Still no period, still BFN, still huge bellied, tried to get a doctors appointment this morning, but they were fully booked apparently, all the receptionist could offer was for me to take DS1 (inset day tomorrow) and DS2 to the surgery doorstep tomorrow morning at 8am, and the doctor might see me if he feels like it.

There is no way I can get there for 8am tomorrow, (I don't drive, buses don't start till 7.30, then I'd have to get from town to the doctors, at DS1's pace, I'd be pushing it to get there for 8.15) and there is no saying that I'll get a 'normal appointment for tomorrow judging by today's fiasco.

I am really sorry to start yet another thread about this, I feel like such a bloody drama queen, but I really don't know what to do.

can you bk an appt in advance or is only ring on the day ones? Besides, if you want blood tests you would need tobook in with nurse wouldn't you? would that make a difference? could you book in with nurse for bloods and then se Dr when you can?

Wisteria · 03/04/2008 10:27

hi NJ - ring the surgery again and tell them it's an emergency, that you can't get there by 8 and you need to at least speak to if not see your gp. You can always get a home visit if nec. My gp will do a phone consul.

Can your dh/dp not take time off to take you or a good friend?

hippipotami · 03/04/2008 10:28

Do you have an NHS walk-in clinic near you?

Or failing that, can you phone NHS direct for some advice? They may be able to put your mind at rest re what it could be.

Also, have you tried different brands of pregnancy test, because I thought you said there was a faint line yesterday?

I am really sorry you are going through this and I hope you find some answers soon.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/04/2008 10:33

I thought there was a feint line yesterday? If all else fails then yes, phone NHS direct and see what they say - they might tell you to go to A&E or something equally ridiculous, but at least it will get you seen.

BetteNoir · 03/04/2008 10:35

Are you in any pain, NJ?

NatalieJane · 03/04/2008 10:37

MOM, it is normally that you can pre-book appointments in the mornings (but there is always at least a couple of months waiting list for these) or you ring at 8.30 for an appointment in the afternoon, I rang from 8.30 onwards but it was constantly engaged, finally got through at 8.45 and all appointments had gone, I asked if the nurse was booked up and yes she was.

Wisteria, My GP himself would take a phone consultation, but firstly, I'm not sure if he could do anything over the phone, and secondly he is on compationate leave at the moment (his wife died recently) he is the only GP at the surgery, so it is being carried by locums, who quite frankly couldn't give a shit, they have turned DS2 away whilst he was fitting before now. And they won't do home visits at all.

DH can take time off, but it really really really cocks up his staff when he has to leave at the drop of a hat, he has offered many times, but I don't feel I cock everyone's week up just for me. No friends around here that aren't working.

Hippi, No NHS walk in centre. Again not sure NHS direct could do anything over the phone. I have used so far cheapie eBay test, Lloyds pharmacy own brand tests, and Boot's Digital tests, the one yesterday that I thought I could see a line on was an eBay cheapie, all others have been BFN.

I can't go to A&E, not for this, besides I have DS1's parent's evening later, I can't be at school, and waiting up at A&E for 6 hours.

Nope, no pain what so ever.

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 03/04/2008 10:41

maxium wait at a&e is four hours - at least that's the target. I really don't think you should let this go on any longer without a medical opinion!

NatalieJane · 03/04/2008 10:44

But is it worthy of A&E? I feel like one of those people, y'know the ones that ring ambulances for a head ache etc.

OP posts:
BetteNoir · 03/04/2008 10:49

Is it likely that you'll need a scan?
If so, then you would have to go to the hospital wouldn't you?
Phone NHS Direct and ask their opinion if it would make you feel better.
I think it would be wise to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible.

misdee · 03/04/2008 10:50

NJ,. has your belly gone down at all since your mc? i think you should go to a+e or get some proper medical advice asap as i dont think its right.

NatalieJane · 03/04/2008 10:52

Yes belly had returned completely to normal after the MC.

Well I am going to have to decide by this afternoon whether it is A&E or not...

madamy · 03/04/2008 10:53

For heaven's sake, get a medical opinion! I agree with BetteNoir, phone NHS direct and then if they advise you to go to hospital at least you have been in touch with a healthcare professional who has told you to go.
I don't want to be a scaremonger, but there are other reasons for a swollen abdomen to do with ovaries and the bowel, some of which can be serious, go get yourself seen!

windygalestoday · 03/04/2008 10:55

get to a&e that is why we have these facilities you arent abusing it youre using it .....im sure your dh pays plenty of national insurance and YOU NEED medical advice, besides im so curious as to what it is

nervousal · 03/04/2008 10:55

for goodness sake just phone NHS Direct - its what they are there for - they will refer you on to A&E if needed

NatalieJane · 03/04/2008 10:56

Yes I will, you are right, I will ring them, then like you say if they say A&E then at least I can A&E that they've sent me, so I don't feel like a complete idiot!

Thanks everyone

Def a&e if your gp won't see you.

Blu · 03/04/2008 11:02

Not sure - have you phoned NHS Direct?

It sounds a complete schlepp to get to the Doctors - I think i would turn up as soon as you can, explain about the journey, and burst into tears at the receptionist and say you are too scared to leave until you have been seen by a doctor.

od - your GP system sounds a complete nightmare - big sympathies.

Where do you live, NatailiJane? Is there a MN-er nearby who could give you a lift or help out?

misdee · 03/04/2008 11:04

tbh, i think they Gp would proberly send you to hospital for further tests anyway, so just go to a+e. get someone else to watch ds2 and collect ds1.

Wisteria · 03/04/2008 11:33

Agree, I am also not one of those people NJ but looking at your tum I'd have been at A&E when it first started. It's not normal.

Let us know how you get on please x
