Help! I hid my daughter's switch and now I'm in trouble!

So the story goes like this:
My pre-teen daughter was being naughty, didn't do as she was told (nicely), chatted back in a super-cheeky way, rolled her eyes, lied and then didn't do as she was told again. So I got very cross and took her Switch... And hid it somewhere in the house, told her she will get it back when her behaviour improves.
Fast forward a few weeks... I cannot find the bloody thing... I took apart the whole house... left no thing unturned. It's just gone. It's so strange. I usually remember where I put things. This time, it's like I have a black hole, it's like someone erased the memory of me hiding it. It's like I have an amnesia to this specific moment in time when I was hiding it. I know I hid it but I don't know where.
Since it was also my husband's Switch I am now having to buy him a new one... If I can't find it (deadline set to a week).

Any ideas of how to retrieve this memory please? Any strategies for finding lost subjects? I don't want to buy a new one, it's expensive! Sad

Sorry to derail the thread @supercalifragilicious

@Phepho,
What an amazing gift you have!
I wonder if you can find my DS's large red folder book from his nursery days with photos etc in? TIA

It would be great to see you on AMA!

mountbattenbergcake · 27/10/2021 14:35

@Phepho

There is something lost that was in an ornamental, shiny, wooden case, gold details.

I have a shiny, wooden jewellery case like this in the attic. Could it be this?

theemmadilemma · 27/10/2021 14:47

@Phepho That was uncannily accurate.

drpaddington · 27/10/2021 15:21

I've done this 🙈 DS went without his remote control for months. I'd hidden it in DD's underwear drawer?! Also his laptop was on top of the fridge freezer for a while and the Xbox remote on the top shelf of the shoe cupboard. I really should start taking photos when I hide stuff!

Glad you found it OP!

SunshineCake1 · 27/10/2021 17:03

@sashh

Just a thought, maybe your husband has it but wants a new one he doesn't have to share.
Yep.
SunshineCake1 · 27/10/2021 17:16

Apologies ^ Blush.

Phepho · 27/10/2021 18:52

@mountbattenbergcake
No, I don't think so. It was a flat box with a lid.

TSSDNCOP · 27/10/2021 21:54

Did you take it to work? That's what I do with the x box controller.

TSSDNCOP · 27/10/2021 21:55

Ooops

ThatWardrobe · 28/10/2021 14:13

Brilliant that you found it!

@Phepho I would very much appreciate it if you could give me a hot tip on my car key. It's a flat black rectangle (with the electrics) that you slide the physical key out of and I have looked high and low for over a month, it's stressing me out not having a spare! Thank you so much!

Maggiejardine · 28/10/2021 17:36

Coat pockets? Work bag? Handbags? Rucksack?

ElizabethBoland · 28/10/2021 17:39

Laundry basket

BrumCahoots · 28/10/2021 17:40

Lol .. pray to St Antony ... I'm not religious but he's the saint of lost things !! ... Google it !

Carriecakes80 · 28/10/2021 17:43

I find the best way to find things I have misplaced is sitting down, with a cuppa, and re-thinking the day it happened, retrace your steps in your mind it needs to be quiet, no interruptions, you'll find it. Bet its in a bag somewhere lol. x

spillthebeans · 28/10/2021 17:43

Thanks for this most. For the same reasons I hid my son’s remote control and instantly completely forgot where. I’m so relieved I’m not alone! My husband eventually found it by chance some months later on top of the kitchen cupboards. The relief!!
I also love all the hiding places ideas on this post (will I ever learn?!!!).

Moorethemerrier · 28/10/2021 17:45

Probably been said but are you sure she hasn’t taken it back secretly and is calling your bluff. Totally the type of thing I did with my mum when I was a teen

Callaird · 28/10/2021 17:46

@lnsufficientFuns

This has happened to me SO many times 🤣

It’s like I just don’t even register where i put it

Favourite places: husbands office, high up on one of the bookcases or under my own bed

Recently I’ve taken to snapping a photo of its location to jog my memory!

Me too. Or a note in my phone.

I hid my purse 3 weeks ago found it yesterday when I emptied the recycle bin, I’d put it in the bottom, under the spare bin bags and put a bin bag on top of it, I knew no other bastard would empty the recycle bin!! Purse is back on the bottom.

Shelby1981 · 28/10/2021 17:47

Bottom of wardrobe, top of wardrobe, garage, under the bed....?

Cast your mind back to the day and the argument/events that led up to taking the switch, see if that leads to you remembering?

Blueseasky · 28/10/2021 17:52

She already got to it and now hiding it from you.

tolerable · 28/10/2021 17:52

tissues

SoupDragon · 28/10/2021 17:54

She found it over 24 hours ago!

GrannyRose15 · 28/10/2021 17:56

Lie down in a quiet, darkened room and let your mind wander a bit. Then try to relive the day you hid it. This often works for me when I've lost something.

mellicauli · 28/10/2021 17:56

@Blueseasky exactly what I was going to say!

My son hid my IPad from me in revenge for taking his Xbox away from him. I found it under the bed (of the type that has no space under the bed) when I finally moved it to hoover a year later. I had already forked out £400 for a new one. I thought I'd left it on the train.

Don't buy your husband a new one. This is just the cost of parenting.

mellicauli · 28/10/2021 17:58

she found .. good news

Werehamster · 28/10/2021 17:58

@SoupDragon

She found it over 24 hours ago!
😂

It wouldn't be Mumsnet if people actually read the thread.
