Hi all, hope you don't mind me adding to this thread. I had my LG on the 22nd Feb, she's my 2nd baby and I'm finding it surprisingly ok so far. My first had horrendous colic between weeks 2-12 ish so I was expecting the same this time however we've now passed the 4 week mark and she's been very settled most of the time so far. Mad how all babies are so different. Just wanted to add my experience of colic, when she was a baby my first hardly ever napped during the day. She'd get so overtired and by evening she'd be inconsolable, as a first time mum I was clueless about wake windows and napping so just assumed she's put herself to sleep when she was tired like she had done in the first couple of weeks. Obviously, this wasn't the case so eventually I figured out that she actually needed to sleep a lot sooner after waking than I thought. The first wake window of the day is the shortest and if they're getting overtired you've missed it by a long shot. I found that when I watched her really closely and she gave any indication of being tired like eye or ear rub I'd bring her upstairs and get her to nap, could be 45 mins to an hour after waking up so a lot sooner than I thought, this made the rest of the day a lot easier but I definitely had to watch closely for her cues but getting her to nap within her wake windows helped me so much. Just thought I'd share in case anyone is having a similar issue, I wish I'd known this sooner so feel like this time around everything is a lot easier.

What techniques did you use to get her to nap?
I’m same as other poster, my little one can go 5 hours without sleeping!! He’s only 6 weeks old but want to start really trying to get into a nap routine soon, and he gets so overtired but nothing seems to work other than milk and him tiring himself out.

redxlondon · 24/03/2024 09:35

*when I say 5 hours - he’ll do little cat naps on me after feeding but it’s sometimes when I move him he’ll wake

Soapdeck · 24/03/2024 10:01

@redxlondon I can't 100% remember haha I think I blocked a lot of that period out of my memory. I know that it was a lot easier to get her to fall asleep once I was paying attention to her sleepy cues, if I missed them and she got overtired it was impossible to get her to sleep. I reckon I used a combination of bringing her upstairs, turning the light off, rocking her and playing white noise. Once we figured out her colic was a lot worse on days she got overstimulated we kept her home and limited any visitors which definitely helped, once she passed the 3 month mark she just grew out of it and I used to being her for walks to get her to nap later on in the day but always made sure that she had that first nap at home and it was always quite soon after we got up in the morning. As the day went on her windows increased and the time between last nap and bedtime was the longest.

RachLeeds · 24/03/2024 10:04

Things that work for me nap wise if baby won’t drift off after a feed, or with dummy/shushing/rocking:

  • vacuuming - the louder the better 🤣
  • putting him in a pram suit and into the pram, sometimes he’s asleep before I’ve even started walking but if not, he will 100% sleep in the pram. It works every time.
  • Car drive if I’m desperate and just want to get out of the house for my own sanity!!
redxlondon · 24/03/2024 10:12

Thanks. The pram always works for me too, to the extent he just won’t wake up so I get nervous about him oversleeping if I’m out for a while!

novamama · 24/03/2024 16:18

Ladies, especially BF mamas - we talked about baby poop a while back and I was previously told by a paediatrician that up to 10 days of no poop is still acceptable but - my little one is 6 weeks today hasn't pooped in 3 days and it absolutely freaks me out. She's passing wind just no poop at all. She's eating so much too, I am terrified of how much can her tummy hold/ pain she must be in. She's straining so much bless her; but only gas come out.

Any similar stories?

Kirstylvsya · 24/03/2024 17:12

Those that are formula feeding, how much was your 6/7 week old drinking per feed/day? And sleeping at night?

Meeting · 24/03/2024 18:46

@Kirstylvsya 4-5 ounces every 3-4 hours through the day and then one night feed

RachLeeds · 24/03/2024 19:57

@Kirstylvsya I’m having a bit of a mare with feeding tbh - baby is 6 weeks today/bottle fed. Baby is a sucker and acts constantly starved but spits up loads if I feed him 4-5oz in one go, so I have to feed the equivalent amount but little and often if that makes sense. Although he can go 4 hours without wanting anything. Basically he’s fed on demand but without allowing him to over feed as he just sucks whatever is in his mouth and doesn’t stop! He’s up twice in the night for feeds at 12.30/3.30-ish.

Hi all,

I’m 5 weeks postpartum, and my postpartum bleed stopped a few days ago and then 2 days ago I got my first period but it’s been extremely heavy flow with clots. I had a c-section and was on blood thinning injections for 6 weeks but I stopped it when my period started because my period blood was so thin as well as heavy so was soaking through everything.

I’m calling 111 now because it’s day 3 and I’m bleeding so heavily that I’ve going through a pad every 45-50 mins and I’m constantly changing my clothes and I’m feeling super lightheaded now.

Has anyone had this before? Its really quite scary.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 24/03/2024 20:06

You know where we'd call if something was wrong whilst pregnant @Ebonythoughts I believe you can call them for things like that postnatal too, cos I remember when I was in for reduced movement 1 time. A lady in the other cubicle was in for bleeding. So maybe try them x

Hopefully you’ve got through to 111 but if not please go to hospital. You’ll be absolutely fine but your doctor should have told you if you bleed through a pad within an hour and pass multiple clots this will need urgent care.

Ebonythoughts · 24/03/2024 20:47

@CheeseAndCrackersx i contacted them and they said because it’s heavy menstrual bleeding and not postpartum to contact 111 or GP.

Just waiting to hear back from dr now x

He’s 6.5 weeks, and been on 150mls for a week or two, he’s finishing the bottles so may need to increase soon, but he’s also been bringing a lot up today. It’s so upsetting when they do.

Ps. Not every feed, I’d say about half, increasing proportion where he finishes the 150mls.

Call them back and ask to speak to someone more senior. If you’re only 5 weeks postpartum then I’m guessing you haven’t been discharged yet (had your 6 week check and discharged from midwife). Report whoever told you to wait - if it’s as you describe that’s unfuckingbelievable

Mine went 3 days, and then the most almighty poo was had. Your little one will be fine, but call doctor tomorrow if they haven’t been.
Have you tried giving them a bit (30mls max) of cooled boiled water? This is what midwife recommended for mine.

No I haven’t had my 6 week appointment yet but I really don’t have the energy to challenge it right now. I’ll wait to hear from the Dr and see what I need to do. My husband and and sister are both here so I have someone to take me in if needed and someone to look after little one x

You described a PPH, which is critical, not suggesting you challenge just for the sake of complaining but your own health. If it’s not as bad as you describe in terms of bleeding through pad and feeling dizzy then yes you can wait…but seems odd to post on here. I mean this kindly as was just trying to advise you based on midwife / NHS advice I had. If it’s slowed then that’s great.

Sunshineclouds11 · 24/03/2024 21:33

@Ebonythoughts I'd be inclined to ring MAU for advise tbh.
I'm sure I was told I could ring them for so many weeks post birth.

@novamama is your baby older than six weeks? If so, and if EBF, it's normal for them to go more days between poos as they can extract nearly all the nutrition from it. You don't need to give them water or any laxatives. www.nct.org.uk/baby-toddler/your-babys-health/what-watch-out-for/constipation-babies-qa

I remember how weirded out I was with my first, and he seemed to flip from pooing several times a day, to not going for almost a week.
