When did you/your DD start periods?

I was 13 and DD is now nearly 13, but not started yet, though she’s needed a bra for a couple of years and is already as tall as me. She’s still very slim though (unlike her mother!). I guess it won’t be long until she starts and I feel a bit as if I’m on standby.

How old were you in comparison with your DDs?

I started in my final year of primary, DD started in the summer holidays after leaving primary. She's also taller and slimmer than me!

Biscuitandacuppa · 04/09/2022 18:41

I was 14 and didn’t show any signs of puberty until 12. My dd is 11 and just starting to change so I’d guess she’ll be 13.

Snowdropsarelovely · 04/09/2022 18:42

For me the month before I was 13, for DD 4 months before she was 13

ElizabethSchuyler · 04/09/2022 18:42

i was 13. DD1 was 12 and DD2 was 11

Waitingforever123 · 04/09/2022 18:46

I was 12.
Dd was 13. In the 6 months before I noticed big changes in body shape (is very thin on 1st percentile) but developed hips and breasts grew. The moods became more frequent and the few days before 1st period was next level moody.

PilchardsonToast · 04/09/2022 18:47

I had just turned thirteen and my dd was ten nearly eleven. We're both tall although dd is definitely more developed than I was at her ages.

Before she started but all the signs were there I was really worried she'd start at primary and be too young to deal with it...but actually it worked out well and it was one less thing to adjust to at secondary school!

EspeciallyDivided · 04/09/2022 18:48

I was 12.5 she was 10.5.

TheNonsensePotter · 04/09/2022 18:49

I was 9. DD is 7 so nowhere near but I'm really hoping she will be older than I was- it can be very lonely (not to mention terrifying) going through puberty so young.

Spanielsarepainless · 04/09/2022 18:50

I was ten and a half, and that was nearly sixty years ago. Thank goodness for an early menopause the other end of things.

OrangeBananaFish · 04/09/2022 18:51

I was about 6 weeks before my 11th birthday. DD1 was 11 and still in primary. DD2 is 11 this month and has not started yet, but due to her moods I really don't think she'll be long and expect it to be before she leaves primary also. I just hope its not in her 3 day school residential that she's due to go on soon. She's nervous as it is.

megletthesecond · 04/09/2022 18:52

I was almost 14 and so was DD.

MissVantaBlack · 04/09/2022 18:52

I was 12.3, tall and medium build.

DD1 was 14.11. She's tall and slim build.

DD2 was 12.9. She's tall and medium build.

Feelinfin · 04/09/2022 18:53

15! Although I was slim/small. Pubic hair etc from age of 10. I wonder if it’s (sometimes/always) linked to weight rather than age per se?. As an adult, I have lost my period if I dip beneath 7 & a half stone, so I expect I had to be that weight to start my period? I know I was only 4 stone when I started secondary school!

SillyBub · 04/09/2022 18:54

I was 4 months past 12 and DD 5 months past 12.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 04/09/2022 18:55

I was 12.5 and my dd's were nearly 14 and nearly 15. Youngest started a good few months before her dsis!

whiteroseredrose · 04/09/2022 18:56

Both myself and DD were just after 13th birthdays

lakeswimmer · 04/09/2022 18:56

Very weirdly we were precisely the same age. Both 14 years, 2 months and 10 days (she's now 16). My DM and Dsis started at 14 too.

SpinningFloppa · 04/09/2022 18:57

10

klipwa · 04/09/2022 18:59

I was 11, she was 13.

I put this down to the fact she does loads of exercise and is very slight.

Quornflakegirl · 04/09/2022 19:00

I was 9, my mum was 14. My girls are 10 this month but no signs of puberty yet. They are very tall and slim.

Abraxan · 04/09/2022 19:00

I was 13. DD was 10.

ploopypleepy · 04/09/2022 19:01

Apparently it's weight related. Around the 7, 7.5 stone mark

GenericDietCola · 04/09/2022 19:01

Interesting how much variation there is. I do suspect it is largely driven by weight as I think I filled out a lot before mine started.

OP posts:
Abraxan · 04/09/2022 19:02

Whilst weight can play a part it isn't always the case.

DD wasn't that weight and neither was I, at those ages. We were both well under the weight suggested.

fUNNYfACE36 · 04/09/2022 19:03

I was 13.11 , my dds who are both small and skinny gymnasts were 12.4 and 12.6
