Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

... and antibacterial hand gel is already out of stock.

Other mums at school gates seem more worried than me right now. You would have thought the penny would drop with everyone now Italy has locked down. When did anyone ever see anything like this in their lifetime?

I have been holding for half a hour trying to get holiday insurance quotes. It's looking more unlikely we will paying for this holiday now.

My museing for the day is that the UK wont lock down until we are in the thousands of cases to prevent unrest. By then peoe will be too scared to leave the house!

Legoandloldolls · 10/03/2020 18:54

35 minutes on hold just for insurance quotes. I'm hoping it will have peaked and be declining by the time we go in July but I have a bad feeling the travel company will fold before then 😭😭😭😭😭

Yes, I heard an interview earlier on Radio 4 that as good as admitted this. They will only take steps once the public are on board. Judging by the preceding clips of people attending the Cheltenham Festival heads are still firmly in the sand.

KundaliniRising · 10/03/2020 19:18

Miaowse thank you, i will have a read of that redit thread. So our gov are keeping information surpressed. Bastards Angry

NatoPMT · 10/03/2020 19:28

Well, suppressing information but waiting until the public are on board until introducing anything

That says it ALL

Legoandloldolls · 10/03/2020 19:33

£500 for a family of 6 to go on a ten day holiday to Spain in July. Not sure we will pay the rest now

itsnotjustflu · 10/03/2020 19:37

Has Lombardy not released their figures today? thx

preponderings · 10/03/2020 19:39

School inspectorate visited DC's school today and ordered that all school trips involving public transport are cancelled until further notice. No mention of closing schools.

Switzerland are only testing those who are ill enough to be in hospital (insurance reasons) or who are medical personnel. Currently 476 (+164 in last 24 hours) Also discussing closing the border with Italy (a problem due to huge numbers of Italians who cross daily to work) at the moment you can only enter with a valid work permit.

AmelieTaylor · 10/03/2020 19:43

Soya Mince. I haven’t had this in years! But I know someone on here keeps mentioning it. I think maybe @HasaDigaEebowai ?

Can anyone recommend a good brand in the UK? (And possibly a good place to get it?!). I’m not looking for one that’s ‘just like meat’. I can’t stand the Linda McCartney stuff as it took meaty’. Just something that’ll take on flavours & bulk out meals.

Same with nutritional yeast. I tried a few which were not great then found one in a big heakth fiid barn place when I lived overseas. I haven’t bought any since being back in the UK (over 15 years😱) and just wondered if anyone had any recommendations?!

Thanks
Just trying to catch up with the thread now

Orangecake123 · 10/03/2020 19:54

I'm sorry about your upcoming holiday Lego.

Sprayitall · 10/03/2020 19:56

Does anyone know how long is the fine £120 for unauthorised absence valid for?

Elsa8 · 10/03/2020 19:56

I know this slightly off the prepping topic, but I feel like some of you might know the answer. Any ideas how long coronavirus test swabs are taking to come back at the moment? An elderly family member has been admitted to hospital with some kind of chest infection and they’re in a bad way, they’ve swabbed him and he’s isolated and wearing a mask so I presume they’re checking for coronavirus. Family seem to think results will be back tonight but I presume for the coronavirus it’ll be 48-72 hours?

torthecatlady · 10/03/2020 19:56

Went to my local Tesco tonight for a few things. I have never seen it so quiet.

Although I have plenty, out of curiosity I checked the following sections: pasta, baked beans, kitchen roll, toilet paper, anti bac kitchen spray, anti bac wipes, paracetamol... all empty, not a single product.

I'm surprised that the tissues were still well stocked, I actually bought a couple of extra boxes to chuck in the cupboard. I've been known to go through a box in a day with a cold or flu as I have chronic sinusitis.

FuckThisWind · 10/03/2020 19:56

@AmelieTaylor I buy Granose brand. Long life packet soya mince. They also do falafel mix, burger mix and sosmix. I'm not a veggie, but there have been times in my life I've relied on it. I get mine from Sainsbury's

Legoandloldolls · 10/03/2020 19:57

Luckily we have only paid £50 deposit each. Not sure what to do next. Its July so we should be on downward trend youd hope by then.

Me and dh might have a good think and maybe right it off, but I need something to look forward to as well.

It's like a dream isn't it?

FuckThisWind · 10/03/2020 19:58

From Googling. Good reviews. Which I'd second.

Can someone explain what is meant by ‘peak’ please? I assumed it would mean that thereafter it would taper off but I’m seeing it used in a way that suggests otherwise...Also, surely unless every last case (around the world, unless quarantined) is seen out once we’re locked down, it’ll just grow again? Am I being stupid?

MissusMaker · 10/03/2020 20:04

I've just sent in an enquiry to our travel insurance company. We are due to travel in 4 weeks to Cyprus which I believe only has 2 cases at present but who knows what will happen. I've just asked them for advice because both kids have medical conditions - which we had declared - so I wonder whether they will suggest more caution in our case?

JustMeAndMyTins · 10/03/2020 20:05

‘Taper off’ is a bit reductive. Let’s say ‘start to decline’.

MissusMaker · 10/03/2020 20:07

@JustMeAndMyTins they are talking about them beginning of the peak' by which I assume they mean the point at which cases start to rise sharply (and uncontrollably). At the moment we are getting a reasonably stable number of new cases each day but at the beginning of the peak we might see 100 new cases, then 300, then 1000 etc.

Regarding the what happens after self-isolation question: that's why all eyes are on China and Hubei province right now...

WwwashYourHands · 10/03/2020 20:13

My public health friend is VERY anti Boris generally but seems to think that he is following scientific advice at the moment.

I must admit that the rise from today does seem to be smaller than I’d feared, so maybe the contact tracing policy is working to a certain extent.
