardens" 😂

2019 Ferrari Portofino or 2022 Aston Martin Vantage Roadster at the supercar dealer in Pangbourne 😎

Interesting I live in Newbury and I found a 2 bed flat in Swindon and several one beds in Newbury. Andover it would only get you a studio.

Imonthebloodyphone · 25/02/2024 09:07

I took out all the shared ownership and retirement properties and was left with 600-odd properties. However, many of these are auction sales so will probably fetch more than the £140k guide price.

Discounting them too, I'm left with studios in down-at-heel London commuter towns plus the odd park home.

This is why I am encouraging my kids to build lives in their northern uni towns, where they are more likely to be able to afford to live life and have a family.

A one or two bed flat in a city tower block. Nothing that price closer than 10 miles radius
