Help! I hid my daughter's switch and now I'm in trouble!

So the story goes like this:
My pre-teen daughter was being naughty, didn't do as she was told (nicely), chatted back in a super-cheeky way, rolled her eyes, lied and then didn't do as she was told again. So I got very cross and took her Switch... And hid it somewhere in the house, told her she will get it back when her behaviour improves.
Fast forward a few weeks... I cannot find the bloody thing... I took apart the whole house... left no thing unturned. It's just gone. It's so strange. I usually remember where I put things. This time, it's like I have a black hole, it's like someone erased the memory of me hiding it. It's like I have an amnesia to this specific moment in time when I was hiding it. I know I hid it but I don't know where.
Since it was also my husband's Switch I am now having to buy him a new one... If I can't find it (deadline set to a week).

Any ideas of how to retrieve this memory please? Any strategies for finding lost subjects? I don't want to buy a new one, it's expensive! Sad

So glad you found it @supercalifragilicious that's a relief! I am going on a hunt for my DCs Nintendo today now which had been missing for about 3 months inspired by this thread.

That said I do know it's not in my underwear draw, damn.

WhiskyXray · 27/10/2021 11:19

Satisfying update.

Werehamster · 27/10/2021 11:20

That's fantastic!!!

I think everyone owes an apology to your daughter though. 😆

jellybeans4 · 27/10/2021 11:21

Omg I can't believe @Phepho was right!!!!

RainingYetAgain · 27/10/2021 11:25

@RubyKitty

In an unworn coat pocket, in an unused bag hanging up Under the sofa, in the middle of the piles of paper on the breakfast bar In your knicker drawer 🤷‍♀️
Thank you. I have been looking for my missing bookclub book since yesterday morning. I have just found it in my Barbour pocket!

Duchess379 · 27/10/2021 11:36

Where's the last place your husband/daughter would go in your house? Kitchen? Dishwasher? Laundry hamper? 😉🤞

mountbattenbergcake · 27/10/2021 11:38

@Phepho any idea where my thick 24ct gold chain could be? Used to be under the bed in my childhood bedroom but we moved most things into the attic when I got married 7 years ago, but the gold chain is missing Sad will be worth £500 at least.

zaffa · 27/10/2021 11:44
@zaffa it's high up, too high. Someone else bundled it up with something else and 'put it away'
I have long suspected it got put in the loft with some other stuff! DH will absolutely be searching up there today and I will let you know if I find it. Thank you!

@Phepho needs to do a AMA

Redcherries · 27/10/2021 12:44

Great its been found.

The posters saying not to buy your husband a new one make me a bit cross, I have a switch I play occasionally, its mine and if my husband lost it and hadn't found it after x amount of time I would be upset (at the loss, not angry with him, these things happen) and would expect him to replace it. Why wouldn't I if he had lost something of mine that I enjoy even if he doesn't understand it himself. What an unfair attitude to have.

But it wasn't really "lost" as it was always going to be in the house somewhere. It's not like she took it to the park and left it on a bench for example.

@ChudraWouldaShouldya

Pray to St Anthony - works every time 👍🏻
Once saw a play called Talk of the Devil, where a young Catholic girl could see saints, the Devil etc, St Anthony hid whatever it was, then brought it back when you prayed. 😁
SpindelWhorl · 27/10/2021 13:03

@Phepho

In a box or a cube with a cut out hole. I have a knack for "seeing" lost items
Unless this thread is an elaborate hoax, that is really very impressive and spooky Grin

@Thebookswereherfriends

Under a bookcase right at the back in the shadows where you can’t see it just by looking! My dd “hid” the remote control when she was 2 and I didn’t find it for about 3 months because of that location!
Toddlers are terrible. DS 14 at the same age put his trainer cup down somewhere, it took 2 hours to find it, it was either that or buy him a new one! Which, considering I was the only adult in the house, would have been a palaver.
Phepho · 27/10/2021 13:31

Glad it was found op.
To those asking about lost items, I'm sorry you've misplaced items- especially if there's sentimental value to them.
I can't 'see' lots of different items at once, it gets jumbled and confusing.
There is something lost that was in an ornamental, shiny, wooden case, gold details. It's in a crisp box, a box you'd buy from the cash and carry or something.

What a fantastically useful gift you have, I'm intrigued, when and how did you realise that what you were "seeing" were lost items?

Is there a name for it? Do you see things but don't know who has lost them?

Sorry to derail the thread but this is fascinating Smile

Phepho · 27/10/2021 14:05

I have aphantasia which means, for me at least, I have no inner voice and can't see images in my head. I can think of a car, know I'm thinking of a car but can't SEE a car.
The best way to describe how I might find something is I think of the item and words or a feeling will pop into my head. I know it sounds incredibly strange.

Cantstopthewaves · 27/10/2021 14:29

Phepho
It sounds fantastically strange but amazing.
Any news on my beloved Grandmother's ruby pendant?

Sorry Phepbo. Something's telling me you wish you never postedGrin

Great you found it OP
