I have just found out I am expecting baby number 2 and my due date is 1st May.

Has anyone else found out they are expecting and looking for some company?

Its interesting hearing all your experiences with these tests for certain conditions. I'm really in two minds whether to get the test done at all. It seems like it can create a lot of worry and concern when everything might be fine. The CVS test to know for sure also seems quite invasive so not sure i would want to go down that route. Is anyone else choosing not to get the combined test done? I don't know what to do

I guess the decision is super personal and what you would do with that information. If you think you would do nothing different then there is no point finding out the results of the tests / opting for them at all. I did a lot of googling before deciding what was best for us!

I refused cubs screening with my first two because the way the results are given would have caused me more anxiety, also it wouldn't have changed anything. Now with our 3rd it’s sort of a different ball game, I’m older but also there’s a whole family for it to impact. I don’t know what we’d have done but I knew we needed to know this time. We opted for nipt as I didn’t trust the nhs combined screening to not be skewed due to being over 35 etc. I didn’t need that anxiety so I went for an 11 week NIPT instead and for me it was £400 well spent.

california22 · 25/10/2024 20:17

@BoldLemur NIPT is 98% accurate so CVS is only required when the chance of a chromosomal abnormality is quite high (or rather, what you consider high, it will be different numbers for everyone). The combined will give you a high or low chance with an accuracy of about 85% so not bad, and many of the low chance results are very low - numbers like 1 in 10000 so it did give me reassurance last time that all was well and I didn't go for the NIPT as it is expensive. Also the combined looks at the nuchal fold of the baby and the maternal hormones so it doesn't rely on one parameter only.
Personally, even if I wanted to keep the baby, I would want to know, to prepare and have the support in place before the birth rather than having a surprise and needing to wait for genetic testing etc before a diagnosis. But that's me, as @fingerscrossedmumma said it's a very personal decision.

BrightGoose · 26/10/2024 07:18

I agree very personal, I didn’t have any screening with my first it would not have changed anything he also has turned out to have autism and adhd he is such an exceptional boy. My daughter I had the screening and when getting the fold reading hers was on the high side we had to go away n come back which was scary but all ok. This time I’ll have it (all being well with my rescan) my 12 week scan isn’t until 18th of nov. Like someone else said theres more people it affects now in my family n with my sons already additional needs I would defo want to find out but cannot afford a private test.

Beccaa123 · 26/10/2024 08:29

I think I will probably get the screening, although I'm not sure what it would do, other than maybe let us prepare a bit more I guess?

I am feeling quite dizzy this morning and have had a pain in my shoulder for the last couple of days. I know my pregnancy isn't ectopic as have already had scans. So new worry unlocked is that maybe it was a twin pregnancy and the other is ectopic...not even sure if that is possible!

FizzlesFirst · 26/10/2024 14:58

We had our early reassurance scan today!
I found out I was pregnant really early, at like 3-4 weeks, and went to EPU due to some spotting I was having a few weeks back. Because of that, and because it's taken us 3 years to get pregnant I really couldn't wait for the 12 week scan!
We couldn't have asked for a better result, we could see everything, baby was moving around loads and the doc was really happy that everything looks fine, and confirmed me as 9wk+4.
I was so relieved, I've been one of the lucky ones with no sickness and only a tiny bit of occasional nausea, and whilst that's nice, it's kinda had me worried too! Now I feel like I can relax a bit more and enjoy this! X

rosielu · 26/10/2024 15:52

Has anyone had pain around their belly button? Very random but today I have a sharp pain around my belly button, specifically if I go in certain positions or get up from sitting. Never had this before, I don't have a bump yet

BrightGoose · 26/10/2024 18:39

The pains I have been having are incredible, lots of sharp pains yesterday after I had a big meal I had pain around my belly button too. I don’t know if any of it is normal and I defo don’t remember any pains like this before I’m putting it down to being longer between pregnancies

glad you got your reassurance my sister was the same I was full of symptoms and she didn’t have any and it made her worried too. But everything was ok aswell

BoldLemur · 26/10/2024 19:36

Thanks for all your advise everyone. I will have to think about it a bit more and make a decision. @Beccaa123 sorry you are feeling dizzy. I was dizzy prety much every time I stood up from about 5 weeks until 9 weeks
It's only got better now at 10 weeks. Managed to take the dog for a walk today with my 2 year old which I felt was quite an achievement. Keep going everyone your all doing so well. 1st trimester is an absolutely grueling time for most of us. @rosielu I get quite sharp pains if I make a sudden movement get up suddenly.

Yes I have the belly button pain! No idea what it is but I just assume it's all the stretching! Obviously sent my anxiety into overdrive but everything is fine!

Hi all,

For those who did NIPT, can you let me know how the results were provided? Was it through a report or a phone call?

Was it something where you could easily see the gender on the report if so?

Sorry for the silly questions, trying to decide if we pay for the NIPT testing for peace of mind but also want to know how the news of gender would be shown.

TIA x

We got a written report. However we asked not to know gender so it wasn’t on the report. Apparently if we had wanted it it would have been a button to a separate page so that it wasn’t on the face of the report

AmericanGirl915 · 27/10/2024 11:01

@Poster57 thank you! That's very helpful x

Have bit the bullet and booked a private scan for this afternoon. Feeling nervous and excited. Will let you know how it goes

We’re not doing it. It wouldn’t change anything for us other than give us more information which we’ll know eventually anyway. We did the NIPT last time as we were in the mid range risk and our doctor kind of pushed for it, but we wouldn’t do it again.

Margaretschlege · 27/10/2024 12:56

Our NIPT was a report, we got an email and the results were attached. It clearly stated Fetal sex on the report, but that's because we wanted to!

24CRZZNKKA · 27/10/2024 14:25

Just had my scan and all ok 😀

Measuring slightly behind what I thought I was though (9weeks), which takes me to EDD of 1st June (although il be a C-section so will still be a May baby )

Thankfully just the one baby in there too, iv been soo unwell I was panicking that maybe there was 2!

At my clinic it’s right at the top alongside the other results so there’s no avoiding it. My clinic checked we def didn’t want to know before submitting so it was removed.

BrightGoose · 28/10/2024 10:16

Glad your scan went well. Mines tomorrow following my bleed last week. Still been very unwell and sick. A new thing for me is I’m really struggling to eat a full meal yesterday I ate what was small portion of dinner and I threw up straight after like my body just rejected it 😂

24CRZZNKKA · 28/10/2024 10:53

I hope all goes well tomorrow. Are you still suffering from bleeds?

I had a slight brown bleed again yesterday after my scan so all the reassurance I felt has dissipated again! It wasn't an internal scan so I don't think it can be linked to that.

Also told my DC last night and they are so excited. Even the youngest, (5) she was the one I was most worried about, but she is over the moon.

Also, this is bugging me.....so I have two daughters and would absolutely love another daughter. oH is the same, we have no preference for boy or girl, just want a healthy baby. But already I have had a comment 'oh you'll be hoping for a boy ' No!! I hate that people think we are only having a third because we want a boy. This was from a midwife as well 😡

Toothfairy0113 · 28/10/2024 11:35

Hi everyone!

Long time lurker 😅

I'm 36, from Lancashire and have 2 girls (11 and 8). 11+1 today - EDD 18/05/2025.

Took us almost 2 years to get pregnant this time (eldest was 1st month off the pill, 2nd was a wonderful surprise 🙈🤣) so was a bit of a shock when it took so long this time.

Had some brown spotting and pretty bad cramping lastnight, had a panic and booked for a private scan today.. Thankfully everything looked fine and they measured me a day ahead at 11+2, was super relieved after a very stressful evening.

Anyone else feel like they're starting all over again with older babies already?? I'm super excited though and so are our girls ❤️ Both girls were breech but (planned) vaginal deliveries so a bit anxious to see if this one will be a lazy bones like their sisters were 😅

This drives me crazy too!! I get the sentiment (and some people may well try for another of a certain sex which is totally fine!!) but why can't we just be having another for the fact we want another bubba?? We get this too, especially my husband "oooo bet you'll be hoping for a boy this time ey!" My husband has always said he's very content being a girl dad and what will be will be ❤️

Beccaa123 · 28/10/2024 11:50

It's exciting to see everyone having or approaching their 12 week scans, hope they go well!
Mine is on the 11th but I'll be closer to 13 weeks by then.
My heart rate has been quite high today, resting has been around 75-85 and when I stand up and walk it seems to be hitting 120, I'm pretty sure I seen it as high as 130 at one point

rosielu · 28/10/2024 12:07

Just had a phone call after my 12 week screening to say I have low PAPP-A and am at risk of preeclampsia and will have to start taking aspirin for the duration of my pregnancy. Has anyone had this before? The worrier in me is now googling non stop 😭

Blossomofhope · 28/10/2024 12:35

Hi ladies,
Im 10 weeks 4 days today. Yesterday I felt a million times better and felt like the fog lifted but today sickness is back with a vengeance. After a week holiday & a week sick I’m supposed to go back to work tomorrow, not sure what to do now. Has anyone else found nausea stopping and starting? This morning I thought I could do a hike & pub lunch, now I can’t leave the couch and just focussed on my breathing. 😅😂🥵
