@HRP1990 Thanks, we all thought it might be a boy but still a nice surprise to actually find out

Cat2022 · 04/04/2024 19:42

@HRP1990 I have felt really disconnected this pregnancy so far too. I have started to feel some movement the past two days and booked a gender scan for Saturday just to try and make it feel more real.

Whenever I speak about anything that’s sort of planning for the future my daughter is just at the forefront of my mind that the new one isn’t really getting much consideration yet but hopefully with time that will change.

YellowZ · 04/04/2024 19:43

Congratulations @hol92 and @Fik88 one of each!

@Cinai I'd check with your midwife just in case, but I'd say it's normal to have weird pressure/pains etc. I have a sore vagina 😂 I think it's the increased blood flow. Maybe it's the extra blood pumping round there for you too - exacerbated by exercise?

Fik88 · 04/04/2024 19:48

@YellowZ Thank you

Cinai · 04/04/2024 21:08

Thanks @YellowZ thinking about it, it could also be dryness that causes this feeling in my vagina…I’ll mention it to the midwife next week for peace of mind and will try not to overthink it in the meantime.

TripleESept24 · 04/04/2024 21:22

So my midwife told me to buy some magnesium gel for my restless legs and cramps.

Used it last night slept better without waking so much stretching and in pain.

Just rubbed it into my ankles and calfs about an hour and a half after having a bath and I had to rinse it all off it was stinging my legs so badly 😭😭😭

longingtobe23 · 04/04/2024 21:26

@TripleESept24 oh no! How annoying not freshly shaved or waxed were they? I mean silly question but I hope it’s something simple if it was working and giving relief 🤦🏼‍♀️😩

rupertbear91 · 04/04/2024 21:33

@TripleESept24 I am a regular magnesium spray/cream user for back issues/migraines if I don't use it for a week or so it stings like hell for a few days till I get used to it again. A doctor actually said to me that's because you are deficient if it stings if there is any truth in it

Can you recommend one? I was assuming it's something to do with the hot bath/my skin being a bit sensitive.

I'm scared to use it again now I left it on for 5 mins but could not cope with the stinging.... 😭 This is the one I've got

@TripleESept24 I’ve been taking a magnesium supplement with the rest of my vitamins for a few weeks now and I think that’s helping me to sleep better. That could be worth a go for your legs/cramps if you don’t get on with the gels and creams?

I just had a look and pregnacare original has 150 mg of magnesium and we can have up to 350mg!! Definitely think I'll be investing in some additional magnesium supplements! Thanks don't know why midwife didn't recommend that and only recommended the cream/gel

Honeyandsunshine1 · 04/04/2024 22:05

@TripleESept24 ice been taking magnesium glycinate for the last year, and I think it helps me have a deeper sleep. I found a research study online that said it can potentially improve birth/pregnany. Outcomes such as pre-eclampsia, and seeing as I had PE in my first pregnancy, I was like yep, don’t need any more confirmation 🤣 I’ll paste the research below

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5590399/

Effect of Magnesium Supplement on Pregnancy Outcomes: A Randomized Control Trial

Magnesium (Mg) is an essential mineral required to regulate body temperature, nucleic acid, and protein synthesis with an important role in maintaining nerve and muscle cell electrical potentials. It may reduce fetal growth restriction and preeclampsia...

rupertbear91 · 04/04/2024 22:17

@TripleESept24 I use the better you brand I get it from Holland and Barrett but they do it on Amazon too. I have the sleep body lotion and the spray maybe just do a little at a time like start ok your thigh which might be less sensitive and expand? Worth a try I do find it helps

Question for people who’ve already had babies: is the tea and toast in hospital thing true??

I’ve always been a huge tea drinker, but during pregnancy I’ve hardly touched it (just haven’t wanted hot drinks at all). I’ve also gone off butter, where toast, butter & sometimes marmite always used to be my comfort food whenever I was sick.

I know I don’t want either of them right now, but I am desperately looking forward to wanting them when I’ve had the baby, and am hoping that the story that they bring you tea and toast when you’ve given birth is true! Otherwise as part of my birth plan I’m going to have to figure out where the nearest cafe to the hospital is so I can send dh out to get them 😂

@Lillers I got tea & toast after my birth! The lovely midwife even went searching for a mint teabag for me as I didn’t drink tea or coffee at the time!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 05/04/2024 10:57

@Lillers Yes its true!

I'm not a tea drinker, or a toast eater, it's really not my choice of food - but my god the toast they gave me was the best meal I've ever had in my life 😂 maybe it was cus I had HG throughout - but I also have friends who have said the same thing, my friend said she had 3 rounds of toast after because it was so delicious 😂

cd24x · 05/04/2024 10:58

@Lillers it was completely true for me. Honestly the best thing I've ever eaten! Probably helps that you have all the love hormones running through you at the same time as you'll have a gorgeous little baby in your arms. Also, make sure you include lots of nice snacks/drinks in your hospital bag. I don't know how I would have coped on postnatal ward without them!

Lillers · 05/04/2024 11:28

@LSW82 @BeautyAndTheBump1 @cd24x I am so happy to hear that not only is this true, but it’s as good as I’m hoping it will be!

WolfMother326 · 05/04/2024 12:42

@Lillers yes, the tea and toast is real! and it is so comforting. Not only that, but the hospital food which they bring you for breakfast or dinner tastes amazing, even though in real life you might not like it! But they don't usually give it to birth partners, so tell them to bring a sandwich and some snack bars.

WolfMother326 · 05/04/2024 12:44

@Cat2022 I am having a kind of similar problem, that its very hard to think about the 4th trimester or time with the coming baby because I am worrying about how the changes will impact my son who will be just 3 when the baby comes. I did get a book that has helped, called the Second Baby Book by Sarah Ockwell Smith.

YellowZ · 05/04/2024 13:57

@Lillers I missed out on the tea and toast! There was no space on the ward, I had to stay in the birthing room for hours and hours. Quite sad actually! Maybe I'll have double helpings this time haha

TripleESept24 · 05/04/2024 14:15

I've never heard of this tea and toast thing 😆 I only drink herbal teas, but I love toast so I'll have alllllll the toast please!

I missed out too! 😂 I tested positive for covid during labour and was put in my own quarantined room once I had the baby.. this girl did no get her tea or toast 🥲

rupertbear91 · 05/04/2024 14:54

Hospital toast is the best! They always give me some in EPU before I'm allowed home after my fluids and it's so good. I have never managed to recreate it at home!

We've just been and put a deposit down on our pram and travel system! It felt so surreal actually going to a baby shop!
