@Ebonythoughts I hope you are ok, your post about being sent away was worrying. If MAU turned away, I'd have been inclined to go to A&E for the level of bleeding described. Hope you have managed to get some help and are being well looked after.

redxlondon · 25/03/2024 20:28

My son gave his first big social smile at 5.5 weeks, he’s 7 weeks on Wednesday and I haven’t seen one for a week…makes me worry I’m not doing things right. Anyone else found big smile gaps?

Sunshineclouds11 · 25/03/2024 21:36

@redxlondon Some days DD will give us smiles for nothing other days we have to work for them.

When I talk to her I tap or give her a cheek a little rub and she'll smile.

LavenderSweetPea · 25/03/2024 21:41

@Ebonythoughts I hope everything is ok!

Ladies my little boy has his first set of vaccines this week. Apart from having cálpol at the ready, does anyone have any advice or reassurance on what to expect?

Sunshineclouds11 · 25/03/2024 21:47

@LavenderSweetPea I gave Calpol half hour before.
Have a dummy or bottle ready.
Putting them in a baby grow instead of clothes so it's easier/quicker.
Legs will be tender so careful when handling and changing.

My DS was fine after his just legs abit sore.

Ebonythoughts · 25/03/2024 23:39

Hi all,

So I did end up calling MAU back and they said they would seek advice and call me back but never did. I did however get a call back from a consultant through 111 who said I should go to A & E.

After a 5 hour wait was seen and the doctor determined that it wasn’t PPH which I knew it wouldn’t be because apart from the heavy bleeding I didn’t have any of the other symptoms apart from light-headedness which I knew would be because of my anemia. They said my postpartum bleed ended and my menstrual cycle started quite early especially since I’m breastfeeding and the heavy bleeding was from the blood thinning injections I was taking post c-section. They said now I’ve stopped taking the injection it should steady but could take a few days which is dangerous for me since I’m already anaemic. They gave me option of either medication and/or contraception to stop the menstrual cycle so that I don’t lose blood (but these all had side effects I didn’t want to deal with) or for me to monitor it over the next couple of days and if still heavily bleeding to be brought back in and to have an iron infusion as well as a further assessment.

I’m back home and although the clots are no longer present the bleeding is just as heavy and extremely thin to the point I’m changing clothes every 1-2 hours. I’m going back in tomorrow for an agreed iron infusion and I might agree to the medication proposed because I can’t take care of my daughter like this.

I genuinely feel like my body has been drained and I’m scared to leave the house in case I can’t make it anywhere without soaking through my clothes.

Cheetocat · 26/03/2024 00:22

@Ebonythoughts So sorry you're going through all of that. I have anemia too and had an iron infusion when my baby was a week old, it took a week for me to actually feel the difference but I felt brand new, you'll feel so much better when it kicks in.

msp2023 · 26/03/2024 08:09

@Ebonythoughts ahhh sounds horrible. Hope it all gets sorted soon lovely 💗

I'm dealing with potentially infected stitches - been in agony for the past two weeks or so. Was hoping it would get better but last few days have been unbearable. 8 week check with GP tomorrow so hope it gets resolved quickly. Struggling to walk / stand for long periods of time and it's really impacting my day to day life. Feeling quite crap and useless. :(

On another note, what time do you ladies put baby down for first stretch of sleep at night?
We've been starting eve routine at 9.30ish and she goes down 10.30-11. It's 8am and she's still asleep (with one wake up to feed at 4am). Wondering if I should start bedtime earlier! Yesterday she didn't wake for the day until 10am!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/03/2024 08:32

@Ebonythoughts that's horrible, hope you're okay and feel better after the iron infusion.

@msp2023 if they're infected, definitely see if you can start on antibiotics today. My stitches re-opened very slightly after having to lift my heavy toddler, and over the last few days part of the wound became red and sore and swollen. Is that what you have? Called my GP yesterday and she prescribed me antibiotics to pick up from the pharmacy that morning, even though I have my six week check with her tomorrow. Just because apparently it's important to get on them asap to prevent it spreading

I’m still being led by my 7 week old, I can’t get him to take naps if he doesn’t want to at the moment. I’m using Huckleberry and going to try their sleep training recommendations from next week. Last night he just kept doing very short naps and finally went down at midnight until 5am, then up again at 9am. He’s having naps on me now between feeds.

msp2023 · 26/03/2024 10:27

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thank you! I did call and manage to get a last minute appt today (after initially being told there were no appts available.. funny that!) I played the baby card and said I couldn't take my newborn to urgent care and wait for hours!
Going to be seen soon so hoping this is the start to a full recovery. Never expected to be in so much pain 8 weeks after birth, really making me feel pants.

@redxlondon thank you for sharing! So nice to know what others are doing and how other babies are behaving 😊

HopeAndStrength · 26/03/2024 10:48

Glad you've been seen @Ebonythoughts and that you have an appointment @msp2023

My 7 week old usually goes to sleep about 7.30pm until 11pm ish, then has a feed and sleeps until 2am or 3am. His morning wake up is less consistent and can be anytime between 5am and 7am.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/03/2024 11:03

@msp2023 oh that's brilliant! Yes no appointments here also, so the GP looked at photos I sent and kindly sent me a prescription to the pharmacy. Hope yours goes okay and you can start on some sort of treatment!

Thewildthingsarewithme · 26/03/2024 11:17

@msp2023 seconding getting antibiotics asap, I’ve had an internal infection that I’ve been trying to ignore because I didn’t want to breastfeed on antibiotics and ended up with a really high temp/other fever symptoms at the weekend. Have been on the antibiotics a few days and didn’t realise how ill I had been feeling, you just get on with it but you’ll feel so much better once you’re being treated xxx

msp2023 · 26/03/2024 13:44

@Thewildthingsarewithme @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7

Thank you both! I was seen, GP said the stitches seem fine. There's granulation of tissue internally 😖 and she has given me a cream, antibiotics and advised applying salt water.

Hoping it heals up asap and I can walk and sit normally again!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/03/2024 14:19

@msp2023 what's the granulation? How often did they say to apply the salt water, and how? Mine feels worse after the antibiotics (don't think they've taken effect yet)

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/03/2024 14:20

@Thewildthingsarewithme sorry you've been feeling so poorly. Glad you're on the mend

msp2023 · 26/03/2024 14:36

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 It's overhealing of tissue apparently. God knows how that makes any sense. TMI but I have a bright red fleshy thing sticking out of me down there 😖😖😖Been told to apply as much as possible - 1tbs of salt in 1tbs water, put on a cotton pad and hold to the area for 5 mins. Can also put inside of a pad to hold it in place. Then let it air dry completely.

Angelslookingafterus · 26/03/2024 15:52

Try tea tree oil in the bath really good for healing after child birth x

anony1111 · 26/03/2024 17:12

Does anyone else's little one scream blue murder in the car seat 😩 it's so stressful hearing him cry!
Any tips? Will he eventually get used to it? I dread going in the car as he gets so worked up, it's awful 😔

msp2023 · 26/03/2024 17:13

@Angelslookingafterus thank you for the tip!

@anony1111 have you tried attaching a toy to the car seat handle? My little girl loves staring at it! It has primary colours and little drop down attachments.

RachLeeds · 26/03/2024 19:20

@anony1111 - I saw a tip that said make sure the baby grow/nappy is looser than normal, as it can feel too uncomfortable for them when they’re already confined tightly in the car seat. Also, baby might be cold so you could try pre-heating the car and there’s a song called “The Happy Song” on iTunes/Spotify that you can try playing. I think they just get used to it though. Good luck!! 🤞

Thank you so much for the replies.

She last had a poop at 5 weeks and 4 days - But she finally pooped yesterday after almost 5 days!

I contacted the healthcare visitors and they told me to continue with tummy massage and bicycle legs, and baths.
As my baba is EFB fed they'd only advise 30ml of boiled and cooled water if she were on formula. They said to contact the GP is she's not pooped in 10 days.

Hope this is helpful for other mamas

Thewildthingsarewithme · 26/03/2024 20:42

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thank you ❤️ glad to hear you’re also recovering, it’s horrible when you think you’re through it all and you’ve got your lovely little baby and then something like this makes you feel like you’re going backwards! Xx

anony1111 · 26/03/2024 22:45

@msp2023 @RachLeeds thank you so much, will give these suggestions a try. I never thought about the nappy being tighter when in the car seat but makes sense. I always think they look so uncomfortable in car seats anyway.
Hopefully will make him happier 🙏🏼
