I have just found out I am expecting baby number 2 and my due date is 1st May.

Has anyone else found out they are expecting and looking for some company?

@Loute02 @rosielu good luck to you both for your scans on Thursday, very exciting 🤍

Also @Loute02 great results on the NIPT. We contemplated doing it but have decided to wait for our 12wk scan on Tuesday next week, if baby is all ok at the scan I know waiting for those results will worry me so kind of regretting not doing the NIPT now!

I'm also crying at absolutely everything 😂

Thank you! What is the difference between 12 week scan and NIPT? Sorry for my ignorance! I had my last baby 7 years ago so feel like I'm starting again and clueless 😂

@TheBeesKnee I've just seen you said you struggled to sleep last night, I did too! I woke up at like 2:30 and couldn't get back to sleep until it was nearly time to get up! Must be something about reaching 12 weeks 😅

I have weirdly not been tearful this pregnancy yet until yesterday when one of my best friends told me she is pregnant and only 4 weeks behind me! I have been quite miserable though I won't lie, just not tearful!

Jess2826 · 22/10/2024 17:15

I'm 9 weeks 5 days and feel like my nausea isn't as bad as it was around week 6/7 but the fact I've not eaten properly for nearly a month is making me feel rubbish. I just want to eat a normal meal 😩
Also accidently took my multivit and sertraline with warm water last night (didn't check the tap was cold first🙄) made me sick straight away and then left me feeling rubbish the rest of the night.

rosecbrm · 22/10/2024 17:20

@rosielu I'm not 100% sure as this is the first pregnancy I've got to this stage. But the 12 week scan (in my area anyway) is your normal dating scan where they measure the NT, and also a combined blood tests to check for DS and Edwards/Patau syndromes. I believe it just gives you a high or low risk result for them, whereas a NIPT is a lot more detailed I believe.

Someone please correct me if this is wrong!

That is correct! (Anxious first time mum who googles everything!)

The combined screening is offered on the NHS and will give you a risk factor... the NIPT will only be offered on NHS if a risk is over a certain amount otherwise it's a private test. NIPT is a more accurate blood test so it depends on how you view your combined screening results and the risk you are happy with.

Personally we are waiting for the combined screening on NHS as if risk is high we will get the NHS NIPT, but if risk is low personally I am so anxious we will pay for an NIPT anyway. Hope this helps!

LeBonBon · 22/10/2024 18:19

I went for my 12 week scan (I'm 11w6d according to my own calculations and by the measurements today) but according to them, baby was still a bit too small to get an accurate NT result so I've got to go back closer to 14 weeks. Baby was so wriggly though so that can't have helped - doing actual somersaults 😆

And the sickness is back 😭 Was sick 3 times before lunch yesterday including on my commuter train 😞

Poster57 · 22/10/2024 18:41

12 week scan is also this week - Thursday & I got results from private NIPT yesterday. For me it was well worthwhile. Took a weight off of our shoulders.

fingerscrossedmumma · 22/10/2024 18:42

Does anyone know how long it takes for the NHS combined screening results to be available? Is it on the day?

Herewegoagain8 · 22/10/2024 19:50

@fingerscrossedmumma i had my scan and bloods on Friday and I was told I’d hear in five working days if I was high risk via phone call and longer and by letter if low risk. I’m tearing my hair out as I’ve had a high risk result before that didn’t end well so time is going incredibly slowly at the moment.

rosielu · 22/10/2024 19:52

So do you get offered NIPT on the NHS if your 12 week tests come back as high risk? Can I ask how much people have paid privately for this If you don't mind sharing?

Herewegoagain8 · 22/10/2024 19:56

@rosielu yeah if your results come back high risk you get offered the NIPT on the NHS. It only tests for the trisomies though and in my situation if I get a high risk result I’ll probably have to have a CVS as the issue my baby had in a previous pregnancy wouldn’t have shown up on a NIPT.

Loute02 · 22/10/2024 20:15

Thanks @rosecbrm !
@rosielu I've been quite anxious this pregnancy for some reason and opted to pay for private NIPT. Cost £360 and included : a scan, results for Down, Edwards, Patau, Turner, Klinefelter, Jacob and Triple X syndromes and also gave me the gender ☺️ For the piece of mind, it was worth it for me. Only disappointing bit is I received only a "Low risk" result instead of a % or a number.
It is done with a blood test. At the 12w scan at the NHS they'll do NT measurements and only will offer you the NIPT if you are high risk.
The NHS results came back pretty quickly (within 5 days) in my last pregnancy so the wait is not terrible!

24CRZZNKKA · 22/10/2024 21:15

Today has been a tough day. Absolutely drained, 24hr nausea and so weak I thought I was going to pass out. Why is it so hard???

What is the biological purpose of pregnancy being so miserable. Gahhhhh

MrsKurz · 23/10/2024 07:04

I’m 8w5d and feeling pretty crappy. I’m lucky I don’t have much nausea but I just feel like a shell of a person. I also feel so so far behind you ladies as I’m due right at the end of May, so just feeling disheartened and fed up. My 12 week scan is on November 20th, though I’ll be more like 12.5 weeks by then; I’m just praying I’ll perk up in the next week or 2. Ughhhhh

Sierra26 · 23/10/2024 08:02

@MrsKurz im with you, 8+6 and 12wk scan isn’t until 18th nov. It’s a long wait! I don’t have any nausea unless I let my blood sugar dip or my stomach gets too empty. Mostly for me it’s extreme exhaustion, like drowsiness, in the afternoon and then in the evening. Mornings I feel quite energetic so trying to make the most of that! Hope you feel better soon x

fingerscrossedmumma · 23/10/2024 08:44

Hey ladies I am terrified today - I've had increased spotting (already on progesterone) and cramping. I am fearing for the worst after previous losses and I don't know how to calm my mind until the hospital can see me. I'm 11 weeks 2 days so was starting to get into a sense of hope :(

california22 · 23/10/2024 09:00

@MrsKurz I remember you from the other thread when we got our BFP. I'm also due end of May and 9+0 today! I have a scan tomorrow but can't wait til the second trimester to hopefully relax a little bit and feel better.

@fingerscrossedmumma that must be so worrying for you. I hope everything goes well xx

BrightGoose · 23/10/2024 10:10

When can the hospital see you ?

im 8+6 today too I’ve been sick this morning again feel like the antiemetics are just not working again now plus when I’m sick I don’t know if I’m bringing some of it up aswell. I have my first midwife appointment tomorrow

narns · 23/10/2024 10:14

Dear lord we're experiencing a sleep regression with DD (17 months). My previously sleep loving, non-protesting baby is refusing to go in her cot, waking through the night and ending up in our bed. Until this week, she'd never spent any time in our bed! It is really taking pregnancy tiredness to another level 😔 anyone been through this before?! I know it's all a phase and I'll get her back, but god it's tough.

We've got a private scan booked in on Sunday as we're planning to tell family on holiday next week!

Only tomorrow morning! I'm hoping it's nothing - I've had on and off spotting throughout and last saw healthy baby at 9+4 so I'm really hoping it's nothing

@fingerscrossedmumma I hope all goes well for you tomorrow! I've had bleeding and spotting too. After multiple scans, a private scan at 9 + 2 found a SCH. This has remained the same pool size on a NHS monitoring scan two weeks later even with multiple progesterone pessaries a day and injecting progesterone. I found some research recommending Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) has been shown to help with SCH (and also miscarriage). I asked the consultant at the EPU and they had no clue, so I told them I'm going to try it and see what happens ready for the next two weekly monitoring scan. They've also prescribed me progesterone all the way up to 16 weeks now. I thought it might be worth you looking into ALA and mentoning tomorrow if you think it could be worth considering?

Noisinmaro · 23/10/2024 16:37

I'm 12+2 had 12 week scan all seemed good...had scan at 7, 9, 12 weeks and again at 16 and 20 so happy enough with that...I've hypothyroidism and suffer badly with it.....
Im taking progesterone and aspirin and 5mg of folic its higher strength....
I've NIPT booked for 7th Nov consultant advised to do it due to age so booked it, whatever the results won't be doing anything .....just hoping and praying to get through every day and all is well......on carriban as was throwing up alot and came to a head at 11 weeks...just got too all much...couldnt function off sick now from work...feel like a different person on carriban took few days to get use to it....I take it and don't eat for half hour or longer....
Has anyone told work yet?????
I haven't but I will have to soon....

Thanks for this! If you don't mind me asking, how much were you bleeding? They keep telling me spotting is very common and they are not concerned but I just cannot trust my body anymore. I had ZERO indication of a miscarriage for my missed miscarriage, and now I'm spotting and baby looked healthy 2 weeks ago....
