Marking my place 👋🏼

MudandMoet · 12/03/2024 08:00

Thanks @Lillers 💚

Decaffe · 12/03/2024 08:02

Thank you @Lillers! Anyone else got their 12 week scan today?

@MudandMoet did I see you’re having a little girl? How wonderful! 😊

Bakerbean · 12/03/2024 08:03

Thank you @Lillers ! 😊

VT6 · 12/03/2024 08:12

Marking my place! Now I’ve had my scan I feel like time has slowed down 😂

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 12/03/2024 08:18

What's everyone's thoughts on the Doona? I've been looking at ones on the marketplace and they're not a bad price. But not sure about them...

fleur89 · 12/03/2024 08:35

@BeautyAndTheBump1 don't recommend the doona, was gifted a second hand one and baby 1 hated it. We never used it and passed it on. Only lasts about 12 months and baby is only allowed in it max 2 hours at a time due to the angle

Wow thread 5.. how many threads will we go through by the time babies are here!?

Kofifi · 12/03/2024 08:45

Hi everyone! Thanks @Lillers

Cinai · 12/03/2024 08:57

Anyone else got their 12 weeks scan today? 😃 Mine is at 12:00. Excited for my scan and far less nervous than last time when I had my NIPT at 11 weeks. Only issue is that I have a moody DH in tow. He’s self-employed and sulks because he would like/should be working today. I told him again and again it’s fine for him to go to work, we’ve been at the NIPT together and he saw the baby then, but he preferred to cancel his work and sulk instead 🤷‍♀️

VT6 · 12/03/2024 09:14

@Cinai i’m sure once he sees the baby the sulk will disappear 😂

rupertbear91 · 12/03/2024 09:23

Marking my space too! In between sticking my head down the toilet 😫😫

RosiePH · 12/03/2024 09:31

Just to follow on the NIPT/NHS convo, the sonographer at the EPU and my midwife told me to tell the 12 week scan sonographer that I had already had the NIPT/or if I was planning on a private one as the combined screening is less effective (only 80% apparently and far more false positives) so there’s no point having it as they’d do a NIPT as the next stage anyway. I guess it also saves the NHS a bit of money if they don’t have to run blood tests for someone who has already paid for a more reliable test?

But I am confused about PAPP-A. Does that get measured from the Nuchal Translucency and/or the combined blood test? Because that wasn’t covered on the NIPT. And doesn’t seem to be related to chromosome disorders.

Fik88 · 12/03/2024 09:45

Thanks @Lillers for starting new thread. Good Luck to those having scans today

Decaffe · 12/03/2024 09:46

My understanding is that the relationship between PappA and bHCG can indicate some syndromes - e.g. if one is low and the other is high. Also having levels of either that deviate significantly from the mean of 1 can mean more frequent monitoring and observation, as I think a few on here have found out.

The levels are only ascertained through the blood test.

SC126 · 12/03/2024 09:50

Marking my place. 14 weeks and still being sick 😩 I'm so over it.

Thank you! I think I will ask for them to do the blood test then as I remember seeing posters mention having a low papp-a and it being associated with things like reduced growth. But maybe I will skip the full combined test, and just have a dating scan and any relevant blood tests.

I’d usually take every test and vaccination going, but it’s thrown me because the midwife and sonographer said I wouldn’t need the combined if I had a NIPT done.

Lillers · 12/03/2024 10:19

@rupertbear91 @SC126 Sorry you guys are still sick - me too 😔. The cyclizine definitely feels like it’s taken the edge off some days, but not all the time. Yesterday was awful - I was holding on until I got home from the shops then as soon as I was in the front door I dropped all the shopping and was throwing up in the downstairs bathroom with my coat still on 😭

@Lillers that's literally my life at the minute anytime I go out in the car it's a race to get back inside in time to throw up. I feel really weak today and know I need more fluids but the thought of another 5 hour wait to get them is not appealing!

Martibum · 12/03/2024 10:47

Just wondering if anyone has/is attends a preterm clinic? (I'm in Ireland so things could be different) my waters broke in week 36 with my daughter which led to nicu admission for sepsis afterwards.
The consultant had referred me on to preterm clinic even though my first "late preterm" but with twins everything has to be extra cautious.

I have no idea what to expect for my first appointment tomorrow. Then I have my 1st twins clinic in 2 weeks. Oh and a dietician app this week too!

hol92 · 12/03/2024 11:03

👋😊

HRP1990 · 12/03/2024 11:43

No experience here @Martibum but I hope all goes well for your appointment!

My best friend went into spontaneous labour with both of her pregnancies at 35 weeks, I think she ended up staying in a week or so? Baby was a healthy weight and no NICU.

I contracted sepsis with my daughter during labour and had to stay in for a few days too, but again she was all fine, that hasn’t been bought up so far.

Sydney1988 · 12/03/2024 12:02

@RosiePH I had private NIPT and told my sonographer at my 12 week scan who advised I have the NHS combined screening anyway as it tests for PAAP-A (NIPT doesn’t) x

Sydney1988 · 12/03/2024 12:07

@Martibum I have just got back from my first appointment at the pre term clinic. I’ve been referred as I had a cone biopsy so there’s a risk I have a weaker cervix and could miscarry or go into pre term labour. They asked me for a urine sample first of all (had already had a wee so a lesson for next time). She then did a vaginal swab to test for infections and then an abdominal scan to check all OK. Then a transvaginal scan to check length of cervix and measure. I have to go back every two weeks until approx 22 weeks for the same set of tests. She assured me length is OK but they want to check it’s staying strong throughout. Hope that helps, happy to answer any other questions x
