I noticed the other thread was full and have started a new one.

Lovely to hear of everyone’s 20 week scans. Thanks to those of you who gave me a list of baby essentials, very helpful!

Hope you’re all doing well!

@Amberellaella I struggle with length of swimsuits too but find the extra bump space of a maternity one is useful. I have no idea what brand the one I have is because I got it off vinted during my first pregnancy

AnonymousXXIX · 27/02/2024 13:01

I just wear a bikini?

Morningcoffeeaddict · 27/02/2024 13:53

Got to my early morning scan appointment today to find out they’ve cancelled it and didn’t tell me they had. Quite annoyed as obviously DH and I both took time off work and DS had slept at my in laws as the appointment was so early and then was tired and out of routine being dropped off late for preschool all for no real reason. Sonographer was really rude about it too like it was somehow my fault I hadn’t been told the scan was cancelled.

Had an embarrassing cry about it all so a midwife took pity on me and checked baby’s heartbeat which was all fine. Booked a private gender scan for the weekend now to make up for it and we’ll take DS along which will hopefully be fun for him.

Morningcoffeeaddict · 27/02/2024 13:54

@Amberellaella i think I got one from asos in my last pregnancy that was adjustable (although that means lots of straps) but can’t say how good it really was with a bump as covid cancelled the holiday we had booked so didn’t end up wearing it until I was about a year postpartum.

AnonymousXXIX · 27/02/2024 14:19

@Morningcoffeeaddict I would have cried too! We had lots of these sort of admin mistakes when we were still pursuing IVF ICSI and it was absolutely devastating to look forward to an appointment for x weeks or months, and then re-arrange our schedules to get to some hospital we'd never heard off, and then be told on arrival it had been cancelled weeks before. Once we were not allowed to re-schedule as a 'punishment' for having missed an appointment (that we had not been told had been moved)...! And calling ahead did not always work either because they did not always give phone numbers for the right departments and people never understood what we were asking about. Anyway rant over, just wanted to say I really empathise :(

Morningcoffeeaddict · 27/02/2024 14:39

@AnonymousXXIX - thank you! It is just so frustrating, especially when the department just say “it was cancelled a month ago why didn’t you know?” And there’s no way you possibly could have known. Apparently it’s because fetal medicine are going to do the scan in a few weeks but I’d been told they were just looking at the placenta (preeclampsia reasons) so it never occurred to me their appointment would override the normal 20week scan. Sounds like both departments assumed the other one would tell me today’s appointment was cancelled so neither did - so disorganised!

Ive got two appointments on the same day in a few weeks, one of which says “if you have another appointment on the same day just got to that one” and I’m terrified I’ll just show up for that and get a slap on the wrist for not having appeared for the other one now!

I feel awful for you it happened repeatedly - especially with IVF you’d think they’d be more sensitive!

justanotherlaura · 27/02/2024 14:42

I had a speedo maternity swimsuit and it fitted me fine right up to my last swim a few weeks before birth. I'm wearing it again this pregnancy

Didn't want anything fancy, just a big standard swimsuit, it does the job :)

Amberellaella · 27/02/2024 15:38

Ooh thanks @justanotherlaura, bizarrely I hadn’t thought of trying an actual swimsuit brand.

It’s for doing swimming lessons with DD not for training, and I usually prefer a bit more support, but maybe my boobs are so ginormous now they’ll stay up on their own 😂

ceruleansky · 27/02/2024 17:27

@Morningcoffeeaddict
Sorry you had to go through that. Is there a way you can call and confirm your appointment before hand? Just so that it doesn't happen again.

18 weeks today and starting to feel dull aches and pains down there. Some pressure too. I have a check up this weekend.

Morningcoffeeaddict · 27/02/2024 18:01

@ceruleansky - I have tried a couple of times to call but no one ever seems to answer. I’ll keep my fingers crossed about getting through to someone though. The next one is where my consultant is based and I have open access so I can at least see her so it isn’t a wasted trip if it does happen again!

Hope your check up goes well at the weekend!

What a great idea! I can’t believe how fast this pregnancy’s going, July will be here before we know it😬

Amberellaella · 27/02/2024 18:38

I had my first consultant appt today and she suggested that we definitely want baby to come before the due date because I am old.

Is that why some of you have ‘not being allowed past 39 weeks’ e.g. @Nocoffeenotalkie? We’re going to decide nearer the time, but in general she recommended that we start with a sweep probs around 39 weeks and see how we go.

Julymumtobe · 27/02/2024 19:01

Just adding on. Emojis are funny for me too so apologies if I’ve done it wrong.

20 week scan today and baby was healthy and growing nicely. I feel baby fairly regularly now and movements are getting stronger which is exciting. Physically I still feel fairly rubbish-
exhausted and severe trapped wind/ bloating. But just trying to rest as much as I can.

Nocoffeenotalkie · 27/02/2024 19:10

@Amberellaella yes, I will be 42 when baby arrives so I was told not past 39 weeks by my consultant.

Having seen the midwife since and talked with her, I am going to refuse induction and choose ELC (I had an emergency c-section after a very long labour with DD1) However, if I go into labour by myself before 39 weeks, I will ask them leave me be. I will try for VBAC. I just want to be awake when this baby is delivered. This is my only other chance. It took 11 years to fall with a second DC. I don't want to miss the birth again. I felt so disconnected waking and being handed a baby I didn't know whose she was after it all.
I will be consultant led not in the midwife led area so I was told they will site an epidural that I can have control over (so can be walking/mobile) and if it comes to it, I can be awake for a C-section. The midwife said GA sections rarely happen there but who knows...
Happy to have a sweep. I had one with DD1 at 41+2 which got things going.

BananaHammock23 · 27/02/2024 19:13

@Amberellaella I had a really hard time finding maternity swimsuits that don't have a stupidly low back. I just wanted something that covered as much as possible! Ended up with this one which I love. It's not the most flattering but it's comfy and fits the growing bump well! I swim for fitness so don't really care what it looks like:

Oatmilktea · 27/02/2024 19:36

It’s not somewhere I would usually shop but Shein have been great for maternity swimsuits! I have booked a holiday to Tenerife in March so panic bought a load of summer maternity clothes from there and have to say I’m impressed!

Amberellaella · 27/02/2024 20:10

@Nocoffeenotalkie thanks. I’ll be 42 as well, she didn’t mention an ELC, maybe because I’ve never had one before. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, hopefully things have moved on a bit since then.

DD came naturally at 39+5 so maybe I make babies that are ready early and the sweep at 39 will work 😂

I had a mobile epidural with her and would recommend it. I could move about as normal - albeit dragging an IV - and it took away the pain well enough for me to have a little sleep. Desperately needed after labouring overnight at home.

ceruleansky · 28/02/2024 07:07

@Morningcoffeeaddict
That's good news, I hope your consultant appointment gives you some reassurance. That sonographer didn't have to be so rude. 😕

I've caught a cold. I was asked to be very careful about this. I haven't really been out anywhere, except to get my progestin shot. Does anyone have any quick home remedy for this? I want to avoid medicines. I've had hot water, gargled, had soup.
Also for the first time, I felt the baby kick 4 times! 🥰

Morningcoffeeaddict · 28/02/2024 07:21

@Amberellaella - in my case the 39 weeks is because I have a history of preeclampsia. My son was born at 28weeks as my BP was proving to be uncontrollable and my liver and kidneys were starting to struggle. Preference in my case for not waiting too long I believe is to minimise the stress on my body and the risk of it developing towards the end or postpartum if we’ve managed to control it that long. Similarly elective section instead of induction is to minimise stress on the body in my case.

@Nocoffeenotalkie - I was awake for my section, I think it’s more common to be awake than not. I’ve certainly heard they usually try to avoid GA (for the baby rather than for us). I had a spinal so I wasn’t mobile but I was awake for everything including DS being presented for my husband to announce as a boy as soon as he came out and then the nicu team brought him over for a kiss and so I could see before they wizzed him away for their bit. I think he’d have just been given to me if we’d been further along.

@ceruleansky - I’ve got a cold as well. Rest, hot honey & lemon and saline spray (the stuff that’s safe for newborns) all help make you more comfortable without being medication but don’t cure anything really. I haven’t been anywhere either and DS and DH are both fine so it hasn’t come from them!

Savvy21 · 28/02/2024 07:58

Adding on - still can't believe that I'm this far and it looks like I might be having this baby. Just wishing away the time to July but I really should be enjoying it a bit more.

@Morningcoffeeaddict@ceruleansky I also have a cold/cough - could be covid I guess? But the coughing at night is a nightmare so I empathise! Honey and lemon is doing nothing haha!

@Morningcoffeeaddict @Savvy21
Hope you both get better soon.

I've never had covid before so I don't know what it feels like. But I also don't think I have it, seems like a common flu. I had a dry nose and throat for a few days but it went away, I thought I came out of it but I couldn't sleep last night and the cold came with a vengeance. Nobody in my house is sick either.

User491 · 28/02/2024 09:20

Sorry to hear so many of you have a bad cold. I had one for weeks in January!

I used Vicks and the saline nose spray, really helped me, not nice at all though. Hope you all feel better soon 🤞🏻

Morningcoffeeaddict · 28/02/2024 09:39

@ceruleansky @Savvy21 - I have had Covid a couple of times (including about 3weeks pregnant just before I found out) and I’m confident it’s not what I have now. This feels more like a common cold - all congested and sneezy and the sore throat is caused by how snotty and disgusting I am I think. Most of my clients are getting the camera off experience on our Teams meetings at the moment!

Cattattack · 28/02/2024 10:52

Hope all you lovely ladies get well soon ❤
