Medical abortion fear

I took my first tablet yesterday and due to take my next lot tomorrow. I’m so scared, I’ve read so many posts and terrified myself into their being issues or it not working.
im 5 weeks. I’m a nurse so I feel like I’m very aware of the medical side and what can go wrong :(

Oooh that would be good. I hate to moan but I put so much thought into when to take the tablets so kids would be asleep and husband about and then the delays have messed that
up ! I feel like going back to bed and sleeping until tomorrow 😭 thank you for your reply. This group has been so helpful I can’t tell you x

Yorkshir27 · 18/08/2022 11:14

Aw I hope your tablets turn up soon 😔 no idea when mine will even be happening as it’s only the consultation on Tuesday, that was the closest appointment.

rather than the surgical option they told me on the initial phone call that I could request to take the pills in the clinic so I could be supervised. One side of me thinks it will be less comforting because I can’t distract myself at home but the other side of me is convinced I’ll get some kind of serious side effect 😔

good luck with yours and hope your pills arrive today 💐

brownbeauty80 · 19/08/2022 13:11

Hey @brownbeauty80 yes they arrived, tracking said today but they turned up yesterday afternoon.

Going to pop the 4 pills in shortly, I’m dreading it 😥 I posted a separate thread as i tonight someone else might be in same position and doing it today.

I’m on my own (have my 2 teens here) so I’m hiding out in the bedroom saying I have bad period pain.

I’m so worried about the pain 😥

Berry888 · 20/08/2022 15:53

@Lucie390
Hope you're doing OK 💐
Sorry everyone I've been quiet, I found a pregnant cat 😂 typical.
I just wanted to update how I've been nearly a week on. I've bled consistently for the past week, only tapered off yesterday but I've felt fine and the slight pain in my boobs has now gone.
Feeling quite relieved and hopefully it is all over with.
Hugs to all of you going through this. Be gentle with yourself afterwards x

Lucie390 · 20/08/2022 16:48

Thank you that’s so kind to ask how I’m doing. Sounds like your on the mend and feeling better. Perhaps the car a good distraction ! 😆

I did put up a separate post about my experience as I found it so helpful to read positive stories. And you have all been so lovely.

Bleeding was bad through night but nothing terrible.

Glad to hear your good x

Good Morning
Hope everyone is doing ok today...

Throwaway38 · 30/08/2022 02:36

Hi, hope no-one minds if I jump in here! I've read through a bunch of these threads & this one has definitely given me the most comfort, but I wanted to ask a more specific question & I hope that's ok!

I'm currently 3+4 weeks (from conception that is, Ive not been going by the first date of my last period), got a scan booked in for this Friday & will be able to pick up the tablets then. I've worked out exactly when I'll be taking the 2nd dose of tablets (due to work/childcare/when partner will be home to help!), at which point I'll be 4+5 weeks.

The main reason I'm here is because I'm absolutely terrified of seeing the fetus when it passes. I'm not worried about the pain as I like to think I have a high pain threshold & I'm very certain on my decision (although i still feel guilty & emotional), but I'm so scared that I'll see the fetus & won't be able to unsee it or that it'll make me feel so much worse in terms of my emotional wellbeing.

If anyone could give me truthful, honest answers (please be TMI if needs be!) so I know what to expect & prepare myself, I'd be so grateful, thank you!

Jackster22 · 30/08/2022 07:19

Hiya @Throwaway38 - I didn’t see a foetus, all I saw was clumpy bloody stringy mucus and small clots so I couldn’t tell you what it was, the lady at BPAS said I wouldn’t be able to tell to be quite honest I didn’t really look that much in depth as like you was worried about this.

hope everyone is ok, sorry I haven’t been on I thought the thread was dead as weirdly today the only time I have been notified of a new post.

sending love

Lucie390 · 30/08/2022 07:38

Hey

I was a bit further along than you and I didn’t see the foetus. I have also previously had a miscarriage at 9 weeks and same medication injected to bring on passing it and didn’t see it then either.

You get clots of jellied blood and tissue but nothing recognisable. I think for some it’s probably helpful to them to think they’ve seen it but at this stage it’s like a grain of rice and not really formed into anything recognisable anyway. It might be what they think they’ve seen isn’t really that & it’s just lumps of the uterus lining being shed.

I posted a positive medical abortion story on another thread as I found it hugely reassuring to read positive stories when I was going through it. To cut a long story short I suffer with very painful periods and was terrified. It was no worse than a period for me and the bleeding wasn’t anything horrendous either. It was heavier 2-3 days after and no pain with it just a heavy period by this time. Xx

Throwaway38 · 30/08/2022 13:31

@Jackster22 @Lucie390 Thank you both so much, this has really helped ease my mind as the thought of it has honestly been keeping me up at night (as well as the obvious!), I really appreciate you both taking the time to reply x

Jackster22 · 30/08/2022 13:43

@Throwaway38 it’s so hard and an emotional time but you have got this xx

scaredandanxious01 · 30/08/2022 16:14

@Throwaway38 i was 4+ 4, I felt large clots coming out of me when I sat on the toilet but when I looked in the toilet it was just full of blood. I never saw anything that looked like anything, I never even got any mucousy blood - just clots and liquid blood.

it’s such a hard thing to go through but you honestly will be ok x

Zkh · 25/11/2022 06:59

Hi I’m just wondering if anyone has felt similar feelings..I’m having a medical abortion today I’m 6 weeks. Firstly I’m absolutely petrified as in what I’m going to see and what the pain will be like. Secondly I can’t even come to terms with the emotions I’m feeling, guilt, loss, sadness and anger at myself etc. for context I’m a 29 y/o at university, for the purpose of building a stable life/career. So I made the decision that It’s not the right time for me to be raising a child. this is by far the hardest most conflicting decision I’ve ever had to make in my life. Has anyone else felt like this despite making this decision? Any advice on pain management? Thanks xx

Jackster22 · 27/11/2022 10:22

Hope it went ok. The feelings you described are completely normal. As for pain relief I didn’t take any until the day after and I just took ibuprofen with lysine. Sending a hug 🤗

DinkyDooDaa · 30/11/2022 13:11

Hi all, this thread has been such a comfort for me. I take my 2nd tablets today and am terrified.

Vanessashanessajenkins2 · 30/11/2022 20:17

Hi @DinkyDooDaa ! How are you doing? Please don't be scared. I hope the stories on here have given you some comfort. It's a difficult experience but we are here for you.

DinkyDooDaa · 30/11/2022 21:47

I’m ok thanks, I’m a few hours in and cramping strongly. This thread has helped hugely.

christmastreetime · 01/12/2022 16:41

Just taken my first pill. Will be able to take the next lot about 26 hours later. Anyway one else going through similar?

DinkyDooDaa · 01/12/2022 20:04

Hey, I went through the same within last 24/48 hours. Took 2nd pills last night so I’m through it now.
After first tablet I had zero symptoms aside from some spotting after 24 hours. I took 2nd set of pills 30 hours later ( last night at 9pm ). I’ve had 3 children so was hoping my cervix was used to opening so that I wouldn’t experience too much pain 😂Within an hour I was having strong period pains, within 2 hours I felt popping sensation and loads of blood and clots came away. Sat on toilet for about 2 hours as didn’t want to see any of it.
i took codeine and ibuprofen throughout and the pain was still strong but very bearable. I would advise keeping on a tight schedule with pain relief for 6-8 hours solidly as I didn’t after 1am and the pain came extremely strongly and inexpectadly again at 3am and it was not bearable, however it quickly calmed down after another dose of codeine. It was all over by 4am and I’ve been bleeding like a heavy period since. Good luck. Overall it was less traumatic than I expected x

christmastreetime · 01/12/2022 21:12

@DinkyDooDaa
Thank you for sharing your experience and I'm glad all has gone well for you. Thanks for the advice with the pain meds BPAS also told me to keep on top of the pain. Thanks again for replying Smile
