I noticed the other thread was full and have started a new one.

Lovely to hear of everyone’s 20 week scans. Thanks to those of you who gave me a list of baby essentials, very helpful!

Hope you’re all doing well!

If you all want reassurance for not feeling ready…all our bedrooms are currently stripped bear ready for plastering and skirting over the next couple weeks 😅

my husband and I are currently sleeping in the loft till I’m about 34 weeks! Not ideal 😂we can’t buy furniture as there’s just no room until we can move back in!

glasshalffull0 · 24/04/2024 20:25

Our baby’s room is currently in a transition of being my getting ready room/baby storage so it’s a mess! We’re hoping to get it cleared and painted in the next few weeks- one less thing to worry about when she’s here

I don’t have my hospital bag packed yet and I’m nearly 31 weeks. I’ll probably start adding a few bits soon so if she does come early and my partner has to pick up some bits he’ll already have a half packed bag with some essentials that he would definitely forget

AnonymousXXIX · 25/04/2024 07:16

We haven't prepared a single thing lol. Still have the next to me and moses basket from last baby but not replacing the mattresses (controversial?!), still have the pram (although it's a bit taped together lol), and all the nappies (cloth). I really need to sort out bedroom furniture though. Don't have a changing table, don't have night stands (surprisingly essential), don't have storage baskets for the clothes, still need to deep clean my breast pumps and postpartum underwear... Help haha.

missmoosh · 25/04/2024 08:37

Hahaha nice to hear we all seem to be equally unprepared!! Planning on buying some bits for the hospital bag on the weekend, as the amazon baby wishlist discount kicks in then 😂😂

Busyhedgehog · 25/04/2024 10:13

Had my glucose tolerance test this week (it's routine here) and all looking good. 😊 Glad about it because I quite like my carbs at the moment.

We've got the changing table sorted (we are just putting a change mat on top of my old desk) and got some drawers and a little wardrobe. 0-3 months clothes are all washed and ready to go by now. My colleague is bringing our Next2Me back today and I've ordered a new mattress for it. I'm considering getting a new pump...perhaps one I can just shove in my bra. However, DS wasn't a fan of expressed milk and didn't want to be bottle fed at all, so it felt like a bit of a waste last time. I might wait with that one.

I haven't really sorted my hospital bag out, yet, but might do that in the next few weeks. Have organised a few bits for it but won't need as much since we get most things provided by the hospital.

Morningcoffeeaddict · 25/04/2024 10:20

@AnonymousXXIX - in fairly sure I read that if it’s for siblings you’re ok to reuse the mattresses on safe sleep guidelines. I need new because my husband turned the Moses one into a knee pad for the garden and the cot one was on its last legs but otherwise I’d reuse I think?

We got both second hand to begin with, for the last baby 😅 But they looked totally fine and barely used so we couldn't bare just getting rid of them, it seemed like such a waste.

bringmearainbow · 25/04/2024 11:33

@AnonymousXXIX I'm not buying a new mattress either pretty sure I read the same as @Morningcoffeeaddict if mattress has been used for siblings it's ok.

Sophie3003 · 25/04/2024 12:07

I just had a look as this is my second baby and had wondered re mattresses. Lullaby trust says a new mattress for each baby and NHS says outside of household new mattress but can reuse if same family and kept, clean, dry, waterproof protector etc

Morningcoffeeaddict · 25/04/2024 12:14

@Sophie3003 - nothing like a bit of conflicting advice! I’m sure you can’t win with parenting. Our Moses basket and pram mattresses were both only used a handful of times, getting a new one for each baby (if they haven’t been repurposed by husbands in between times) seems potentially excessive - I’d lean towards the NHS guidance on that one - although they usually say “see lullaby trust guidance” just to make it more confusing!

bringmearainbow · 25/04/2024 12:17

It's all very confusing on what to do 🙈

Yup! babies room is currently stripped back to plaster and my one purchase (next to me cot and some sleepsuits) are under some dust sheets! eek!
It isn't even strictly babies room and we will hopefully be moving next year! Feeling the pressure and guilt that we don't have a perfect nursery but need to accept it will all be ok and it's all a work in progress! ☺️

Amberellaella · 25/04/2024 14:10

Well, they’re in with you for the first six months so there’s no need to get ‘their’ room ready straight away.

You have all motivated me to try and get the baby stuff out of the loft this weekend though… And interesting re: the recommendation for new mattresses.

Welshgal85 · 25/04/2024 17:22

26+4 here and FTM so it’s all new to me! Haven’t really bought anything yet apart from some clothes! Some lovely friends are giving us some stuff they no longer need so just need to buy and pram/car seat and next2me.

We’re not planning to do much to the nursery until DD is here seeing as she won’t be sleeping in there for atleast 6 months. Getting some furniture for her clothes but will get a crib nearer the time she needs it.

What does everyone use as a hospital bag? I’ve seen some people take suitcases, makes me wonder how much I need to take! Will probably start packing one at about 35 weeks all being well

Oatmilktea · 25/04/2024 17:26

Unfortunately back in hospital with another bleed thanks to my placenta previa. Luckily it wasn’t too heavy but I’m being kept in for 24 hours for obs. They inserted a cannula in case I have a heavier bleed and need a blood transfusion, I’ve never felt pain like it in my life!!!

I feel very unorganised and still need a few big bits for baby (next to me, baby monitor, new Moses basket mattress, possibly prep machine) and there’s a chance if I have another bleed I’ll be kept in hospital until baby comes. I really need to get organised just in case.

@Hoping4amiracle how are you doing? I’ve been thinking of you!

@MummyBear2519 I hope you and the twins are doing well?

@Welshgal85 I have a sort of sports bag (RyanAir travel size) that I use, but that's primarily because the cloth nappies take up a lot of space, otherwise I would probably be okay with a backpack! Not that I have packed the hospital bag yet haha, and probably won't until it's time to go either (my last labour was over 50 hours so it would be a good scenario for me if this one's under 24 lol). Most things I am bringing will be for after: something easy to breastfeed in, small toiletry bag, nipple cream and breast pumps, a book, a camera haha. I don't remember at all what I actually found essential during labour. I was naked, and ate an apple, I think.😂

Morningcoffeeaddict · 25/04/2024 20:53

@Welshgal85 - I’ve got a sort of sports bag / weekend bag too. Like @AnonymousXXIX most of my stuff is for after - I’ve been told we’ll be in for 48hours for monitoring after the section so toiletries / comfy breastfeeding clothes and nipple cream etc to last a couple of days / clothes and nappies for baby. I’m having another section so for delivery they’ll just give me a hospital gown from memory

Sophie3003 · 25/04/2024 21:38

I had a section last time so my bag was different but I had so much stuff I just didn't use! Need to rethink this time!

CB2805 · 25/04/2024 22:44

Hello ladies just a little update from me and my twinnies. We went into an emergency c section at 1:30am as I started hemorrhaging from my placenta. They tried their best to keep babies in as long as possible but unfortunately it was time for them to come out!
my little girl is doing better than my little boy and we just hope and pray for the best outcome🤞🙏
both twinnies came out crying so that’s reassuring but it’s a scary NICU time with ups and downs and it’s too early to see any outcome but they’ve been reassuring.

ps: I have nothing ready yet either lots of bibs and bobs missing but with the long stay I know i will have time to prepare everything!
so don’t worry ladies and I really really hope for a healthy full term for the rest of you❤️❤️

Savvy21 · 26/04/2024 06:33

@CB2805 wow that must've been quite scary. Congratulations - sending strength and best wishes to your family.

Morningcoffeeaddict · 26/04/2024 06:48

@CB2805 - congratulations on the arrival of the twinnies, great news they came out shouting. Sending lots of love for the nicu journey, hope both babies have more ups than downs in there.

Oatmilktea · 26/04/2024 07:05

@CB2805 that sounds so scary for you. Congratulations on the arrival of your twins! Wishing them all the best 🩷🩵. Were you already in hospital when you began haemorrhaging? Am I right in saying you had placenta previa? I hope you’re doing ok and looking after yourself 💕

Gosh @CB2805 that sounds scary. But congratulations on the birth of your babies!

Amberellaella · 26/04/2024 07:37

@CB2805 congratulations! Glad both twinnies are safely here and being looked after by NICU. Will be thinking of you all x

missmoosh · 26/04/2024 09:45

@Oatmilktea sorry to hear you have to go back into hospital due to bleed. Hopefully this is the last one and you don't need to be kept in again for any longer. For now though your in the best place.

@CB2805 wow congratulations on the arrival of your twins! Thinking of you and your family must be a worrying time for you all ❤️
