I noticed the other thread was full and have started a new one.

Lovely to hear of everyone’s 20 week scans. Thanks to those of you who gave me a list of baby essentials, very helpful!

Hope you’re all doing well!

I’m really struggling with boys names. We had a few girls names picked out but there are no boys names that we love. Luckily my partner and I are on the same page that we prefer traditional names, hopefully that will narrow it down!

I fell down the rabbit hole of Dr Google last night and regret it. At my scan yesterday I was told I have a low lying placenta, completely covering internal OS. Looks like my holiday to Tenerife in a couple weeks will need to be cancelled due to risk of bleeding 😢

Has anyone had a low lying placenta/placenta previa in previous pregnancies or this pregnancy?

OP posts:
CB2805 · 29/02/2024 09:53

@Oatmilktea i was diagnosed with low lying placenta covering os at 16w after some heavy bleeding. Although I had 2 more scans since then including a cervical length one which is internal and both sonographers said that placenta is not covering os but is still low?
so either it moved (which i really hope for) or it was never covering os?

I’m waiting for next week 20w scan to confirm.

having so many scans already for various reasons I realized there is lots of room for error or things are changing rapidly at this stage.

Oatmilktea · 29/02/2024 09:58

Thanks @CB2805, sorry to hear you had heavy bleeding that must have been scary. I’m glad to hear it’s since moved a bit!

I had an ultrasound at 16 weeks which didn’t detect anything. I then had a very light bleed at 17 weeks so went to maternity assessment but wasn’t scanned (probably because it was the weekend).

I suppose it’s just a waiting game to see my consultant on Monday for her opinion and to then be re-scanned at 32 weeks!

OP posts:
CB2805 · 29/02/2024 10:06

@Oatmilktea my consultant was very reassuring about placenta migrating later on - I think she mentioned only 1 in 10 won’t move till 32w so hope everything turns out well for you🫶🏻
such a bummer tho losing your holiday in Tenerife😞I bet it was a well needed break. Have u thought potentially planning some time away around UK instead?

Oatmilktea · 29/02/2024 10:28

@CB2805 we were very much looking forward to it after 14-15 weeks of debilitating nausea 😭. I’ll see what the consultant says on Monday and will also see if we get our money back from the insurance. We are due to move house around the beginning of April so perhaps it’s a sign to just stay home and pack 😂. Glad to hear the stats are in my favour for it moving though!

Morning all! 20w scan done, a weight lifted! Everything where it should be and looking “of no concern”

I don’t know if this means we won’t get to have any more scans between now & the due date? I totally forgot to ask!

I didn’t get a green book! I’ve got badger notes app instead, I’ll have a look through there and see!

bringmearainbow · 29/02/2024 12:01

@Cattattack I was told we get a growth scan at 36 weeks as standard now. I don't know if that's a nationwide thing or just my trust though

bringmearainbow · 29/02/2024 12:09

We have picked a name for a boy and a girl did think we wouldn't get there but we agreed eventually 😂

Cattattack · 29/02/2024 12:34

Yes just did some reading up, our trust doesn't offer a 36 week scan unless something justifies it! Guess that's the last time we'll see our little bean now!

AimeeLou84 · 29/02/2024 13:17

@Cattattack Awww I’m quite happy I’m considered a geriatric mum I get to see her a few more times yet. Tbf even if I didn’t I’d book a private lol

CMRC17 · 29/02/2024 18:02

Hi @Oatmilktea i was also told my placenta was very slightly low at my 20 week scan, so the sonographer has booked me in for another appointment at 36 weeks to check where it is. She said it was nothing to be concerned about and that it just might mean I need a c section. I’m not very clued up on these things but it sounded fine - I’m not sure if it’s more strict if your placenta is very low though.

I am also really struggling for boys names, I had a list of over 20 girls names and only about 4 boys names! There is one my partner and I do like but none that we absolutely love. I wanted a slightly unique name and I feel like that’s harder to find for a boy.

Amberellaella · 29/02/2024 18:49

Well, we thought we’d chosen a slightly unique name for DD (Evelyn), turns out everyone else did the same and there’s tons of them now 😂 I figure she can go my her middle name (Leila) if she doesn’t like it when she’s older.

Also struggling with a name for this little boy. We’re going through this pampers 1000 boys names thing and already at number 450 with no clear winner…

Morningcoffeeaddict · 01/03/2024 08:20

@Amberellaella - Evelyn is a beautiful name! We struggle with girls names in that there’s loads we like. Boys we can’t agree at all - DS is Wren which was on a list of unisex names somewhere and since he was only 2lb born it suited him (and continues to suit him) but he’s definitely the only one we’ve known (except the Dr character on Pretty Little Liars -ha!). If this one is another boy I honestly don’t know how we’ll decide on a name

missmoosh · 01/03/2024 09:01

@Morningcoffeeaddict oo we had a few boys names before we found out we were having a girl! We had Theo (considered Theodore, but DH wasnt sold on the full version), noah and elliot. Not sure if they are to your taste at all!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 01/03/2024 09:04

@missmoosh - my two best friends have an Elliot and a Theo (which is quite a popular name around us it seems). I really loved Noah for DS but DH isn’t keen for some reason - I keep adding it to lists to see if he’ll forget he didn’t like it (and he keeps doing the same with his choices that I don’t like) but neither of us have cracked yet! Us struggling to agree is very much a large part of the problem!

Surprisedbuthappy · 01/03/2024 09:27

Hi again everyone! 👋🏻
I lost track for a while and have just found the new thread and caught up with you all!

This is my first baby and I'm an older first-time mum - turned 39 in December. @Amberellaella I'm really interested in your experience of having your first at a similar age and now your second! Have you found it harder than you expected? Have you found it easy to make friends with other new mums?

I'm now 20+4 and still waiting for my 20-week scan, which is on Monday. I did have a private scan at 17 weeks and we found out it's a boy! 🩵

Surprisedbuthappy · 01/03/2024 09:31

Oh, also, I think we've chosen a name as it's the only one we both love, but there are couple of others we like on a reserve list as I don't want to confirm the name until he's here and I've seen his face!

missmoosh · 01/03/2024 10:45

@Morningcoffeeaddict ahhh that's a shame! Also hilarious you both keep sneaking names back on to list 😂😂

Oatmilktea · 01/03/2024 10:48

Love that you sneak names back on the list @Morningcoffeeaddict 😂

I’ve started looking at the list of essentials people suggested on the last thread to figure out what we need to buy.

One thing I’m clueless about is what to dress baby in for the first few weeks due to him being a summer baby? I’m in Scotland so doubt the weather will be too hot but just want to be prepared!

OP posts:
missmoosh · 01/03/2024 11:49

@Oatmilktea i am also very confused by this same thing! Especially what they should sleep in?!
Last summer my house ended up being over 30 degrees! It was insanely hot and really not pleasant as an adult who could do something to cool myself down when needed, so I'm panicking about it, as they say cold babies cry, hot babies die 😩

bringmearainbow · 01/03/2024 12:54

We bought a air conditioning unit for my sons room a couple of years ago and it's been fantastic at keeping his room lovely and cool the past 2 summers. We have suffered in our room however 😂 might tell hubby to get another one for our room this year

justanotherlaura · 01/03/2024 14:05

We had an autumn baby last time so he was bigger by summer but I go by this for deciding what to put him in depending on the weather. We bought an air conditioning unit right at the end of summer last year, hope that helps keep them both cooler this year
