Inspired by million pound thread, I thought what if anything could you buy with 4 x the average full time salary (32,000) so 128K mortgage and a 10% deposit 13K = 141K call it 140 to allow for fees
90 minutes is considered the longest reasonable commute . So I thought what is the biggest accommodation you can get near you that is liveable ie no renovation just re-decorating the electrics and plumbing are safe not necessarily modern

A studio or 1 bedroom flat somewhere you don't actually want to live. Probably with shared owndership.

Walkingwithdinosaurs · 20/02/2024 17:35

I am in Northern Ireland and there’s lots of houses on the market around that. New builds and older houses that need work.

Sirzy · 20/02/2024 17:36

3 bed semi

MandyMotherOfBrian · 20/02/2024 17:36

Has to adjust it to 20 miles but basically either the teeniest of one bedroom flats, although the building is lovely. Or a couple of places where you really really wouldn’t want to live….

TakeMeToKernow · 20/02/2024 17:36

Blidworth is the first place I thought of too!

RunningFromInsanity · 20/02/2024 17:37

Probably an allotment.

Nosepeas · 20/02/2024 17:37

A beach hut.

Camdenish · 20/02/2024 17:37

Very little!

Echobelly · 20/02/2024 17:37

Maybe a garage?

I've just looked and actually there are some retirement flats and static caravans in that price range.

And an actual flat, sorry, maisonette, in a garage in Luton!

Check out this 2 bedroom maisonette for sale on Rightmove

2 bedroom maisonette for sale in Copenhagen Close, Luton, LU3 for £140,000. Marketed by Connells, Leagrave

Where I used to work: a parking space

Where I now work: a 3 bed house with a garden

PegasusReturns · 20/02/2024 17:38

Apart from a freehold of a block of flats where the lease holds have been sold off, nothing.

After that there is a four bedroom flat with a leasehold that expires in 2.5 years. That’ll be £200k.

MuchTooTired · 20/02/2024 17:39

Cheapest property is a 2 bed mobile home. £140k would get a one or two bedroom flat depending up if you wanted a naice area or not.

ZebraPensAreLife · 20/02/2024 17:39

A studio flat somewhere you wouldn’t want to live or a park home

nomoresnacks · 20/02/2024 17:40

I'm in he north and it's flats or 2 bed terraces where you very much wouldn't want to live Sad

Tarkan · 20/02/2024 17:40

If you go towards our nearest city you're more likely to just get a 1 bed flat but in the towns around us there are a bunch of 3 bed terraced and semi-detached houses.

This one isn't too far from me. A very black and white house.

TheChosenTwo · 20/02/2024 17:40

Much more interesting thread (to me anyway!) than the million pound one.

near me that’s brought up some retirement properties and several 1 bedroom flats with no parking and no garden.

midgetastic · 20/02/2024 17:40

You could buy a lot round here

But the average salary round here is 8 to 10k lower than you have assumed

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 20/02/2024 17:40

Shared ownership one bedroom flat or studio.

Wintersgirl · 20/02/2024 17:41

Bugger all......well maybe a garage or beach hut!

ShanghaiDiva · 20/02/2024 17:41

One bed flat.

bzarda · 20/02/2024 17:41

A houseboat!

DinosaurOfFire · 20/02/2024 17:41

Lots of houses at that sort of price around here- within a 20 mile radius, a 4 bed semi detached house with front and back gardens and 3 reception rooms. Closer to my address it would be a 3 bed terrace with 2 or 3 reception rooms and front and back gardens

Anawi · 20/02/2024 17:41

Flev · 20/02/2024 17:34

Ha! Exact same house was at the top of my rightmove list as well 😆 not particularly close to us though.
