Linnet · 25/06/2005 21:20

There is a little girl who comes into my work and her name is Jezebell.

Dd1 is Kira...
Your name, Kira, is in position number 301 in our 2004 list.
Last year it was in position number 280
Your name has dropped 21 places since last year.
dd1 is nearly 8 and when she was born hardly anybody had heard of the name but since then it has become a bit more popular, especially with the actress Keira Knightley, although her name is spelt differently.

Dd2 is Calista...
Your name, Calista, is in position number 3471 in our 2004 list.
Last year it was in position number 3207
Your name has dropped 264 places since last year
Dd2 was not named after Calista Flockhart, which is what everyone assumes when we tell them her name, ggrr, it's a greek name and it means Beautiful, which of course she is.

stitch · 25/06/2005 21:26

isnt jezebel meant to be some historical figure who betrayed someone?
if that is the case, then why would anyone name their dd that?

jessicasmummy · 25/06/2005 21:29

My Dd is Elewyn, I've never met another one (unfortunately the abbrev. Ellie is very common!) Once taught twins named Tawny and Sharni.

Linnet · 25/06/2005 21:49

The family with the dd called Jezebell are German, not sure if it's a popular name there, or a family name or what but she's the first one I've ever met, and she's a very sweet little girl.

mmmmchocolate · 25/06/2005 21:51

clary · 25/06/2005 22:13

maretta what a great site.
Checked all my family, ds1's name in the 400s but going up, dd in the 2000s and going down, ds2 number 161 in short form (sigh) - i think we were running out of ideas!

Checked dh (very popular name for his aged group) and it was 300 and somthing.

Mine was 4800-odd! well, I have never heard of a baby called my name.

clary · 25/06/2005 22:17

was going to add that I know an Autumn and sister Indigo, with a Majenta also at Indigo's pre-school.
(gosh apologies if they are MN-ers, but let's face it, they are uncommon. Really pretty tho).
Isn't is on MN that someone was a teacher who had a pupil called Truly-Scumptious - and the girl's parents were annoyed that teachers called her Truly???

Carla · 25/06/2005 22:20

A know a dog called Waha.

kazoo · 25/06/2005 22:20

My ds is called Rory and dd is called Evie. I work in a school and so many names remind me of children I have taught some good some bad. I picked Rory because we had never had one in school and thought it was quite rare and I taught a girl called Evie and thought it was a beautiful name and made the decision that if I ever had a girl I would use that name.

Janh · 25/06/2005 22:28

I have a name no-one has heard of (but it is real, not made up - not on that list at all) dh has the name for boys most popular in the year he was born - at uni we knew at least 10 boys with the same name (now 189).

I hate made up names, and don't like names spelt wrong (sorry irishbird! ). With an unusual name you always have to spell it, say where it's from - mostly people say nice things, but it's a pain. Even worse is when you give it on the 'phone, and the receptionist says "what" which is just rude. I get it pronounced wrong, shortened without my say so and spelt in the most amazing ways.

On the other hand didn't want the children to be "Emma G, or John S" as was true in my year at school (both names I like btw).

Our children have names that we thought would be unusual, but aren't really, as old fashioned names are coming back in (680 and 1310 - although her short name is at 62)

My dh really wanted Hector (he's did classical history/history at uni) and for dd we had Esra when we thought she was going to be a boy. But we were going to give it as a second name in case he decided he wanted something more usual when he was grown up.

I guess what I'm saying is choose carefully, names are forever, and I think affect who you are quite significantly. Rant over! . Oh yes, and I do really like my name!
