@kc92 have had a lot going on. I'm mentally and physically exhausted and struggling. I just want to see a light at the end of the tunnel but struggling right now, I was going to go back to work quite quickly but honestly can't see how ill be able to the way I'm feeling

Decaffe · 29/10/2024 19:09

What does everyone’s evening routine look like? I think we are taking six week old DS up to our bedroom too late of an evening, but DH thinks the time of day doesn’t really affect DS. I think the quality of evening sleep he’d get flat on our bed is better than he’s getting in our arms on the sofa.

I’d love to know what your evening schedules look like, even more so if you co-sleep too (that’s right he still won’t go down in anything!).

PinkWatermelon88 · 29/10/2024 19:45

Oh no @kc92 I do not envy you…. I remember those days so clearly!! Truth be told I think it was an age thing. They say sleep is developmental not behavioural I think it’s true… she was just ready. She has a hot water bottle (a cow from primark/penneys) that she snuggles and often times my partner sleeps in with her. No real routine though, I really want to establish one with this baba!!

kc92 · 30/10/2024 03:29

@TripleESept24 I'm so sorry to hear that. You've had so much going on I can only imagine the recovery is rough. Definitely push back your return to work if you can, give more time for emotional & physical healing. 🩷 Have been there with a shitty postpartum before, so know it can be totally overwhelming.

@Decaffe we kind of play it by ear depending on who's more tired in our house. Toddler goes to bed for 8, baby witches in one of our arms while the other one puts him down, and then after I top him up with a feed and he gets 1-2oz in a bottle around 21.30 to keep him used to it. I finish feeding him if he's still hungry, then run off to bed and leave my husband dealing with the rest of witching hour if baby hasn't settled by then. He usually drops him up when he falls asleep or if he's staying up late he'll keep him in the sling. Baby sleeps so well on those nights - this is our first wake up - so I love when DH plans to play video games these days. 😂 We don't co-sleep at the start of the night though.

@PinkWatermelon88 immediately planning to go to Penney's this week to buy a hot water bottle! I do think it's developmental too but I'll still try anything. We're dividing and conquering with the kiddos at night time at the moment and I'd love to get my bed back. We moved a few weeks ago and I've slept in our lovely new super king exactly 3 times.

lemonsherbert86 · 30/10/2024 05:11

@decaffe I'll go upstairs with our 6week old at about 8-8:15pm and give her a bath and get myself ready for bed at the same time.
Then I'll give her last feed in bed. She's usually asleep by 9-9:30 at the moment but due to reflux I am holding her upright until 10-10:30 before I put her down.
I'm trying to remember when we started doing an earlier bedtime with my first because I'd love to get some of my evening back!
What time are you taking yours up?

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 30/10/2024 08:07

My girl is 5 weeks old and her days are still very inconsistent there is no pattern at the moment.

I like to try and take her upstairs at 9:45 and give her 'last bottle' and get her down for the night by 10:30 but it all depends how much she's slept in the day!
Yesterday she slept most of the day, didnt have much awake time at all, then was doing typical witching all evening, she fell asleep at 10:40 but then she woke back up at 11 until 12

The evening before she'd been awake for much longer periods throughout the day, and by 9:45 she was zonked out in the moses basket and didn't wake until 3:30 for a feed. It felt glorious.

The thing is when she's asleep in the day, there is no waking her. She will sleep through a hurricane. I can pick her up and sit her up on my knee and she'll still just stay asleep. Or if I change her nappy she'll wake up, but then start crying and immediately need comfort (dummy/milk/rocking) cus she wants to go back to sleep.

I tell myself this won't last forever, just gotta ride the newborn wave and wait for a routine to settle in!

PinkWatermelon88 · 30/10/2024 09:29

@kc92 i really hope it works for you gal!! Nothing worse than trying to juggle two at the same time with little to no sleep. It’s hard! Is your oldest one in creche do you get a break in the day? Ive the two of them at home with me… I’ll be grey before Christmas 😂

kc92 · 30/10/2024 12:05

@PinkWatermelon88 he goes to creche for 20 hours a week, mostly so we didn't lose our spot for when I have to go back to work next year. Do not know how you're doing it full time with two tbh!! I have both home today and we've already gone for a picnic, to the playground, to the coffee shop, to the barbers and to the grocery shop for a yoghurt pouch because he is a whirlwind of a child and it's easier to just keep moving with him. 😂 Just stuck the TV on for 20min of peace.

@BeautyAndTheBump1 same here - mine will not wake unless he wants to be awake. Or if I'm trying to creep out of bed for the bathroom in the middle of the night suddenly he's sensitive to noise. 🫠

PinkWatermelon88 · 30/10/2024 15:59

Haha @kc92 I'm pretty sure Bluey is the third parent in this house right now! We do what we gotta do to survive. Small lady has been sleeping A BIT the last few nights I'm just thrilled. Hope everyone is getting a bit of rest x

WinsandSam · 30/10/2024 16:21

@Decaffe we go up anytime between 8:30-11pm. She goes to bed when I do. She's usually already asleep on me or partner and we take her up and put her in her cot. I usually get her in our bed during the night and cosleep as I'm too tired to battle the cot.

@TripleESept24 you've had such a tough time and I really hope you can see the light soon. I'm hopeful it'll get better for you soon 🫶🏼 this is bloody tough!

PinkWatermelon88 · 30/10/2024 17:22

@WinsandSam im so glad to read you’re also Co sleeping! It’s the only thing saving us!!! Mine hates the cot and up to today wouldn’t be put down anywhere for a nap but I’ve her down on the sofa here and I’m on cloud 9!!

WinsandSam · 30/10/2024 17:59

@PinkWatermelon88 I feel so much more relaxed knowing she can sleep in our bed. Less pressure. I don't sleep as well but she can do 4hr stings co sleeping 🙌🏻 I just worry about squishing her

PinkWatermelon88 · 30/10/2024 20:02

Yeah I hear you @WinsandSam - its so nervy. We did it with #1 too and it was totally fine and safe. But the worry is always there! Does your smallie last long in the cot? I’m gonna keep trying!

WinsandSam · 30/10/2024 20:05

@PinkWatermelon88 it really varies, some days she will again sleep 3-4hrs in it. Others 1hr or not at all. So unpredictable
Have never tried putting her in for naps. They're always contact/carrier or occasionally moses basket

FuppinNora · 30/10/2024 23:04

@Decaffe I'm putting my ds up around 7/730 he usually has bottle about 6. He completely sparks out though. Bring monitor downstairs with me, I'm in bed by 9ish anyway and ready for next bottle around 10.30. I found tv and chat was disturbing him downstairs. I don't do bath every night as I won't have time when go back to work so I do lullabies on Spotify which will eventually be a storybook.

I put the sensory dots on, on YouTube it calmed ds right away this evening during witching hours! Poor little baby has his 2 month injections tomorrow, I imagine I'll need it lots tomorrow!
Great that sleep is improving for some of you

PinkWatermelon88 · 30/10/2024 23:11

How can it be two months already @FuppinNora oh my gosh that flew!!!! Good luck… Hope the smallie sails them and that there’s equal amounts of calpol and chocolate/coffee in the house ❤️

PinkWatermelon88 · 30/10/2024 23:12

@WinsandSam any time is a win I reckon - lets hope as they mature they get more used to it 🤞

FuppinNora · 01/11/2024 14:57

Hope you are all getting on OK 😀
We have had the 6 week check up and the jabs (they do both at same time in my clinic). The check up was more traumatic - he didn't like being undressed and the hips being checked. All is ok anyway which is main thing.

He has been very tired since injection and wants to be cuddled all the time but that's ok! They put an awful lot into their little bodies, he had 7 different vaccines in 3 injections and oral drops.

FuppinNora · 01/11/2024 17:41

Also, does anyone know if Next will exchange baby clothes sizes without receipts? Just going through his 3-6 months and not a hope he will get to wear them all. Dunnes in Ireland are very good for exchange for baby clothes if anyone is based in Ireland.

PinkWatermelon88 · 01/11/2024 18:11

Yea @FuppinNora i exchanged lots last weeks in Next no hassle and no receipt! Dunnes and Tesco are great but Penneys are awful! I didn’t realise you could get the jabs in ROI at 6 weeks?! I’m booked in for our 6w check next week and jabs 2 weeks after that. Can your smallie have calpol? The poor mite.

id a feeling something was up with my stitches and so I snuck a peak at my stitches yesterday and I’ve 4 holes instead of 3!!!!! Knew something was wrong 😭 hope it’s an easy fix 🙈

kc92 · 01/11/2024 19:31

@FuppinNora that's brilliant to know! Do Dunnes allow returns / exchanges without receipts too? My boy is already in 3-6 months and a lot of the stuff gifted for him will be the wrong season or outgrown too soon. 🙈

@PinkWatermelon88 ahhhh that sounds rough!! Potentially TMI - I don't know if my stitches had gaps the first time around (I didn't look for 3 months out of fear) but they took ages to heal and it was not aesthetically pleasing when I finally did peek. Baby #2 caused a tear along the same line, and maybe hopeful thinking, but I feel it was stitched up and healed so much better. So your easy fix might be baby #3! 😂

PinkWatermelon88 · 01/11/2024 19:57

@kc92 dunnes are brilliant without receipt but they’ll only give you the current price! With my first it was the shift of seasons and I returned hundreds worth of clothes for about €50 exchange value as they’d all gone on special 🙈

And I’d LOVE #3 but my partner is traumatised by colic babies who don’t sleep haha. My first epis was absolutely horrendous healing and I thought I was doing brilliant this time but seems not! Will know more next week 🙈🙃

FuppinNora · 01/11/2024 21:44

Brilliant about Next! Yes Dunnes were fab they didn't even query it but if things are on sale they only give you sale price which is fair enough. I checked the website first and brought back the bits that weren't on sale and exchanged for bigger size or something different. Didn't think tesco would.

No can't get jabs at 6 weeks, my guy is 9 weeks but my GP won't do 6 week check they do 8 week only with jabs. Delightful bunch. Tbh it is better to have it spread out, I thought the check up was a bit heavy going but maybe it was just the GP, she was a bit airy fairy. Have been giving him calpol and he is smacking his lips when he gets it 😂

My stitches opened about 4 weeks in and they gave me antibiotics which kept infection away and they closed up within few days. I wouldn't look at the scar for first weeks and then I could get a smell when I took my underwear off so I had a look and it was open. The smell wasn't from the open wound though, I hadn't been lifting up the fat pouch when showering, I thought the water would just fall in there, I dunno what I was thinking. I blame the midwives for just telling me to let the water flow down from the top 😂what a gobshite I am.
How are you thinking about another baby ya mad thing hahaha

FuppinNora · 01/11/2024 21:45

Sorry just realised you aren't talking about a c section scar!

WinsandSam · 01/11/2024 21:48

We're in the depths of colic I think 😭 every day (now earlier as clocks have changed) our baby just cries and seems in so much pain. Usually stops around 10pm but it's so so sad. Give me strength
