Hiya,

Just thought it might be nice to start a thread for those of us due in May 2010. I know its only early days but I followed one of these whilst being pg with DS1 and it was invaluable.

Couldn't find one for my dates this time round (might be wrong?) so thought it would be nice to get together, share stories and follow the progress with some others in the same time-period.

I'm due 6/7 May I think. Didn't really plan to have such a short gap between DS1 and DC2 but also didn't do much to prevent it. (IYSWIM!)

Have started feeling nauseous already(!) which I can't believe as I didn't have it nearly as early as this last time round. No sickness last time and a very enjoyable pregnancy - so am hoping for the same again this time round. Slight disaster with giving birth 2 weeks early with no hospital notes or hospital bag, two hours from home and at a family funeral...(!) So am going to stay AT HOME near the end this time round. Really looking forward to giving birth again. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience last time and looking forward to hearing other peoples stories and sharing our pg's together!

mustbemadno3 I've been feeling scarily dizzy too and very headachey so my sympathy is with you. I sat up in bed last night to have a sip of water and just flopped over DH very scary. I've got my next checkup on 25th Jan and feel it cant come quick enough! Having a low lying placenta isnt necessarily anterior. They'll always tell you if it's high or low but it could be anterior, posterior, left or right. Maybe have a look at your scan report in your notes?

mustbemadno3 · 08/01/2010 19:26

firs1 oh thanks for that, i will ask about scan when i see midwife. But yes I'm the same cant wait for appointment, just to have a chat really and check for heartbeat. I think they leave us too long in between, think every 4 weeks would be better.
Are you having a 3d scan at all? I have booked one but not sure if I really want it. I kind of do to hopefully confirm the sex before I go mad buying pink things, and 3d were not avaliable with my first 2DC. So kinda thing this is my last opportunity to experience something different. What do you think?

KateM77 · 16/01/2010 18:10

Hi everyone, hope you're all feeling well at the moment.

Exciting day for me today - we have had an offer accepted on a new house. No chain so hoping to move before end of March. Baby due 8th May. Please reassure me that moving to a completely new area that late on is not total madness!!

PanicMode · 17/01/2010 11:00

Hi KateM77

Congratulations! hope that it all goes smoothly (won't tell you my horror stories of our three moves during my three pgs - they all worked out ok in the end though ). We moved to a totally new area when I was pg with number 3 - I did 'refresher' NCT classes just so I met some new people and got involved with bumps and babes NCT coffee morning - and haven't looked back since, so I'm sure all will be well!

I had a consultant's appointment on Friday - had to have my usual argument about having IV ABs in labour as I have a hole in my heart and a murmur - she's been really good and offered me and the baby a heart scan - if my heart status hasn't changed since my first pregnancy heart scan in 2004 then I can probably avoid a canula and the vast amounts of ABs in my system - fingers crossed!

KateM77 · 17/01/2010 19:13

Thanks panicmode I've managed to find an NCT antenatal course near the new house and it sounds like quite a close community in the village if you want to get involved, so hopefully will make some friends. Fingers crossed I won't end up with any horror stories of my own to tell!

Good luck with the heart scan, hope all goes well

first1 · 21/01/2010 15:00

katem77 I'm moving house too end of Feb, though staying in the same village. MW didn't seem too impressed at the thought of a bit of extra paperwork just to change my address!

panicmode hope you're scan goes well. I have a consultant appt next week re my worsening asthma.

Hope everyone else is well

KateM77 · 21/01/2010 20:12

first1 I'm seeing MW tomorrow...dread to think what the reaction to me moving to an entirely different place is going to be if yours is anything to go by!

Jayfer · 22/01/2010 12:47

Hi all,
Just wondering what your experiences are with your community midwives? Have you seen different ones each time and did they give you the info you should have been given?

Been feeling a little let down by my midwife. Only been 3 times and for the last 2 I've seen a different midwife. She's very nice but a bit useless. I've recently had a gtt test and it was the woman taking the blood who said that I would have to repeat the test at 31wks if it was negative and surely the midwife told me?! She even asked if I'd ever seen the midwife!! I've been asking about antenatal classes and the replacement midwife didn't have a clue. There's been no volunteering of information and I've had to be up to speed to ask the right questions but as its my first I'm a bit clueless on some topics.
I've also had questions regarding the medication I'm taking and the effect on the baby and the labour. She's ref me up to the hospital to see the consultant again and has written in my notes that I'm extremely anxious about it despite her reassurances (she just said she was sure it was fine but that she didn't really know). Does this make me sound like a neurotic mother to be?

Is it hormones that's making me feel a little miffed?!

mustbemadno3 · 22/01/2010 16:44

jayfer I am in agreement with you. I have only seen the m/w twice, due to see her next week but I think she may have forgotten what I look like! I would love to do a pregnancy yoga class but lack of information in my area and from m/w is quite shocking. I swear I was seen a lot more with my other 2 dc, especially with my first. When I have seen the m/w I do feel like I am just another number but at least I have seen the same one.
And no you do not sound neorotic to me!

Jayfer · 23/01/2010 13:51

Thanks mustbemad. Having no previous experience with all this is quite tricky. Have been relying on my mum and sister for info.

PapaNouveau · 27/01/2010 09:03

Congratulations to every one on your imminent arrivals

We're (my wife and I) expecting our first baby on 5th May (I hope it arrives bang on that date its quite significant will also make it a little easier for me to attend the birth as well.

So how many women actually deliver on their due date (any tips other than x'ing your legs!)?

PanicMode · 27/01/2010 10:06

"Felicitations" PapaNouveau!

So far, I have had a due date baby, a day before due date baby and a day after due date baby. No idea how that happened - and bets are on for when number four makes his/her appearance - I'll probably go wildly overdue and drive everyone crazy.

Anyway, enjoy the last couple of months of peace and quiet!

first1 · 02/02/2010 11:50

Jayfer You are not neurotic! Sorry your midwife sounds so crappy, mine's pretty useless too. She only does antenatal appointments at my surgery for 2hrs once a week, meaning I've had to pretty much book all my appointments with her like 6weeks in advance to make sure I can squeeze into one of her 10min slots. For a first time mum-to-be I'm not impressed! But my GP has been excellent and to be honest I call him more readily if I have any worries. Also been referred to the consultant unit for advice on how my asthma will be controlled as my lungs get more squashed in 3rd tri and labour. I've been once and am going back next week, have a feeling they want to check me every fortnight or so which is reassuring.

Katem77 how's the move going? We're moving on 19th Feb. I'm sick of seeing boxes everywhere I look!

Everyone It's February! We're getting closer! Hope everyone is well?

KateM77 · 02/02/2010 19:49

All seems to be progressing well with solicitors, survey etc. so fingers crossed we'll have a move date soon. Thankfully no packing of boxes to deal with just yet. Hope your move goes well first1

Still feeling quite well on the whole, but keep having trouble sleeping. Either getting cramp in my legs or just being wide awake for hours. Have bought a big support pillow and slept well the last couple of nights, although DH is away at the moment so having the bed to myself may have something to do with it

charzie · 03/02/2010 12:00

hey may ladies was wondering if any of you have sent your health grant forms off and if anyone has recieved thier grants yet? hope all ur pregnacies are goin well

newmomma · 03/02/2010 13:37

hey charzie I sent mine off yesterday so obviously haven't heard anything yet.

But most people seem to be saying that it takes about three weeks to come through.

Assuming they don't query some silly mistake on the form which seem quite common.

KateM77 · 03/02/2010 19:45

Sent mine off about a week ago, but nothing yet. Expecting it to take 3-4 weeks

Mouseplus1 · 03/02/2010 19:59

hiya, I sent mine off 2 weeks ago and havent heard anything yet, am having a panic about a silly mistake i made. hope this doesnt mean i miss out!

first1 · 04/02/2010 11:25

I'm not seeing my MW again until 28+3 weeks, do I have to wait to get the form then or will my GP be able to give it to me?

mustbemadno3 · 04/02/2010 21:59

first1 Your midwife should give it to you. When did you last see her? I saw m/w at 25 weeks and got it then, but not due to see her until 30 weeks now. Only sent it off yesterday though as I forgot!!! baby brain!

Has anybody started or been given info on ante natal classes yet? I could do with a refresher course as I cant remember lots of things, good job really otherwise I wouldn't be doing it again!! haha!

KaffaCakes · 04/02/2010 22:34

Hello! My first time posting on mumsnet. I'm due on 17th May, so currently 25+4 I think with my first. I too have only had three midwife appointments, I keep wondering if I am meant to be doing more or asking more or doing less?! I have no idea what I'm doing frankly! Started going to aqua natal classes at my local pool, it has been so nice meeting other mums to be and to hang out with people with bumps. I have booked my antenatal classes, is only two normal? Is it worth going to the parenting drop in classes and breast feeding clinics do you think? I'm the first out my friends and family to have a baby so I feel a little lost! My boyfriend is wonderful and very supportive luckily but he has no idea either. Also, I don't know what to expect from midwife appointments. Sounds like a few of you have also been given just a few ten minute slots too. All she does is take my wee sample and listens to the baby's heartbeat! No bump measuring or weighing of me yet. What should I expect and is the frequency of antenatal appointments increased in the third trimester? Sorry for the massively long post!!!

first1 · 05/02/2010 11:48

KaffaCakes Snap due date Also pregnant with my first. I start my antenatal classes at 29weeks, I get 3 sessions with the MW and 1 with the health visitor but don't what is normal I'm afraid. Again I don't know if this is the same, but I have checkups at 28, 32, 34, 36, 38, 39, 40, 41 (please God I wont go that long!) weeks. So far I've just had my wee dipped, BP taken and one bump measurement. Not been weighed since booking appt . Glad you're enjoying aquanatal, I'd have loved to do a class but couldn't find a local one, but am doing pregnancy yoga and exercise classes run by MWs at the hospital which are fun.

Mustbemadno3 Thanks for info on the form. Seeing MW next on 25th Feb and have set a reminder on my phone to make sure I don't forget to ask for one! Soo forgetful these days!

PanicMode · 05/02/2010 12:59

Welcome KaffaCakes - both to the thread and MN!

I did NCT classes with my first so started around 27 weeks and had about 6 sessions, including 2 with just the girls and a breastfeeding session. I am not sure how helpful the BF session was to be honest - we all felt very stupid pretending to BF a doll - I think seeing the bf counsellor afterwards when I was having problems was far more useful. Pretending to BF a doll and a real baby is somewhat different!

MW appointments tend to increase in the third trimester - unless you're an old timer like me when they seem to assume you know what you're doing and would be able to tell if things are different and so I've been asking my MW whether she wants to see me! I'm lucky that I have had the same MW all the way through, and she also saw me with my last baby, so she knows me quite well now.

Hope everyone else is well - I had a heart scan on Wednesday - and I AM going to have to have a canula and ABs in labour as it is hospital policy if you have a heart defect, even though the sonographer said he wouldn't have found it unless he had known it was there. So I think I am just going to do what I did with DC3 and leave it until I'm about to give birth in the car park of the hospital, stagger into the delivery suite, and have the baby 5 minutes (literally) after arriving, ergo no time for ABs or a canula!

Mouseplus1 · 05/02/2010 18:51

Hiya ladies,

got a letter from the government yesterday saying money will be going in the bank imminently. I make it just over two weeks since I sent it off. Hope you all hear something soon.Mouse.x

mustbemadno3 · 06/02/2010 18:42

kaffacakes welcome. My mw has left and I have seen 1 different one and now she has left. So really feel the care is crap!
I have joined a pregnancy pilates class and discovered that they do some fantastic courses. You have to pay so won't be doing the ante natal ones as too expensive and I don't think you should have to pay. But they do one for £10 for couple of hours. Plus after care with baby and baby massage.

Had 4d scan today it was amazing. Thought it might be freaky but really good. Got DVD and photos. My eldest ds couldn't make it as he was playing in a match so at least I can show him the DVD. Would really recommend it if anybody is half thinking about it.
Also had terrible pains last night so bad I had to go to bed with tablets. So scan was more important to check everything o.k, which it was although baby is very low down which is worrying me slightly. Know wonder I am waddling rather than walking.
