Thanks for the new thread @luckyfaith 😊 .

@TripleESept24 don't be hard on yourself, this journey is hard enough. I've read about so many people who have gone through the same as you, its very common. There's only so much you can do before you drive yourself to insanity.

Remember, Fed is best. Happy mum, happy baby! And that is much more important than breastfeeding. Take care of yourself 💖

Thanks for the new thread @luckyfaith

@kc92 you are so right in what you said to TripleE, (can’t tag you for some reason?) but you’ve been through so much!!!

Also remember that pumping isn’t necessarily a match for BF output wise. Some women don’t get any milk on pumps at all yet still have loads for their baby due to the physiological affects of bf. Could you do a weighted feed? So weight Esme, then feed her, then weigh her again and you’ll see roughly how many oz she’s getting. It’s so much, have your support network helped? Do you have a LC you can reach out to for advice?

I’m hanging in there. My little one is still so unsettled at night it’s very hard. Last night she did around 5h in the cot we are thrilled but other times then she flat out refuses. She also has “witching hour” from 7-12 most nights and it’s hell!!! I’m gonna run to the pharmacy today and get Infacol for her to see if it helps as I think wind is def an issue for her

FuppinNora · 16/10/2024 17:50

Thanks @luckyfaith ☺️ great to have new thread

Have DS on comfort formula since last week and he appears more settled every day. Still up in my arms sleeping for daytime naps until about 6pm and then seems to relax and sleeps in buggy or cot. I can't figure it out! I've tried everything. At least it is day time anyway. Hopefully working on right direction.

I'm trying to get out more and managed a few shops today and he slept in buggy - which he hasn't done before when I've gone into shops, he usually kicks off.

Can't believe he is 7 weeks, time is flying.

@PinkWatermelon88 Wow 5 hours! Straight? That sounds amazing.

kc92 · 16/10/2024 20:30

Is anyone else's baby super witchy tonight? Not to sound like a total hippy but is it the full moon? 😅

Mine is normally a fantastic sleeper (sorry for admitting it) but he's been clingier than a koala today. Just relieved he's feeling better as his cold had me a ball of nerves yesterday!!

PinkWatermelon88 · 16/10/2024 20:50

@FuppinNora i know I kept waking thinking she was crying but nope, happy snoozing!!!!

Ive thought she may have colic (which I know isn’t actually a thing only a cluster of symptoms but it’s the easier word to use right now!) and so today I got Colief in the pharmacy and it knocked her out!!!! No witching hour (or 4!!!) can’t believe it!!! It’s not even 9pm I know but she’s the most settled she’s been in weeks.

FuppinNora · 16/10/2024 22:24

@kc92 how dare you have a good sleeping baby 🤣 you lucky duck. How old is your baby. - might be coming up to a growth spurt.

@PinkWatermelon88 I used colief also and saw an immediate change in baby also which is why I changed to comfort formula. It apparently takes about 3 weeks for the milk protein to leave their body.

kc92 · 16/10/2024 22:48

@FuppinNora I feel guilty for thinking this but he feels like my reward baby for how difficult the first year was with his big brother. 🙈 Absolutely loved my first experience of motherhood but Jesus it was hard. We're still up every 2-3 hours at night but he usually does a long stretch to start, and will go down in his own cot happily, so sleeping well in between for the most part.

Think you're right about the growth spurt though! He's 5 & a 1/2 weeks now. His brother cut his first teeth just before he turned 3 months so really hoping we don't have another early teether either.

PinkWatermelon88 · 16/10/2024 22:59

I spoke too soon she’s been screaming from 9:30-11. My partner just took her. It’s hard to give colief when breastfeeding but I’m gonna have to figure out how cos I think it def helped her for those earlier feeds. 3 weeks that’s super interesting!! I’m gonna cut dairy and see how that goes too. This newborn stage eh 😂😭

FuppinNora · 17/10/2024 07:19

@kc92 full moon mania hit here last night, one of the worst nights I've had with him, he just wouldn't settle seemed to have pain pulling his legs up - usually sleeps from bottle to bottle. He is gone asleep now just as I have to get up to get his brother off to school

TripleESept24 · 17/10/2024 11:10

@kc92 @BeautyAndTheBump1 @PinkWatermelon88 just catching up..... Thanks for all of your kind words.

I have tried different flanges. Makes no difference to output but my nipples are large and we're literally filling the whole flange touching the sides!! So I have a 27mm flange now where I don't seem to fill the entire thing..... Every pump/flange I've tried output is so minimal, feels exhausting and then pointless as it's hardly a mouthful/worth feeding her.

I feel like she does get more actually from my breast. Sometimes she has milky chops when she comes off the nipple so I know she's getting something.

I know that I am trying absolutely everything, and I will continue to put her on my breast even if it is more or a bonding/comfort thing.

I need some advice on formula feeding..... Since we got put on the formula plan in hospital, we started with the aptamil starter packs 70ml disposable bottles with disposable teats (hospital sent us home with and then we bought a few packs for ease and to see how she got on) we now have the ready to feed bottles 200ml (aptamil) she's still on 70ml and we put it in the fridge and has to be used within 24 hours which is fine.

Yesterday I bought actual formula powder to make up. Do you have to make every bottle fresh?? Or can you have feeds prepared and in the fridge? It mentions on labels for feeds to be used within 2 hours but I'm sure with my daughter 20 years ago I used to prep the days bottles? So confused and didn't expect this just expected to be happily breastfeeding 🥺😣

Baby girl was finally registered yesterday we had our first afternoon out in town! She was good as gold

@PinkWatermelon88 sounds like very intense witching hours! Hopefully cutting dairy will make a difference. 🤞🏻 Though I wouldn't last without chocolate getting me through the evening feeds!

@FuppinNora glad I wasn't the only one with a witchy baby last night. Such a dose when they go to sleep just when you have to get up.

@TripleESept24 what a cutie!!! And a good reminder I still haven't registered the birth. 😅

FuppinNora · 17/10/2024 12:09

@TripleESept24 advice I got was you can make them up and store in fridge, not fridge door. They need to be used within 24 hours. 4 hours out of fridge and 2 hours if they have drank from bottle.
As long as it is made with boiled water that is cooled for approx 30 mins to kill the bacteria.

I give the bottle at room temp so I don't need to heat it, I just take it out about half hour before feed due - my DS is every 3 hours to the minute no stretching out here! Then bring a bottle with me to bed and once he has drank that get the next.

They say ideally ro make fresh but not sure who has time for that!

WinsandSam · 17/10/2024 17:23

@TripleESept24 I've just started using a silicone milk collector like the Hakka. You suction it on when she's feeding. Might be worth a try rather than a pump?! I managed to get 50ml just in one sitting. Could be unhelpful advice but thought I'd suggest. Gorgeous pictures of a beautiful girl 💕

@FuppinNora that ms how Ruby is! Seems in lots of pain. I've been giving dentinox (less than advised) and it does seem to help. Well she goes to sleep after I've given it so must be in less pain.

Demi55 · 17/10/2024 20:16

@TripleESept24 Hi, just catching up, I had a real hard time trying to breastfeed and it just didn’t work, just wanted to reassure you that Violet has absolutely taken to bottle feeding and I kicked myself for about 2 weeks as I felt like I failed her but now I’ve realised it’s for the best as we were both getting really stressed trying to breastfeed.

We make each bottle up fresh and empty after 2 hours if she hasn’t had anymore of it.

FuppinNora · 17/10/2024 20:23

@WinsAndSam is that the same as Infacol? I wa giving him Infacol but it actually made him worse - he never had issue with getting the wind up but he just constantly seems to have it. Infacol stopped him burping.

I think someone mentioned on here a microwave heat pad so I bought one today, I'm going to try it out tomorrow and see does that help him settle on his own.
He has been asleep since 4.30pm, he is exhausted, he even slept when I was washing his hair and woke briefly for bottle and nappy. I hope the night is OK 😬

WinsandSam · 17/10/2024 20:51

@FuppinNora I'm not sure ingredients wise. We have got infacol too but haven't tried it as didn't hear great things about it. The detinox is given after feeding and usually gets her burping quickly.

Ruby has been asleep since 5:30 and I'm scared for the night now!! Praying for a peaceful one 😳 partner is back to work tomorrow at 6am so can guarantee she'll be a monkey during the night

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 18/10/2024 01:30

Thank you for the new thread! 7 weeks here and we are at peak colic/fussiness in the evening. It's like a switch goes off and he's totally inconsolable. PLUS a fun development - he ONLY wants ME. No one else can hold him. He also gives me big (gas related) smiles. Very sweet and so annoying 🙄 especially in the evening when I'm shattered and DH is meant to give me a break!

Oh, and he BITES now and plays with my nipples. They're very sore.

I want to try infacol for the gas but I read it's really bad for reflux- and we have quite a bit of reflux.

kc92 · 18/10/2024 10:40

It sounds like every ones baby is going through a fussy patch - not going to lie that makes me feel better. 🤣 How was everyone's night sleep?

Mine is still smothered with a cold and even when he's sleeping I can't relax from checking on him constantly. Thankful that he's big enough for Calpol & that he doesn't mind the saline spray.

@HuggingAnIcePack887 when do they start smiling for real do you think? I'm deluding myself that the ones I'm getting aren't gas related.

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 18/10/2024 13:42

@kc92 I think a couple of the smiles he's thrown me are real. Baby reacts to me in a way he doesn't to other people.

My baby slept 5.5 hours. But he cried inconsolably for 3 hours before that so 1) i couldn't fall asleep right away as I was WIRED and 2) he was squirming and grunting for the last hour and even earplugs don't drown that out. And it's not like I can go back to sleep at 6am when he's ready to go down again.

I really thought at almost 8 weeks we would have this down but I actually got more sleep when he was 4-6 weeks old than now.

I'm fine in the day time but come night time, I question all my life choices.

FuppinNora · 18/10/2024 14:43

@kc92 hopefully your little one will start to clear up and you get a bit of rest. Night went generally well considering he has in a deep sleep between bottles since 4.30pm yesterday. Awake and ready to party at 5.30am though (woke at 12.30 and 3.30am for his bottle).

I've made a plan today to get the big naps in this morning hoping he will be awake a bit more this evening before bed.
I think I'm going crazy buying and trying new things to get the sleep and wind sorted😅llike you @HuggingAnIcePack887 I thought we would be on the better side of things now. Week 4 threw us and we haven't managed to claw back control 🙃

I think I have been def getting smiles for about 2 weeks now as it is when I'm speaking to him or when he is kicking on the playmat. So take the smiles as official you deserve them.

Hope you all had a good night! @WinsAndSam hope your first day on your own went well!

kc92 · 18/10/2024 20:38

@HuggingAnIcePack887 & @FuppinNora really looking forward to when we get to sleep past 6am again. I find it so hard to fall back asleep after the last early early morning feed too.

@FuppinNora how did your nap plan go? 🤞🏻

Hoping we all find our groove again soon! The hormone dip around week 6 is kicking me a little bit right now so about to go soak in a bath with a box of chocolates and hope my DS sleeps through.
