@Moominmamato3 I’m pleased you’ve been able to get a scan booked in for today, praying it is all okay for you. Let us know got you get on

@avocadotoast11 I’m so sorry you’ve not had the best experience in NHS or private care. Unfortunately I do not have any advice for you. You may feel a little different after your booking appointment and you get your next appointment scheduled.
I personally have been paying for private scans for reassurance whilst I wait for my dating scan on 27th May. I have had 3 previous losses so have been extremely anxious.

howluckyarewe · Today 07:15

@Moominmamato3 I'm so sorry to hear that, and if you need to chat while you wait we're here.

@avocadotoast11 I'm actually ROI not England but the HSE & NHS are very similar. The outcomes for baby & mother are statistically good here, but no matter what obstetric care you opt in too it tends towards dismissive + intervention heavy. Unless you have a high risk pregnancy midwife led care tends to be a much nicer experience.

NewAgeDawning · Today 08:22

@avocadotoast11it really depends on who you get. You'd think paying would get you better treatment but im not sure if that is the case. Do get used to hearing a lot of opinion on what you can and cant do from maternity providers. Your best bet is to arm yourself with all the evidence based knowledge and advocating for yourself. The best thing I did in my first pregnancy was to hire a doula, I had a blissful time. Decide what you want for your birth and be prepared to work for it because its not guaranteed to be given to you.

Ladies, are we ready for a WhatsApp group? I often read your messages and sometimes I write responses that I have a hard time sending. What do we think? Xx

Cheesecake93 · Today 08:42

Hi ladies
I believe I am roughly 8 weeks if I go by my last period but am unsure if my dates are correct (my last period was a very light bleed). I have my booking appointment next week but I’m not sure whether to get a private scan to see how far along I am. What do you guys think?

Niftymum88 · Today 08:45

Early reassurance scan scan booked for lunchtime today, followed by booking appointment this afternoon.
decided to book it this morning for today so I wasn’t an anxious mess on the lead up to the scan. I’m just an anxious mess until 12.40 🙈

rach971 · Today 09:13

As if I wasn't anxious enough about the first trimester and my scan tomorrow, I saw a lone magpie this morning 🙄 I'm not even superstitious normally but today is not the day for things like that 😂 Apparently if you greet the lone magpie it avoids bad luck but I didn't know that til after 🤦‍♀️

rach971 · Today 09:16

Good luck for today @Niftymum88

I would be up for that 😊

rach971 · Today 13:42

Waited over 40 mins for my booking appointment and no one turned up, guess they forgot me :/

NewAgeDawning · Today 13:45

@rach971thats crazy. Are you still there and did you ask reception?

rach971 · Today 13:51

@NewAgeDawning Yeah they tried phoning them but no answer (community midwives office so there's often no one there as they're all out on their jobs). I've tried phoning multiple times. We just left and I'm back home now. I know there's usually someone in the office after 3 so I'm hoping I get through to them today. I'm really upset. This happened at one of my appointments when I was pregnant with my youngest too

avocadotoast11 · Today 13:52

Thanks for the responses :)

It does seem like I need to be my own advocate, I still have some hope for meeting a reasonable doctor so I dont need to Google and triple check everything I am told or hear, but let’s see.

@Ncl31 I’m really sorry for your losses, it sounds so hard to go through let alone repeatedly :( I’m wishing you this time everything goes well and ends with a healthy mum and healthy baby!!

@NewAgeDawning i had not considered a doula, did you find yours useful through l the pregnancy or only at birth? I should probably look into a private midwife option - I am not sure if it exists, but finding a single midwife to track the pregnancy and to give birth with sounds ideal.

@rach971 this is so bad from them! I hope they reschedule you ASAP

Growingaseed · Today 14:33

I had been thinking you were all quiet and just found the new thread!

I had my first actual morning sickness today, feel like it was a right of passage. I'm 10 weeks so have been so lucky to mostly have nausea in the evenings.

Opened the fridge this morning and the smell was enough to get me

rach971 · Today 14:36

Finally got through to them. They don't know what's happened, they said they've had some staff sickness and it must have just got all muddled up somehow. So I've got to go back a week today, same time same place. I don't know if I hold out much hope for them turning up but anyway. I'll be 11 weeks by then

I almost had this!! We waited 50 mins and went back to reception and they had a random excuse and sent someone down eventually.

PhoenixSTL · Today 14:51

@rach971 I'm fuming for you, but glad you at least got through to someone. I can't believe they're making you wait another week. I thought they tried to get the booking appointment done by week 10? I also didn't get my scan appointment through until I had had my booking appointment

NewAgeDawning · Today 14:57

@rach971i was 5 minutes late to mine and the first thing the midwife did was scold me for it. How rich! Im sorry, they really ought to see you ASAP for your booking bloods

Niftymum88 · Today 15:16

scan done, booking appointment done.

i cried, as soon as I saw that heartbeat 🥲
measuring a few days ahead, so 8 weeks tomorrow instead of Friday. And due 23rd dec.

rach971 · Today 15:17

@KelpieTheFirst It's so bad. I got a proper NHS letter with the date and time etc, but I get the feeling all their diaries are paper rather than computer based

@PhoenixSTL I did say to her on the phone I'm 10 weeks today and she said it's fine, as long as it's done before your dating scan. But as you said, the dating scan appointment isn't given til the booking appointment, so of course it'll be done before the scan 🙄

@NewAgeDawning At least they seem efficient in your area 😅

NewAgeDawning · Today 15:17

@Niftymum88fantastic, congratulations 🎊

rach971 · Today 15:18

@Niftymum88 So pleased it went well!

NewAgeDawning · Today 15:20

@rach971no, theyre not. I am due for a nipt through the r445 pathway and theyve messed that up at every chance. Im being v vocal so hopefully itll get sorted out but its a shame it has to be that way

Ncl31 · Today 15:22

@Niftymum88 so pleased everything went well.

I’ve booked a reassurance scan for this evening to try and settle my anxiety. I’ve felt completely normal today and not even ready for my afternoon nap as usual.
I know from about 9-12 weeks the placenta takes over which is when symptoms can settle but I can’t help but worry. Especially when we lost at 10 weeks last time :(

PhoenixSTL · Today 15:42

@Ncl31 sending hugs, it's been such an anxious few weeks.

Slightly random symptom spotting, but is anyone else's abdomen starting to feel a bit firmer? I swear that it's gotten a lot firmer today. But still no visible bump. Only 10+4 right now.
