Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

My friend saying 820 cases, with Italy having 11 days to reach shut down - so those 11 days being peak public infection period.

I’m thinking Boris will go past Italy’s shut down point before taking mass action so as Italy have been stronger with restrictions, we are better working off their point of enforced action

Anyone know what date italy shut schools?

NatoPMT · 10/03/2020 22:13

Italy shut schools on 4 March - 6 days ago

820 cases was 11 days ago

Their more restrictive measures might mean we are silently moving faster

@NatoPMT at least a fortnight ago in the north according to my friend living there

Can I please ask the rationale behind buying water? I noticed in Costco last week every trolley had loo roll, kitchen roll and water but not sure why. Surely the water won't go off?

..... well no one giving out advice.... apparently there were some posters. yeah helpful

I'm not buying water but I imagine it would have traces in it? Of covid?

Pulse oximeter. I have found this one for under £20 for anyone on a tight budget - I think it looks ok and is on prime so at least it has been sat in a warehouse and will not have any virus on it? (at least that is my theory!) amzn.to/3aL41Bm

@CalmYoBadSelf mostly for us it's because we don't want the shops to run out as our tap water is highly chlorinated.

Apparently food banks are running low. I'm going to find out where my local one is and drop a box off

@hubblebubbletoilandtrubble Thank you for the information. Yes I am planning to call them tomorrow and notify absence (I think I have a very valid reason as there was a local case walking down everywhere) I hope the HT will be sensible and understanding. I don’t think it’s too early for me to keep dc at home as it’s in their best interest.

Also to let you know the surgery which was mentioned before have acted dodgy today by deleting two of their previous covid visitor posts. Local people are furious with their serious lack of info and the surgery’s way of deleting posts instead of apologising for the delay of information didn’t go unnoticed. But I believe it’s because there is a lot of grey area in the advice, every surgery is struggling to understand the next steps of action when a case is suspected.

@MoreCoffeeNeeded I bought the rose gold one just now. Also how do we infer that? At what percent one might need expert care? Can anyone advice?

6 days on whole of Italy @twillow, their northern restrictions could mean we speed up 😫😭

That graph would be beautifully so perfect if I were looking at it for a different reason

@hubblebubbletoilandtrubble A massive thank you for your helpful post! It really helps me to know your perspective on this as the possibility of losing my daughter's school place has been a major worry for me.

@NatoPMT I have been planning to keep the children at home with me from the end of this week. This whole discussion has been really useful, and I get the argument about the peaks, but I am still pretty set on being risk averse and stopping sooner rather than later as we are in central London near major transport hubs. So I will probably still stick to this plan. But, I can see the argument for waiting a little longer depending on location!

The water thing - is that because they said in china it was in the sewage system? So people think sewage = water

The longer this goes on and our politicians do nothing, the more cynical I become.

Am I alone in starting to believe BJ is prepared to sacrifice the older generation rather than risk any finanial disruption in the markets or disturbance to the economy.

I have images of BJ and DC rubbing their hands in glee at the long term reduction in demands on the NHS, Care and Pensions budgets achieved by killing off the over 65’s. Add a big bonus in Inheritance Tax, a generational redistribution of wealth and a reduction in the housing crisis and Covid 19 will have neatly resolved many of the current challenges faced by the Conservative government.

I just wonder how people will react when they reflect after this is all over and recognise that viruses dont always target older people. Next time it could be younger generations.

How will people ever trust politicians again to look after the electorate. They are behaving in a complacement manner in terms of preventing the virus reaching the UK, lying to us now about the true numbers of infected people in the community, and hanging NHS workers out to dry by not equipping them to face the demands they will experience in the next few weeks / months.

Our political system is totally broken !!

I’m not finding anything about peak lasting 9-12 weeks, only start of growth to end of new infections starting March and end of peak drop to less than 10% in June

So the whole rise then drop lasting 9-12 weeks

Can anyone clarify?

Breaking news from BBC is that the health minister, Nadine Dorries, has tested positive and is self isolating.

will HUB meetings like whatever the race meeting was today - create the wild fire?

“Proactive school closures—closing schools before there’s a case there—have been shown to be one of the most powerful nonpharmaceutical interventions that we can deploy.”

You’re not alone @inmylifeIlovedthemall

They want the economy back to productive as fast as possible, sacrificing the vulnerable to achieve that

He’s virtually said as much

I really hope this brings the political paradigm shift so long overdue

Re: news on the health minister testing positive.

Well this could be the start of a change of policy.

BJ was with her a coupe of days ago - so will need to self isolate.

Nadine Dorries could shut Parliament?

Shut the fucking schools already!!

Report
RedLentilYellowLentil · 10/03/2020 22:46

The worrying thing about Nadine Dorries is that she has had symptoms since last Friday morning and was only confirmed positive this evening. If that is the speed at which a cabinet minister's test is being processed, it suggests the case numbers being released are really a bit behind reality.

I can't imagine the reaction to parliament being closed but Joe public still needs to send their kids to school!
At the very least they would have a very weak argument for imposing fines on those not sending their kids to school.
