Hi everyone...I'm new to Mumsnet and this is my first thread...very exciting!

I tested positive on Monday and think I am due on 3rd December 2010. I don't think anyone has started a December thread yet, so I thought I would get the ball rolling. Sorry if it's already on here somewhere!

This is my first pregnancy and I am so happy! I am trying not to dwell too much on what could go wrong (it's early days) and instead am focusing on how amazing, new and wonderful this feels!

I am still trying to work out what all the BFPs, POAS and the like mean...but I'm having fun trying!

Would be great to hear from you all. x

So morning sickness has really kicked in today. Really hard going at work earlier but luckily my boss is away this week so can keep fairly quiet.

Everything I read recommneded just eating whatever you can keep down so I ditched my 3 bean salad at lunch for a Subway and Diet Coke!

Diet coke seems to really be working though if anyone else needs a tip. Must try harder with the fruits and vegetables though.

I would mostly like to go home and have a nap though now please.

shadowpuss · 12/04/2010 17:12

I've had the most awful day. Found out this morning that a very close friend had taken his own life and I'm just devastated. Later I worried that the shock and grief would have a negative effect on the baby, and now I feel guilty for thinking that. Glad I wasn't due in court today so could just slink off home from work.

Biscuitbreaker · 12/04/2010 17:51

Oh Shadowpuss, what awful awful news. Am so sorry to hear that.

Don't feel guilty, it is natural to want to be strong for your baby. Take it easy. x

HarleyQuinn · 12/04/2010 18:42

Sorry to hear that Shadowpuss x

shadowpuss · 12/04/2010 21:22

Thanks Biscuitbreaker, HarleyQuinn, Just trying to take care of myself and baby tonight. Trying not to feel too stressed but it's not easy. DH is being great though and taking good care of me. xx

HappyGirl1 · 13/04/2010 10:17

Hi Ladies,

Could I join this thread please? I'm due early December (prob the 3rd) and am 6 + 5.. I had a MC in Feb and got pg straight away which is fantastic but also really nervous.

Those of you who have booked in for a private scan? Do you go through your GP to do that? I'd give anything to have an early scan.

My big worry was at the weekend on I was really sick for 24 hours, vomitting, diarhohea (sorry TMI!) and then felt completely fine again. My boobs had been really sore up to that point then basically disappeared for the 24 hours after the sickness. I was scared beyond belief. I did another CB digital then and it said 5+ weeks preg which was a huge relief. Boobs starting to get really sore again which is a relief but still a bit scared it all but disappeared for a day! Tey are getting bigger again too but def not as big as they were last week but maybe it takes a few days to get back to normal. Stress city. Seeing my GP tomorrow, really really hope all is okay.

Great to have this thread btw! Congrats to all

Shadow sorry to hear your news.. hope you get through okay

Hi HappyGirl1 - glad to have you with us. I'm 6+5 too and prob due on the 3rd. I'm not sure about booking a private scan - I'll leave that for someone else to answer.

My boobs are getting bigger too - or so my pleased DH keeps telling me! I had my first pang of sickness yesterday...I was on the train and just felt very queasy all of a sudden. Not pleasant but I was secretly pleased that symptoms were starting to come on! I was in bed for 8.45pm last night -oh dear! I can't shake the tired feeling.

How's everyone doing on the healthy eating front? Something very strange has happened to me...I've gone off chocolate completely. VERY strange for me!

Hi,

So sorry to hear that shadowpuss. Thinking of you.

I did digital yesterday just to check and it said 1-2 when it should have said 3-4. Eeeek. I know they are not wholly accurate so am trying not to think about it too much

LittleCedar · 13/04/2010 10:46

yellowflowers...if this helps at all, I have read that digital tests become increasingly inaccurate the later and later you test as they can't cope beyond a certain hormone level. Hope all is ok x

HappyGirl1 · 13/04/2010 11:21

Yellow I did a CB digital last Saturday when I was really ill (convinced it was a 24 hour bug rather than a baby sickness as DH had it the next day although not as bad!) and I did the test and it said 3-4 wks pregnant rather than 5+.. I completely freaked out as boobs were also not sore.. then though as I started to feel better a few hours later and then on the Sunday I did another CB digital and it said 5+ weeks preg.. so I would just do another in a day or two and see what it says then and if not go see your GP..

Angelgirl79 · 13/04/2010 11:28

Hi all can I join in please - I got my BFB last Thursday and it still hasnt sunk in. I think I am due on 17 December 2010. It is my first baby, although I have one 15 yr old step daughter, and I am incredibly nervous as we have been ttc for a long time.

Just starting to kick in with tiredness and my boobs look like something out of page 3 lol athough they are incredibly sore!!.

How is everyone else doing? When is morning sickness supposed to start?

yellowflowers · 13/04/2010 11:54

thanks both - am sure it's okay as after weekend of feeling sick I felt fine yesterday but back to sore boobs and sick feeling today. fingers' crossed.

PB31 · 13/04/2010 11:56

On the healthy eating thing, I have been trying, and had such good intentions, but failed yesterday. Today's variety of morning sickness just isn't making me want to eat anything other than cream crackers and diet coke which isn't the healthiest start.

I am going to a friend's for dinner on Thurs and she is going to cook fajitas. I am really not sure I will be able to face them but I don't want to a) tell her why until the scan and b) hurt her feelings. Any suggestions?

TheChangeSpiral · 13/04/2010 12:47

So sorry you're having a crap time Shadowpuss - I am too. My mum seems to have gone a bit mental. She hasn't spoken to me for a week and it's really upsetting me.

Then yesterday I had some relatively heavy if shortlived bleeding without pain. I went to the doctors this morning and they told me I've had a threatened miscarriage. I just have to rest and wait ...

I'm usually a very practical person and didn't think I felt that emotionally attached this early in the pregnancy but I've been crying all the time. I really hope everything's ok.

Thanks everyone I'm OK today. Still a bit numb and stunned. Can't quite take it in. It doesn't help that all my family is so far away (in New Zealand). DH is being great though, and pg still seems OK - quite sick this morning and boobs very sore, it hurt just standing under the shower!

TheChangeSpiral I'm thinking of you. Just rest, relax and try and stay positive.

Hello all - greetings from sunny Kenya.
So sorry shadowpuss about your dear friend - I can't imagine how you deal with that sort of news.
Also TheChangeSpiral - got my fingers crossed all is going to be well with you.

Everyone else - I can't believe how many people are feeling sick. I have no symptoms at all except I seem to be putting on loads of weight already. I think I look quite bumpy already too. It's ridiculous this early on, but I'm wondering if being my third time, everything's a bit 'looser' than it should be??? What do you think?

Also - Rapunzel88 (I think it was you) - they told me I was a geriatric "prima gravida" (first time mum) when I was 32, so you're doing quite well I think.

Have put the list in Due Date order.

comtessa · 13/04/2010 14:38

Can I have some advice please? A close friend - who knew we were TTC - is due to start IVF injections on 22nd April. She's five years older than me (35) and has PCOS. She's also said that if this doesn't work on NHS, they can't afford to go private so this is really their only chance. They've been TTC for at least a couple of years. When do I tell her? I know the IVF will cause really hormone rushes and I certainly don't want to tell her during the three months of IVF. I just don't want to make her IVF any worse than it has to be.
She and her DH have of course cut out alcohol and they just thought I was being supportive when I wasn't drinking alcohol around them on Friday...

Help!

Zaft · 13/04/2010 17:38

Hi all, can I join in too? My EDD is 9th December and this will be my first baby. I'm 29. I'm a teacher and off school so spending lots of time driving myself mad reading up on everything! I have sore boobs, occasional abdominal twinges and on and off nausea. Slightly worried as taking some students abroad at the end of the week and don't want to be sick whilst away. Also don't want my boss who is coming with me to guess.

Comtessa: if I were your friend I would probably rather know. I think it might be worse if I felt you had kept it from me to save my feelings. Difficult to say without knowing your friend though.

Wishing you all healthy pregnancies.

Kittykatzen · 13/04/2010 18:50

Comtessa - I understand how difficult things can be if a friend is TTC. I am early on (6+4) but am already anxious about telling a very good friend who has just had a failed cycle of IVF (IVF being her only chance of conception). I am going to play it safe by always being the designated driver and trying to stick to daytime meetups. I am hopeful that if all goes well and I tell her our good news she will be able to be happy for us, but I know it will be bittersweet (and we have to keep hoping her next cycle will be a success).

Miffster · 13/04/2010 21:34

Hi, can I join in too? Congratulations everyone on the pregnancies. This is my first mumsnet post, and my first pregnancy. I'm still struggling to understand all the acronyms. My DD is 18/12/10. I conceived on 28/3/10, I think so am only really in week 3 of pregnancy, not week 5 as is usually given.

Am finding it weird how pregnancy is counted from your first day of last period because one is hardly likely to be pregnant on that date. V. confusing. But anyway.

Erm, my tits hurt a lot. I'm ratty, tired and emotional. I'm also booked to go on holiday next week with OH in Tunisia - booked as a TTC holiday - and am a bit gutted that I will be in a posh hotel, all-inclusive and no drinking and no hammam (Arabic sauna and massage - lovely, but banned in 1st trimester)! Must stop whinging. Am very pleased but also quite scared, IYKWIM.

comtessa · 13/04/2010 22:09

Thanks Zaft and Kittykatzen. That's what I was thinking, but it's nice to have other people think it's a good course of action.

Will bite the bullet and tell her this week. Probably at the same time as giving her her birthday present....

Miffster · 13/04/2010 22:14

Can I ask about acronyms...what's a BFP?
And how come some people can tell by Clearblue how many weeks since conception? My Clearblue test just had a cross???

Kittykatzen · 13/04/2010 22:24

Miffster - a BFP is a Big Fat Positive (after you have POAS - peed on a stick!). I took a while to crack the codes!

Clearblue Digital with Conception indicator predicts how pregnant you are based on your hormone levels, that's how some of us know.

You'll get the hang of it!
