A few updates for your list Pie - Crazynow has had baby Jenson, and Gingerbabe has had a little girl. Bells2 and NQWWW despite being at one time or another quite prolific posters, have gone very quiet recently - so no idea still! Dannib, Wallythecat and Bagelpie only ever posted here one time each, so I guess we will never know....

pie · 01/10/2003 19:07

Oakmaiden, I saw Crazynow's soon after reposting the list. Did Gingerbabe post?

Anymore contractions for you??

Oakmaiden · 01/10/2003 19:14

Gingerbabe hs posted about breastfeeding her daughter, so I extrapolated from that that she must have been born by now!

No, nothing here. All quiet. sigh

bells2 · 02/10/2003 12:12

I am now 6 days past the due date and with no.2 having arrived bang on time, am very surprised. Midwives are insistent on induction on Day 11 and as DH has to return to work in around 2 weeks time leaving me on my own, while I'm very upset at the thought of not having my home birth, don't really think there's an alternative. Anyway, fingers crossed something happens of its own accord.

Oakmaiden · 02/10/2003 12:21

There is still time bells, don't worry too much!

By the way the midwives CANNOT insist that you have an induction at any time. It is ENTIRELY up to you whether or not you will accept induction, and in all honesty 11 days "overdue" is still within the "term" bracket. You baby is not really post dates until day 14 - and even then it may not be a problem for your baby. if you don't want to be induced you could insist on extra monitoring instead?

But hopefully baby will arrive over the next few days anyway.

pie · 02/10/2003 12:46

Bells, oakmaiden is right, you don't have to do anything you don't want. If you are getting a hard time about going over your dates and being induced then insist on scans, as they will be arguing its best for baby, so you can argue that you want to see that the baby isn't ok before agreeing to being induced, iykwim!!!

I got back a little while ago from my 38 week check. My induction is booked for next Wed, the 8th. I've had a sweep, my cervix is already soft, has come down (half post he said), I'm 1cm dialated, but I know that is nothing unusual as this is my second. Baby is 2/5ths engaged. Fingers crossed I won't make it to the inducement date. I had so many questions it took the poor man 1hr 15mins to answer them all!! He said he hadn't had to think so hard for ages!!

The sweep didn't hurt at all. Infact he started pulling off his gloves and I said "Is that it, are you sure you did it?"

Well I'm going to bed soon, feel really tired now. Watch me post about every twinge between now and Wednesday

Pie - do you have a midwife friend asking questions about materbirth following induction on your behalf on the ukmidwifery list? Because it really sounds like she is talking about someone identical to you!!! And I thought - aha, i think that is Pie!!!

Oakmaiden · 02/10/2003 19:07

Obviously for materbirth read "waterbirth".

pie · 02/10/2003 19:37

Yes Oakmaiden that is me!!! I do have a professional asking questions. I'm aiming to become an SPD legend on 'the circuit'

wiltshire · 02/10/2003 21:15

Sorry you haven;t had it yet. Well latest news from me is I had to go back to hosp as the midwife took out my stitch and that night I stood up and water & claret went south. My wound opened and I had to go back to hosp. It was yuk yuk yuk. Am having to take it very easy now, hence haven't been able to participate as much as I would like to on here. Everything takes so long as I am frightened that it will open again.

Oakmaiden · 02/10/2003 21:25

Oh, poor you Wiltshire. Very yucky, and such a pain for you too. Hope everything else is going OK.

bells2 · 03/10/2003 09:22

I just feel torn about what to do. Ds was induced and I found it to be a really horrid experience but as things stand, the days are ticking away before DH simply has to start his new job. If I get to day 14 or so, this will leave me on my own with three under 4 1/4 from around day 4 which does frighten me a bit. Am just so disappointed that he hasn't emerged yet and we all could have had a lovely 2 weeks together.

bells2 · 03/10/2003 09:23

And WIltshire, poor poor you - what a horrible thing to happen. All the best.

Oakmaiden · 03/10/2003 09:28

bells - doesn't your dh get paternity leave????

ANGELMOTHER · 03/10/2003 09:39

Bells you don't have to have an induction at all, no-one can make you do anything you don't want. They told me I "could" go to 41+6 before any talk of induction, so hold in there.
Don't give up on the idea of home birth either, it is truly wonderful and you have plenty of time. You get to be the boss in your own home which is worth it's weight in gold.
Pie good luck too, are you hoping to make it there naturally without induction too ?

pie · 03/10/2003 09:48

Bells, that sounds like such a difficult place to be. Whats the longest you've ever gone overdue? I'm guessing your DH's new employers won't be ready with the paternity leave so early in his career with them? Has he tried asking? I hope your little one arrives soon. xxxx

Angelmother, how are things going with your new Angel?

OF course I would hope not to be induced...but it what the hospital and I have agreed on. I will be 38+6 next wednesday. I'm finding it near impossible to move about, even to get to the toilet. The pain makes me cry out whenever I move. I just don't think I can make it to term, or over, without ending up in bed needing a bedpan, and I'm never going to start getting better until I have the baby. So, although not looking forward to being induced, I'm looking forward to being induced iykwim!

Oakmaiden · 03/10/2003 09:53

Oh, missed the fact it was a new job.

ANGELMOTHER · 03/10/2003 10:06

Oh Pie I'm sorry I forget (addled brain still not functioning yet), of course you want this over asap. We all get sick of being mimi-mammoths at the end but you really must of had enough by now.
Will the spd dissapear as soon as baby arrives or is it something which will still be there for a while after?

ummm....2 shows in 24 hours since sweep...will this baby EVER come out??????

Angelmother, it will take months before it feels normal, if ever, down there. Don't know how soon I'll be able to walk unassisted

motherinferior · 03/10/2003 19:51

Oh dear. love and hugs all round.

shellyk · 03/10/2003 21:44

Hi Everyone

It looks like many of the regular contributors to this thread have given birth. I am due on the 17th Oct and getting a bit anxious about the delivery. I moved house 3 weeks ago and there is loads to do so hopefully the baby won't come too early as its room isn't ready yet. Anyway good luck everyone.

From Shelly

Oakmaiden · 04/10/2003 19:34

Hm, no Pie today. Perhaps????

Me next, please!

pupuce · 04/10/2003 20:01

No Bells either !
But an Oakmaiden
Mind you some have been posting 4 hours before they had their baby !!!

Oakmaiden · 04/10/2003 20:21

A very fed up Oakmaiden who has been having painful contractions at regularish (although well spaced) intervals for the past 3 days. And is getting really fed up of being constantly on tenterhooks. I really wouldn't mind waiting another week or 2, if only my body didn't keep trying to make me think that "today COULD be the day." Aaaaaaaaaargh. And sulk.
