my dd1 has an unusual name - especially when we were in the UK - everyone commented on it.... it is an aussie name - an aboriginal word that means daughter. It was chosen for her by her english dad. Everyone says what a lovely name dd1 has and they have never heard of it. No2 has a name that is not heard a lot but is not unusual.

OHHH dd2 is up from 71 to 66 !!! Dd1's name not found!!

Melpomene - I have a niece who is almost 1 - named Sienna

I grew up with a Storm and sister called Raina...

love rowan and rowenna wanted to call ds rowan at one stage bot dp just said rowan atkinson-no way !

fisil · 26/06/2005 10:54

I love Rowan for boy or girl (but dp wouldn't hear of it cos I had a schoolgirl crush on Rowan Atkinson, who he hates). I know a baby born this year called Rowan Frances. I wonder if they would have called a boy baby exactly the same? Good feminist name, I reckon!

We always call ds1 by his full name although a few other people shorten it. Ds2's name just can't be shortened (I think - although he's only 7 weeks old, so we haven't had time to try much yet). So far we've only lengthened it!

DS1 is Caelan (pronounced Kehlin)
DS2 is Tate

I like unusual names but we have had problems with people continually mispronouncing DS1's name so we deliberately looked for something unusual for DS2 which was easy to pronounce.
