Prepping for Pandemic... 14

OK folks, we have been prepping for a Pandemic for 13 threads now. And a Pandemic we now have.

I think we all know this has gone beyond prepping now. And most of us agree that the UK Government has not really stepped up to the mark. We have had shared advice here from our Italian residents and those in other countries who have taken much more stringent measures.

So this thread continues to be about us being prepared. But it is more than that. It is about support, sharing of information and advice. It is now a community. A community who acknowledged a long time ago that this was always 'Not Just The Flu'

I thank you one and all for being here. We have tough times ahead. But we are all still here. Please share, rant, whatever. The great thing about these threads is that they have always been supportive and non judgemental. I like to think it's a safe space for all of us who are concerned. And trying to do our best. For ourselves. For our loved ones. And for our community and beyond.

@MoonlightMistletoe see .. this is why school closures are important.. horrible isn’t it.. poor mum and baby xx

MoonlightMistletoe · 13/03/2020 22:14

@Sprayitall it's awful, the baby isn't with their mother either I really hope they both recover well :(

MagisCapulus · 13/03/2020 22:16

Namechange!

This is some light relief: www.facebook.com/maz.justice/posts/2562723923942930

JustMeAndMyTins · 13/03/2020 22:17

@MoonlightMistletoe Not sure what that Mirror story was on about - literally the exact same thing was reported more than once in China. I feel like I remember them saying conclusively that it had to have happened in the womb for one of them. Not being flippant about it - just wondering where on earth the Mirror has gotten that idea!

ooopsupsideyourhead · 13/03/2020 22:19

I’m sure there were reports in the back end of Jan of a Chinese newborn being diagnosed in the same circumstances. So I’m not sure the Mirror has it’s facts about “first ever baby” correct.

ooopsupsideyourhead · 13/03/2020 22:20

@JustMeAndMyTins I definitely didn’t imagine it then!

electrichedgehog · 13/03/2020 22:20

I really hope I've misunderstood this
www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/talked-one-devons-first-coronavirus-3947632

Aa I understood it a pharmacist in Torbay tested positive with symptoms on 3rd March, Her husband then tested positive on the 7th.
They were self-isolating for 2 weeks, had a mild illness, are now apparently fully recovered and due to the change in government guidelines were told they could reopen their pharmacy and go back to work there today. 6 days after the husband tested positive. No mention of there being any second test to check they no longer have it.

Really makes me wonder how many of the people who tested positive a week ago are now no longer isolating and back at work.

NatoPMT · 13/03/2020 22:26

There was definitely a baby born in Asia with it. I’m pretty sure both mum and baby did well

I think there was some discussion on whether the mother passed the virus on during birth or when nursing

tryingtoprep · 13/03/2020 22:27

Oh that poor mum and baby. That's awful. So frightening for the mother and to be separated will make it so much harder. I hope they both recover well. It's upsetting what's happening.

Thanks @Sprayitall I'll try that. I have some castor oil somewhere I think.

Thank you @MagisCapulus That's brilliant! It feels good to laugh.

That's such a good idea @wheresmymojo
I wish it was easier to donate to food banks. On a related note I worry about homeless people. With many places closing or having wfh I wonder if temporary shelters could be set up.

MoonlightMistletoe · 13/03/2020 22:27

@ooopsupsideyourhead @JustMeAndMyTins yeah I remember those too, youngest baby so perhaps the baby was younger than the others god knows, it's all very odd.

AlohaMolly · 13/03/2020 22:31

I’m definitely twitching every day - once in the morning and once in the evening. I just feel like I could/should have done/bought more.

I have such a bad relationship with food and I had a binge today (creme eggs and Bakewell tarts!) but I also have an issue with drinking, liquids not alcohol!! I never drink enough anyway but for the last three days I’ve had a latte in the morning and that’s it and now I’ve got a crushing headache but I’m pretty certain all these things are mental health based.

Bloody Johnson. I wish he’d just close everything down.

AmelieTaylor · 13/03/2020 22:33

@BlackeyedSusan. Fuck me. I was getting worried about you. You’ve been posting yours not well, then I read about your fingers. Read it 4 times!! Before I saw the emoticon!!

🙄🤣glad you’re not getting weird things going on 😊

Luckystar777 · 13/03/2020 22:37

I live in a city, everyone is out just like a regular Friday night. My neighbours are having a small party. Epic fail. Angry I'm staying in for a few days as I have a sore throat and mild cough but no fever or anything like that.

Reckon I've enough food for 2 weeks but I tend to buy more than I need as habit, a lot of it needs to be eaten by end of this year :)

BanKittenHeels · 13/03/2020 22:41

Is it worth getting private health insurance do you think

No

Luckystar777 · 13/03/2020 22:45

On the plus side I have loads of books to read in my house :)

AmelieTaylor · 13/03/2020 22:45

@middleager. I wonder if they’ll count all the bodies under patios in the CV numbers or not -tricky one ?!

Someone I’m very close to is driving me utterly insane in the same way as your DH. I said weeks ago he needed to start getting things (hand gel etc) he just laughed at me. He saw some tins of veg I had and asked me if I knew something he didn’t and if I was getting ready for the apocalypse.

I explained for the 45th time why I was getting some bits in & why I thought he should too.

He’s been around tonight. He’s finally accepted CV is an issue (as he nicks more hand gel) & yet was talking about his holiday in the summer, the fact that things will be tight for a month or so, but he can ride that out & then it’ll all start to come right again. (He’s self employed & his industry will be hit hard. He’s already lost his main client, but seems to think he will be able to fill with smaller jobs (he won’t).

He’s got his mums funeral coming up on the 31st of March. Relatives coming in from overseas etc. He’s considered what he’ll do if he’s not well but he he’s adamant that the (crematorium) will not cancel a funeral & hasn’t yet seen an issue with a large gathering of people, vast majority of them elderly.

I’m worried about him as much mentally as physically. He’s already a stress head, living week to week. He’s older, has a few health issues etc and is with the general public all bloody day 😖

MoonlightMistletoe · 13/03/2020 22:49

So when they close schools they will be closed for 13-16 weeks.

Legoandloldolls · 13/03/2020 22:54

Dh has just told me that one of boys private SEN schools are fine with keeping the kids off if that is what parents choose to do. Good news

MoonlightMistletoe · 13/03/2020 22:56

That's great news Lego and very reassuring for you. A local case from me is a student and they've kept the school open.

Pebble21uk · 13/03/2020 22:57

BBC news website headline now says mass gatherings could be cancelled in the UK from next weekend...
Next weekend is a long way away in pandemic terms!

AlohaMolly · 13/03/2020 22:58

Cross post!

RhubarbTea · 13/03/2020 22:58

Yes I was just coming on to say the same. Guardian article here

ChilliMayo · 13/03/2020 22:59

I thought earlier on that it might have been a good idea for some emergency regs on licensing hours - don't think the police and paramedics and A&E should have to deal with the usual town-centre weekend shenanigans on top of all this. Bring back the 11pm licensing rules.

MoonlightMistletoe · 13/03/2020 23:04

I was just reading the same thing!

So what exactly will be in this legislation do we think? I bet school/college/uni isn't included though 🤔
