Good luck @oop !

Kicking off the new thread with a baby update - he's here! Born 2pm today.

My planned home water birth didn't happen, but everything unfurled as it needed to in the end...

I woke up at 5:30 today with a big contraction and my waters broke. An hour later, we found meconium and as the home birth midwives weren't available, we went into hospital just to get baby checked over. Soon after we arrived, contractions were coming thick and fast so we decided to stay put, and good job too. We don't know exactly why, possibly due to some distress already, but my body tried to push him out when I was only 7cm dilated. I knew something was wrong at that point, it hurt too much and I told my midwives he needed to get out quick, which at first they thought was a normal transition wobble...until with the next contraction I had an antepartum haemorrhage. 2 minutes later I was signing c section consent forms.

Very very luckily, just before they were going to put me fully under, I got to 10cm in no time and he was born with forceps and 2 pushes. He needed a bit of help and it took some time to stop my bleeding, but everything is under control and we've had a good outcome. Baby boy is smashing all his observations luckily, after some scary talk, and he's feeding well.

So here's the takeaway for any other massive babies - if you're 10lbs5oz, don't try to squeeze through a 7cm cervix 😆 I'm sure there was a very good reason that he & my body decided he needed to come when he did, and I'm so relieved about the outcome. But he's a whopper and it wasn't fun getting him out!

CheeseWisely · 10/06/2024 01:03

Wow! Congratulations on the big, beautiful baby and well done for what sounds like quite the labour!

Wheeeeee · 10/06/2024 07:23

Congratulations @Edgeofthesea !! Sorry to hear things got a bit dramatic, it sounds like you and baby boy are doing brilliantly ❤️ well done 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

May5th · 10/06/2024 07:55

Congratulations @Edgeofthesea, such a big one! My first was 9lbs 7 and I had an epidural that time and a long induction. This time round in comparison what sounds like a small 8lbs 8 but with gas and air and while the induction itself took ages, in the end I went from 4cm to baby having been born in 17 minutes. I think I only pushed a few times. The midwives weren’t expecting it to happen so quickly, I felt the urge to push and just couldn’t stop or slow down, the contractions had been mild once my waters had been broken but then suddenly they got very intense and there was no break in between. The pain was terrible but as soon as baby popped out you forget, it’s so instant.

Our son is 6 days old today and doing really well. We got discharged on day 2 but have had to go in a few times for jaundice checks, he’s got jaundice but it’s tracking below the phototherapy line so we’ve not had to stay. I had the same with my first son but he actually needed to be under the light so looks like this baby has it milder and the numbers are improving so I’m hoping he will just naturally clear it.

Congratulations to all the new babies in the last few days, I couldn’t keep up towards the end of the old thread. And good luck to those still waiting. ❤️🥰

Wheeeeee · 10/06/2024 08:00

I forgot to say @oop I really hope things start moving for you soon!

Suchardchoccy · 10/06/2024 08:10

Congratulations @Edgeofthesea 🥰🥰🥰
Good luck @oop 😍

Goldie1234 · 10/06/2024 08:18

Congratulations to everyone with new babes and good luck to everyone in the midst of labour, inductions and waiting !!

We have a 1 week old ! Our little boy arrived last Monday 3rd after a speedy induction at 37 weeks. I had the pessary which worked well for my last 2 as well, which the midwives explained meant that I would have probably gone into labour myself over the next few days. Contractions started getting very intense very quickly (hyperstimulation from the pessary) so I asked for it out at 3cm. They filled up the pool for me and I had the baby in the pool basically straight away ! For anyone still considering a pool birth... I had always thought of them as "the dream".. I can't tell you how gross it actually is ! Haha ! But I'm happy to have done it rather than epidural as we were allowed to go straight home after he was born !
Baby had a tongue tie so feeding was mind blowingly painful and our hospital waiting list is over a month, luckily managed to get it done privately so now my nips are slowly recovering and baby is learning to latch again.
Will pop a picture up on the fb group, have enjoyed reading about everyone's births and looking forward to hearing about the rest !! X

Goldie1234 · 10/06/2024 08:18

Oo how is everyone doing with names ? We still haven't got one.. and registry is on Wednesday!

LizzeyBenett · 10/06/2024 08:23

Was induced Saturday at 38 weeks due to preeclampsia , got the first gel at 11am and the second around 5pm waters went on there own it's all a bit of a blur after that think I went from 2cm dilated to ready to deliver in the space of an hour or two (again I've little memory of it I went very hard on gas and air) ended up delivering with gas and air at 12.57 am on Sunday morning hopefully going home today with my little 6.10oz baby girl. I'd also recommend a tens machine it saved me.

Goldie1234 · 10/06/2024 08:25

Congratulations @LizzeyBenett ! I also went hard on the gas and air 😅 so out of it ! Well done !

MorningsideMaisie · 10/06/2024 09:13

Hi everyone! Thanks for making a new thread @oop and congrats to those who have already had their May/June babies! It’s been a while since my last update but I’ve been enjoying hearing about all the new arrivals.

I’m 37+4 today, no signs of any action and not likely to be induced early. Will ask for a sweep at my midwife appointment on Friday if it’s possible though. I simultaneously can’t wait to meet the baby but also still feel unprepared!

I started mat leave last week, and thought I’d be more productive than I have been. Seems the body really does just want to rest, the nesting and cleaning might come later…

Redheadx · 10/06/2024 09:24

I’m 39 weeks plus 3 and no signs! I had signs last week and then they all stopped! Struggling as I feel like I will be pregnant forever 😫😫

MizzMarple · 10/06/2024 09:41

Congratulations @Edgeofthesea that’s a massive baby! Sounds quite traumatic but at least you’re both ok.

And congratulations @LizzeyBenett and @Goldie1234.

Ive got my c section booked in for next week but have suddenly switched from I can’t wait until this baby is born to being scared of the c section and then looking after 3 kids (I’ve got my DH and my parents around so it should be fine but still).

We have the same due date! Also really struggling - assuming she won’t be here until 41

Anxiousheartbeat · 10/06/2024 11:40

Trying to hold out until 41 to get a sweep so she’s had more time
to
chub up/come out when she’s wants to but it’s hard

El1988 · 10/06/2024 11:48

Congratulations on all the new arrivals! It’s so nice to read all the stories!

Hope things are moving for you @oop and thank you for making then new thread!

Redheadx · 10/06/2024 12:02

@Anxiousheartbeat aw snap! It’s so hard isn’t it I just had a good cry! I know the wait will be worth it but when you get this uncomfortable it’s difficult waiting. Keep me posted ❤️

DanisEndo · 10/06/2024 12:14

Thanks for setting up the new group @oop keeping everything crossed you’re induced soon!
congrats to even more babies being born!!

37+4 today and already getting calls from family asking if there’s any signs 😂 I’m feeling a lot more prepared than last week but still nervous about birth and the unknown of it all.

DH is trying to work out how best to structure his paternity leave. He gets a very generous 12weeks at 90%. He’s a bit of a workaholic so I’ve basically told him to structure it however works best for him AS LONG AS he’s actually off and not checking emails/logging in here or there… how have your partners structured time off to best support you / what would you have found most useful?

Same here my family have started to ask what’s the ETA on baby 🤭😂 I’m 38+4 and have had menstrual cramping for last 3 days, looks like baby has dropped but that could also be my wish to assume that ahaha

husband is planning to take 2 weeks off when baby comes, 2 weeks back at work then another 2 weeks off - that’s hoping everything goes smoothly with no complications! This way he can give me 100% and also check back into work. He’s wfh now so helps with toddler for potty runs up the stairs 🫣 hopefully grandparents will be able to take care of our toddler too

Wheeeeee · 10/06/2024 12:35

@DanisEndo 12 weeks at 90% is fantastic, how lovely for you both to have that time 🙂 mine just gets the statutory 2 weeks but I'm hoping he can tag on another week A/L. Then we're planning to do shared parental leave with him taking over at 8 months. Can your DH take his leave in blocks? A good block of 4-6 weeks at the beginning and then another block maybe around 4 months (classic sleep regression time...) might be quite helpful?

Elmlee · 10/06/2024 15:01

Congratulations on all the new babies. Lovely to see so many arriving,
I can't believe our little one is a week out this evening.
She's so dreamy. She was only 5Ibs 11oz.
I'd love to join the Facebook group if anyone has a link 🩷🥰

DanisEndo · 10/06/2024 16:56

@beaniesunrise @Wheeeeee it is fantastic and sooo much better than we expected! It’s just tricky working out when it’ll be most useful to use. I think he can take blocks. I hadn’t thought of the 4 month regression but that’s a great point I’ll mention that to him!!

just done my first colostrum harvesting and I love it! Fiddly at first but filled my first syringe and feels like my first “mummy” job 😂🥹
