Hello
I'm starting a new thread for those with children who are sitting for the 10+ Trinity and Whitgift exams this year.

Keen not be in this journey alone and hopefully share in the experience with others.

Thanks modernmum23. How is prep going for your DS?

modernmum23 · 17/11/2024 11:04

@HopefulDad19 seems to be doing well on the paper based tests. We use atom to mix it up and to prep for other school but his score seems to be all over the place, varying wildly.
How about for your DS?

@modernmum23 Same really. Scores seem inconsistent, so I’m curious to find out if others are experiencing the same - which it sounds like you are. I have also noticed that he finds atom slightly easier than some of the paper based tests.

I know it’s difficult to say, but do you have any idea what the pass mark is likely to be? Also, at what point do they consider a candidate for an academic scholarship? I’ve heard that it’s roughly the 80% mark and then interview dependent, but I haven’t been able to verify that anywhere.

modernmum23 · 18/11/2024 10:52

I've heard the pass mark changes year on year but only slightly. Our school has told us to aim for 70-80% pass rate in the practice exams to put us in a good position but honestly I have no clue what Whitgift are looking for.

Hi Thanks for starting the thread. Do you do 11+ paper based tests such as CGPand Bond?

HopefulDad19 · 24/11/2024 09:21

@Wisemum19 We use a combination of Atom and Bond books. I’ve heard of all the issues surrounding Atom, especially the concerns about their SAS scores and benchmarking capabilities but we find it a good tool to maintain consistency. Has anyone used Exam Paper Plus/ Pre test Plus?

modernmum23 · 24/11/2024 09:49

Our DS sat the ISEB yesterday and the conclusion drawn by DS and the other kids is the ISEB was slightly easier than atom. We also use a mix of CPG books, atom and papers.

I got pretest, it's a bit expensive, it's quite tough, he is scoring around 70% in modules, atom is far more easier, I'm getting him to do CGP papers which helped him in 11+ .

How are people preparing for Whitgift critical thinking paper?

HopefulDad19 · 16/12/2024 00:53

Did any of your DS’ take the Trinity 11+? If so, how did they find it?

user2468love · 21/12/2024 21:11

What a difficult time. DS has completed a few papers last week but it will be difficult to pick up after Christmas.

Audley28 · 06/01/2025 09:32

Good luck for the Whitgift 11+ today! Was googling and found this thread which will be very useful to exchange info if we pass to the next stage!

HopefulDad19 · 06/01/2025 09:43

Thank you @Audley28 . Yes, good luck to all who are taking the Whitgift 11+ today.

user2468love · 06/01/2025 09:47

Yea good luck everyone. What a miserable day. Do we know when we will find out about interviews? Also any ideas how many hours boys turned up for the exam and how many will be offered an interview

modernmum23 · 06/01/2025 10:28

good luck to all the boys. this weather is very grim.
i can only guess we'll know within a week or so if the interviews are to start next week. am i right in thinking they only interview the boys that have passed the exam and not all boys?

OP posts:
HopefulDad19 · 06/01/2025 13:21

@user2468love I’m not sure how many took the exam this year. Some say the numbers of applications is lower than previous years due to rising fees and lower birth rates but we will see I guess.

@modernmum23 Only boys who have been successful with their exam will be invited to interview.

modernmum23 · 06/01/2025 13:43

the hall didn't seem as packed as i thought it would be. it definitely did feel as if ~600 parents were present which is the typical applicant numbers i hear mentioned.

How did your DS do? Mine said that the maths was easy, English ok and the critical thinking paper was tricky but finished it

Audley28 · 07/01/2025 14:00

Hi - I was told before Christmas that 450 boys applied for the 11+. We should hear next week as the interviews start on the 15th.
Anyone applied to Dulwich College too? My friend just got an invite to an interview next week. She applied through the Deferred Entry 13+ process not the 11+.
Fingers crossed for everyone!

Audley28 · 07/01/2025 14:01

Mine also said that Maths was easier than other schools and Critical Thinking hard. English difficult to know with mine!!

HopefulDad19 · 07/01/2025 17:10

My DS also felt good about all the papers, but I’m not sure if that is a good indicator or not. We will find out soon I guess. Didn’t apply to Dulwich, but we did apply to Trinity. When asked, my DS found Trinity’s exam more difficult.

Audley28 · 08/01/2025 15:13

Whitgift sent an email out saying that they will send invites/rejections to interviews on Friday the 10th of Jan... Did you hear from Trinity yet? Good luck to everyone!

DS didn't sit the trinity exam but hopefully they won't keep you waiting too long.

Not heard a response from Trinity either. They said they would get back no later than Jan 14th. Hopefully we hear soon. Good luck!
