Seems we got to the end of a thread. Not sure if a new one has been set up.

I’m thinking of a home birth as first baby was very quick, but they are regularly suspended here because of lack of midwives.

Yeah that's the problem in hospitals too. A friend of mine was left alone in a room for 5 hours without being checked on once... scary time to be giving birth.

SELE97 · 06/03/2024 19:21

How are you calculating how far along you are? I've been going off my ovulation day which I think was the 8th Feb which makes me 5 weeks 6 days but if I go off my LMP I'm 7 weeks 3 days.

I have irregular periods so I think I trust my ovulation date more. However it was my first month of tracking ovulation in February so I'm a bit unsure, the Premom tests I used had peak and ovulation day as the 7th and 8th Feb, but the clear blue tests had peak days for 6th and 7th. I used the 8th Feb based off the symptoms I had at the time but still don't really know for sure.

Is ovulation day usually more accurate than LMP?

LuxeBiscuit · 06/03/2024 19:32

@SELE97 you calculate it by adding 2 weeks (14 days) to ovulation day. So you would start counting around 24th Jan if you ovulated on 7th Feb.

CluelessInLondon · 06/03/2024 19:57

@SELE97 I've been using LMP, which is what the NHS uses as well, although the NHS does tend to unhelpfully assume that everyone has 28 day cycles! The 12 week scan will date the pregnancy more accurately anyway.

Fullofconfusion · 06/03/2024 19:58

@JemRose @CluelessInLondon I’m around the same due date too. From my working out I’m 9+6 today. Although I had long cycles and not exactly sure when I ovulated as OPKs weren’t that clear so it’s just an educated guess. I have my booking appointment on Friday. No scans here yet so due date may change then.

I seem to have less pregnancy symptoms now than I started with. I’m still exhausted and emotional but my boobs were so painful and now they’re only slightly sore and I had a good bit of nausea which seems to have totally settled. I’d be worried but I remember this happening last time too. I turned up to my scan wondering if there was even a baby in there, which of course there was. So I’m just waiting nervously and excitedly for my scan date now

SELE97 · 06/03/2024 20:06

@CluelessInLondon yeah when I told the community midwife on the phone I just told her my ovulation date and she seemed fine with that. My cycles are anywhere from 17 to 52 days, so not sure I can trust it enough to date. These first few weeks are dragging so much, I'm quite certain on my dates based off ovulation but would be further along if I went with my LMP dates, im so impatient! 😂

@LuxeBiscuit ah okay thank you, so the dates I calculated should be right then.

WickWood · 06/03/2024 20:35

I have had a letter inviting me for my first NHS scan (had 3 private ones!) In 2 weeks, I'll be 12+1.
It says the scan/appointment can last for up to 3 hours?! It's my first baby, what should I expect? Is it just a scan?

Sara1988 · 06/03/2024 20:44

@WickWood I think it's more to do with having to wait/delays

mrssunshinexxx · 06/03/2024 20:50

Is anyone else really struggling with nausea? I'm grateful I'm not actually being sick but wow it's 24/7 I got prescribed cyclezine yesterday and thought it worked initially but today not helped at all and it's making me absolutely exhausted like scarily so had to wind down car window on pre school run as thought I was going to fall asleep!
No point to this I just want to moan I'm worried I don't feel mega excited either I think because it was a massive unplanned shock ...
I'm also just waiting like a ticking time bomb for my haemorrhoids to kick off ! My diet is awful I either feel starving so eat any beige stuff and sweets or I feel so so uncomfortable/ sick and full. I'm not usually a Debbie downer and I'll pick myself up tomottow but yeah it feels like a struggle and a long way til any relief right now. Would much rather be up feeding a baby on no sleep than any of this crap!

Eiremogra · 06/03/2024 21:06

@WickWood I’m kinda hoping my first appointment will be several hours tbh. My booking appointment is next week but it’s a ‘near me’ appointment - I had hoped my booking in appointment would include a thorough assessment/bloods etc. Like you, this is my first time and I don’t have a clue what to expect x

WickWood · 06/03/2024 21:08

@Sara1988 Ah, I see. Thanks!

@mrssunshinexxx Yes, I feel you! I've had horrific sickness and nausea for a good few weeks now. I had to take a week off work last week because I couldn't get out of bed, it's awful. I wonder if the nausea is making you feel not excited? I can relate to that, as pleased as I am, I've felt utterly horrific and quite low due to the sickness.

WickWood · 06/03/2024 21:12

@Eiremogra Hi, I had my booking appointment last week and they did take bloods, physical obs and asked a lot of questions, we were there for about 45 minutes I think, the letter said it could take up to 2 hours, depending on responses to questions etc. It's overwhelming isn't it, not knowing what to expect. X

aussiegirl89 · 06/03/2024 21:14

@mrssunshinexxx I am really badly. My nausea is so bad I've been vomiting after drinking water. It turns out I was dehydrated so I spent yesterday in hospital at a pregnancy day stay clinic to get IV fluids.

I don't quite have hyperemsis but on the verge. Now been prescribed a full regimen of medicine to try and help me through it. Praying it stops soon so I can enjoy this pregnancy 🙈🤕😓

Do they take bloods then and have you back again a couple of days later? Or no?

Gosh, I have been exhausted for a couple of weeks but today was unreal. I struggled getting through the whole school day and left before 4. I don't know how I'm going to get through parents evening in a couple of weeks, it goes until 8pm 😫

WickWood · 06/03/2024 21:49

@IsLarryFromSomething No, they take your bloods and a urine sample and contact you if something is wrong. I had a high white blood cell count in my urine so had to go back to repeat (still awaiting further contact) but if all is okay then they don't contact you, that's what mine said anyway!

LuxeBiscuit · 06/03/2024 21:51

@mrssunshinexxx sorry you're having a bad time. Hopefully the medication starts working soon. Have you tried sickness bands? I picked some up and whilst I still have nausea and sickness I think it's taking the edge off a bit.

@aussiegirl89 oh that's awful! Hoping it eases up soon.

IsLarryFromSomething · 06/03/2024 21:51

Oh thank you! That's good. I had a blood test on day 21 of my cycle so if this one shows up on the NHS app like that one it'll be interesting to see what has changed, if anything.

I had parents evening last week and I was OK on the night (adrenaline?) But wiped out the next day.

That's how I was pre pregnancy 🤣 I am in trouble. Might have to save my one coffee that day for the end of the day.

aussiegirl89 · 06/03/2024 22:47

@LuxeBiscuit thank you I do too. Praying it subsides in a couple of weeks! I've been prescribed a regimen of medication and one thing that's recommended and OTC is vitamin B6 - so if you have any nausea then this is a good natural place to start.

Today has started off well; I've been awake 3 hours and not thrown up yet 🤣👍🏼

LuxeBiscuit · 06/03/2024 23:32

@aussiegirl89 oh I've heard about B6. I'm going to see how the bands go for the next 2 days.

I'm usually physically sick in the evening but was sick first thing this morning as I was so hungry. I've just put some ginger biscuits by my bed lol.

Oct24 · 07/03/2024 00:39

@mrssunshinexxx I could have written this myself. It's awful and nothing like my first go around. The constipation is hellish! The extra progesterone I'm on isn't helping things either. I'm so bloated I look about 16 weeks along. I've had to dig my maternity jeans out and feel like such a fraud for wearing them this early but nothing else fits!

I'm just over 8 weeks now and hoping the heaving and feeling like I have washing machine in my stomach stops soon. Just want that lovely pregnancy glow all the apps and websites promise lol!

Yes really badly. This is my second week off already. I was prescribed cyclizine initially but same as you - it turned me into a zombie. I’m now on ondansetron, which is working a treat, just have to time it so you are taking it every 12 hours and the constipation is 🙈.
I’m looking forward to second trimester and no more sickness (hopefully!)

Wish I'd taken the next day off tbh

Itsasomething · 07/03/2024 10:57

Oh my! There's so much comfort in this group!
Came off as the combination of endless nausea/heightened smell/morning sickness/tiredness was getting me real down. And then the guilt because this is so wanted and I feel unable to complain.
Thankfully the GP has prescribed me something so hopefully will be able to have some relief.🙏
I'm convinced the real reason we don't tell people until 12 weeks is because people don't want to hear us being real about how hard this is.
