Inspired by million pound thread, I thought what if anything could you buy with 4 x the average full time salary (32,000) so 128K mortgage and a 10% deposit 13K = 141K call it 140 to allow for fees
90 minutes is considered the longest reasonable commute . So I thought what is the biggest accommodation you can get near you that is liveable ie no renovation just re-decorating the electrics and plumbing are safe not necessarily modern

One bed flats go for about £150k.

Onthegrid · 20/02/2024 18:20

A grotty 2 bed flat in one of the new towns built to house the people from the east end of London after the war, or a shared ownership flat back in the east end. My commuter town, nothing not even an ex-council flat

A parking spot

3 bed semi which isn't bad considering we're only 7 mins from the beach

I could probably get a 4 bed detached house within 90 mins of me. I live in a nice (and expensive) area if a city but I could buy 3 bed semi or terrace for £140k within a 10 minute drive still in the catchment for my local school system.

Not one but 2 garages! Actually DH and i could hide in one away from the kids....

Must live near you! I love that they include a floor plan! 😄

Toooldtoworry · 20/02/2024 18:25

Studio flat, if you're lucky.

Blingismything · 20/02/2024 18:27

A studio flat for £150,000 20ish miles away

Mynewnameis · 20/02/2024 18:27

1 bed flat, many of which look to have cladding

DiscoBeat · 20/02/2024 18:28

Either a one bed flat, retirement flat or shared ownership terrace. Not much!

Marblessolveeverything · 20/02/2024 18:28

In Dublin a Tesla and I would have to live in it!

Octavia64 · 20/02/2024 18:30

Lots of three bed terraces.

The Fens!

NotMeNoNo · 20/02/2024 18:31

Plenty of choice in 3 bedroom houses in the cheaper areas, mostly Mansfield.

idontlikealdi · 20/02/2024 18:31

There is one property within 25 miles of me for £140. A one bed retirement flat.

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 20/02/2024 18:32

There are loads of auction listings at £1k or £5k guide price for 2-3 bedroom properties (including houses) in the less glamorous parts of north east England.

Fancy a doer-upper in Bishop Auckland or Hartlepool?

ArchetypalBusyMum · 20/02/2024 18:33

Nice little end terrace. Not sure what the exact area is like, but looks ok.

Wow what a house for the money. Great family home

Silverbirch7 · 20/02/2024 18:34

A mobile home

aitchteeaitch · 20/02/2024 17:41

A reasonable 1-bedroom flat in a not particularly nice area of a large town.

Alternatively, a retirement property in a purpose-built block, and we all know how hard they are to sell again.

Same here. Might scrape a one bed flat.

WellWhaddayaKnow · 20/02/2024 18:36

A 3 or 4 bedroom terrace with a garden within 25 mins walk (or 7 mins drive) of Liverpool city centre.

professorcunning · 20/02/2024 18:36

There's a nice looking garage in Clapham. Parking/garage for sale in Lavender Hill, Clapham Junction, London SW11, £140,000 - Zoopla
