I’m 37 and this is my second baby, I have a son who’ll be 2 next month.

@sabretoothtigger @DragonflyRuby @Lulubelle92 - thank you for thinking of me! Sorry if I missed anyone.

Good news at my EPU scan today, I’m around 6 weeks and baby had a heartbeat. They said everything is as expected. No clear cause of bleeding (which has now stopped) but I do have a cervical ectropion so it could be that. I also have the EPU number and can now self refer now I’ve been seen by them so that’s a relief too. It’s been a hard few days waiting for the scan (and the clinic today ran late which was excruciating). I’m over the moon everything is OK. I hope everyone else is doing well too x

@Emelene the BEST news, so pleased for you.

Glad I’ve found you guys! I’m expecting my 1st baby (providing all goes okay of course) and I’m 5+2. Looking forward to sharing this journey with you all if I may, as well as hearing updates on all of you. I won’t lie I’m terrified. I work a very active and physical job and I’m a bit worried about telling them as I’m also still in my 6 month probation period. According to our staff handbook I can work up to 11 weeks before due date (Aug 5th) but I have no idea how I will be able to do that in this job! Anyone have any similar worries or advice? Xxxx

DragonflyRuby · 04/12/2024 13:11

@Emelene That is brilliant news, so pleased for you!! And how lovely to have seen the teeeeeeny baby already!

Coco1oco · 04/12/2024 13:18

@AliceLucy94 hi and congrats on your news. My advice would be honest with them when the time is right. Try not to worry about probation, it should not impact it due to Maternity discrimination. I am due to start my me job in Jan after them waiting for me to do 3 months notice so also less than ideal! If all is okay I'm planning on telling them after my booking scan. From what I've read on other threads most people's employers are pleased for them. It's a situation that comes up everywhere and they'll be used to it. Can't speak for the active side of things as my role is office based, maybe someone else can help with that?

@Emelene what a lovely update, I bet you were chuffed to see the little one!

TheCoralFish · 04/12/2024 13:21

@LolaJ87 oh that’s interesting that it’s standard in Ireland to get your first appointment at that point. I guess it’s different all over the world so probably no reason for me to be stressing, it’s just that on the website for maternity services it says that the booking appointment should be between 8-10 weeks and then scan 12- 14. So the scan will be on time for me but the booking appointment only 5 days before it. Yes I’ve booked a private scan for just before Christmas so at least I’ve got that to look forward to. What companies have folks booked private scans with, and what gestation for ? I had no idea so booked for 8wk1day as thought good chance of seeing a heartbeat by then perhaps and then feel better telling people over Christmas as I know there no way I’d be able to hide it with meals out / gatherings etc planned with friends that know me too well to believe I’m doing dry December with no soft cheese consumption .. 😵‍💫 feeling a bit stressed about telling people that early but can’t see any way around it apart from cancelling all December plans ..

sabretoothtigger · 04/12/2024 13:30

@Emelene that's absolutely wonderful news! So thrilled for you. And how lovely to have a picture of the little one already 💖

Coco1oco · 04/12/2024 13:40

@TheCoralFish I booked an early scan with a local business and will be 7+5 on 23rd, couldn't do xmas eve as have to go into the office. Would have rather waited to 8th week but like yourself Christmas has thrown a spanner in the works. We are only telling close family at Christmas then will tell the rest and friends etc after our booking appt with the first scan which here in NI is around 12 weeks. It feels an eternity away, I don't know how they did it back in the day!

TheCoralFish · 04/12/2024 14:15

Hi @Coco1oco so interested how it’s totally different just depending where you live. The postcode lottery of the NHS I suppose. I’m really sympathetic to stretched services and overworked healthcare professionals but it just makes me a bit nervous about the maternity services in my area being stretched / over capacity at the moment in general and how that might impact me but I’m potentially catastrophising! It’s funny with the early scans I seemed to get different answers from different providers as to what gestation to book for etc. I also saw some providers saying that early scans are all done by transvaginal ultrasound and others saying they won’t perform those as they only think that’s appropriate in a hospital environment so I’m a bit confused about it all really .. yes I know I wonder if people were more / less anxious in times gone by. I suppose they didn’t have google to stress themselves out with - but also not to check things / reassure themselves.

PenguinOnTheMoon · 04/12/2024 14:36

I've still not had any update on my booking appointment either (7 weeks tomorrow based on LMP, expecting to be higher risk). With the fact we're away overseas over Christmas I suspect it might well be into the New Year now, so at 11 weeks or later. Tad sad at this but not much we can do but wait. Not sure if worth a chase next week to see if they have me on a list or to just sit it out.

On the positive news side, I got my Clear Blue digital '3 weeks plus' when I tested today, so fingers crossed all's well in there despite only mild symptoms!

I've booked a private scan for when I'm 8w 6d (based on LMP), but I'll actually be more like 7w 4d I think. Hopefully late enough to get a good heartbeat showing, and just in time to get a decent photo to share with the family over Christmas.

katcha87 · 04/12/2024 14:58

Hi @PenguinOnTheMoon just wondering how far along you are at the moment? I think I am 6w ish but just did a clear blue and has me at 2-3 weeks pregnant, I would have expected it to be 3+ weeks. I also have had no real symptoms the past few days. I did have terrible heart burn and boob pain both of which have stopped.
Any one any ideas? I'm in my head about it now and worrying!!

@katcha87

Hi!

I'm 6+6 today if you go on LMP, but my cycles are longer than 28 days (and vary by a week or so too). But based on my LH strips I was using for ovulation tracking I'm probably about 5+4 today.

I might well have got my 3 weeks plus earlier, but I was waiting at least a week from my 2-3 weeks test results, so I didn't have to buy any more as they're so expensive!

I've read they're not that accurate tests that said, and some people never get a 3+, so I'd not get too hung up on it if you don't get this. Apparently the HCG range they look at is strange values, but I've not looking into this, just read a comment on here.

Remember it's from conception, and not from your period the CB digital is showing also, so if you ovulated a bit late it could still be ok on that date range too.

PenguinOnTheMoon · 04/12/2024 16:27

Oh and on the boob pain...

Mine's fluctuating loads too, hour to hour even. Tonight my boobs are tender and covered in blue veins which looks a bit odd. But I think it's just because we're increasing the amount of blood in our system.

This is my first pregnancy, so no idea if it's normal or not, but I'm sure symptoms coming and going must be fine given how many threads there are on it! I'd try and relax and enjoy the symptom free days while you still can!

Also my first pregnancy and the blue veins were a shock to me! I'm in the same boat. Just on and off heartburn and boob pain!

I keep telling my husband it feels like my left boob is being stretched and torn/twisted like you would tear a garlic bread 😂. After a while I got up and looked in the mirror and saw the blue veins and I swear the start of a few stretch marks 😫. I'm getting odd heart flutters occasionally too, but it's not lasting long. Will probably mention if I ever get a booking appointment...

Lulubelle92 · 04/12/2024 17:44

So so pleased for you @Emelene! Does it feel more real now that you’ve seen baby and heard a heartbeat? I still can’t quite believe I’m pregnant, it has always been something that happens to other people, not me!

Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly for you from here. You must be exhausted after today x

I just got my booking appointment for 7th January today, when I’ll be either 9 or 10 weeks, since I’m not sure if I’m 4 or 5 today. I also have a private scan on 30th December (8 or 9 weeks) which seems quite late but the private scan person said that since I have longer and variable cycles she would recommend waiting until then. I’ve only had four cycles off the pill including this one so I’m not entirely sure what’s normal for me, but I’m also worried about waiting so long for both of these. But then they do do this all day every day, so hopefully they see enough small variability in these dates for it not to matter too much or they would advise us otherwise. That’s what I’m telling myself!

Attheyard · 04/12/2024 18:09

@Ssazmum I’m glad to see another dog runner here! I think I’m going to do the same and just be careful. My dog is too active to not have decent exercise and I will also go crazy! I’m also going to try and walk 6+ miles daily, which in summer is easy peasy but I’m lazy in winter. No more!

TinkRose · 04/12/2024 18:27

Had my repeat bloods today but won’t have the results until tomorrow morning. I’ve not had much spotting today so I feel a bit better. I’m really tired, but that could just be work tired rather than baby!

@Emelene what a lovely update, I bet you were chuffed to see the little one!

@Coco1oco thank you! That’s made me feel a bit better tbh as I was thinking surely not many people would get pregnant so early into a new job but here we both are! Yes my job also waited for months for me to finish my previous job so I guess I felt I owed it to them. But I really want to be a mum and I don’t want to let my job overrule that. I also need to work these 26 weeks to get SMP 😫

I work at a dog shelter so I’m cleaning most of the day and walking about half a marathon each day too!

xx

Coco1oco · 04/12/2024 19:19

@AliceLucy94 let me know how you get on when you tell them! I don't think I'll get SMP as I wont have been there long enough so will have to start saving up now as that first 6 weeks is going to be a bit of a hit.

Aww the doggies might pick up on it from what I've read some can be sensitive to hormones.

sabretoothtigger · 04/12/2024 19:40

My little dog is stuck to me like glue, so definitely senses the hormone change.

LolaJ87 · 04/12/2024 19:44

Yeah my dog knew the first time I got pregnant before I did, became extra clingy and put her head in my lap a lot. I think they can smell the change in hormones or something. She’s been doing the same again this time! She’s a rescue and an old lady, I’m glad she’s still by my side this time around.

OP posts:
Tadpolecat · 04/12/2024 21:09

I have a very clingy cat at the moment too! (he's a Ragdoll.. they are known as the 'puppy cats' of the cat world as they're more like dogs in nature). After my son was born he was very close with us, wanted to be cuddled up with us all the time. His brother is more like a typical cat.. not fussed, and more fearful of my son😄

JW24M · 04/12/2024 23:35

Heeey everyone. So sorry for lack of posting! I’ve been ever so tired and trying to manage my day job & an event at the same time has really taken its toll on me physically, mentally and emotionally - I cried twice yesterday 😂😂😂
5 weeks tomorrow! ❤️❤️❤️ been doing hcg cheapies an the lines got stronger and stronger til it looked the same as 4 wks 5 days.
I’ve had really bad cramps most evenings since finding out. It feels like period pain, but without the intensity changing during it, just like a long ache for about 10 mins then it goes. But man is it like keel over a bit sore. I was super worried to begin with as it felt like it was left side only, but had no blood, nothing else bar sore boobs and a nasty cough/cold… it feels like it’s all over now which is more re-assuring. No sign of nausea or sickness yet… praying I could be one of the lucky gals who doesn’t get it but not naive to think 5 weeks is just a little too early lol.
Booked a private scan for 8 weeks 2 days just to be on the safe side.
Hope everyone else is OK? Xx
