Seems we got to the end of a thread. Not sure if a new one has been set up.

Not so nervous about telling work, but nervous about how much I'll miss out on and what it might mean for my career. I'm hoping to take the full year and start back part time. It's a huge sacrifice, and either way feels like losing out.

mrssunshinexxx · 03/03/2024 15:21

@sansol I'll have 3, 4 and under . First 2 15 months apart this one will be just under 3 years gap x

Ditto. In the kind of job I do I have really close relations with very senior people due a consultancy role and the idea of someone coming in and taking those over or being better than me makes me feel really weird even at this early stage!

Age gaps for mine when baba is born:

2 years between DS and DD and 18 months between DD and D?

Took us 7 years, 4 rounds of fertility treatments, 2 rounds of ivf and 3 miscarriages to have DS then DD and this one just surprised us!
Wish my body had figured it out sooner, I'll be 40 in May 🙃

GiantRoadPuzzle · 03/03/2024 17:08

My age gap will be 3yr 10months. A bit more than we anticipated, but not much we could have done.

I moved jobs since having DS to a very male dominated team and have told one boss. I’m actually moving to a new boss in a couple of months, but she has young kids so think it might be easier.

ladycarlotta · 03/03/2024 17:39

hello all, do you mind if I join you? I'm due 1st of October and am 9w5d but have been dragging my feet due to a long history of miscarriage... I've decided I'd better start taking it seriously! I had a scan at 8w2d which showed a perfectly happy-seeming bean exactly where it was supposed to be with a lovely strong heartbeat.
I'm 36 and have a daughter who just turned 5. A much bigger age gap than I'd intended, but out of my hands.

Nervous764367 · 03/03/2024 17:50

I have 3 DC. They will be 5, 3 and 2 when this little one is due. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Nic2908 · 03/03/2024 18:27

@GiantRoadPuzzle i do often worry about how they transition from one to two when they are slightly older. As we were in the same thread with a DC I too am going to be 3 yrs 10 months

@CharlieBalf gosh fertility is bonkers isn't it! That's an amazing story!

@Nervous764367 beautiful chaos ✨

@Mitsky @GingerCactus I tested this morning to see if we are heading in the right direction and got 3+. Not feeling sick yet... I've had a bit of heartburn which I never get and I'm still thirsty so I think at the moment, these are my symptoms. We plan to do a scan in about a week.

Trifficult · 03/03/2024 19:58

@ladycarlotta I'm 37 and have a 4 (5 in June) ds. I think there's positives and negatives to the age gap but like you said can't change it now!

tryforbabynumber2 · 03/03/2024 20:00

My daughter will be almost 7 when this baby is born 🫢 We didn't expect to wait so long after our first, but we just haven't been ready for another until now xxx

IsLarryFromSomething · 03/03/2024 20:00

I think I'll tell work soon because they ask what type of medical appointment it is if you ask for leave. It will be the second time in a row that I'll have a medical appointment during school time the week before a school holiday (the previous one was a test to send to the infertility clinic so couldn't help the timing either). But I just found out a male colleague is becoming a father the month before so perhaps we can share a class and cover each other's parental leave next year.

Anyway I think October is perfect timing for mat leave because when I stop getting paid in July, I'll come back to work and then get paid for 6 weeks of the summer holiday, and I won't have to miss any of the following school year.

GiantRoadPuzzle · 03/03/2024 20:03

@Nic2908 i know what you mean, we’ve been working a LOT on sharing at nursery and he’s just one of those kids who likes his own games, his own toys and is fiercely independent.

Im hoping he’ll surprise us, but he’s got big emotions and sometimes struggles with his communication so it could be quite tough!

sansol · 03/03/2024 12:04

Any working second time mums nervous about letting work know they're pregnant? I returned in July and have recently been promoted into my old managers role. It's weighing on my mind. Due to go back on maternity leave in September, due 1st October.

Me! I've changed jobs since my first. I may have been up for promotion next year too. I worry about losing ground while I'm off 😢 I then feel guilty for feeling that way

Eiremogra · 03/03/2024 21:04

Hi all, I’m 7+4 weeks and have been having cramps on and off for about a week now. Has anyone else experienced this? It’s my first pregnancy so I’m totally clueless! I had a significant bleed/clot at 5 weeks so am constantly symptom spotting and overthinking ++. Is cramping just a normal part of early pregnancy or should I be worried/go to my Gp? Thanks all xx

GingerCactus · 03/03/2024 21:21

@FlyOnTheWall89 congrats on the 3+, I also got 3+ on Tuesday. Ooh heartburn isn’t fun but at least it’s a symptom!

We’ve had a bit of a weird one, we ended up driving an hour away to have an internal scan where they saw the gestational sac and measured at 5w3d however we thought we were 7w2d. They looked at all my dates for everything because I’m very irregular and have very long cycles (we’d already deducted a week off the ‘weeks pregnant’ date anyway because of this) but they looked at everything and they think 5w3d completely adds up and is accurate.

They’ve scheduled in another scan for next week to track progress but I just can’t help feeling it’s not good. But we just have to wait! I’ve not had any bleeding or cramps or anything so at the minute it’s just a waiting game!

I've had loads of cramping from the day I conceived. Never bad enough for pain killers but definitely not nice. Been told repeatedly that it's completely normal. Your uterus doubles in size withing 8 weeks

Nervous764367 · 03/03/2024 21:55

@FlyOnTheWall89 Ah, it does help with the anxiety when the 3+ shows. Glad it has for you.

I have caved and booked a private scan for Friday night. I should be 9w1d by then.
feeling very very very nervous about it. X

Eiremogra · 03/03/2024 22:01

Thanks @Sara1988, that’s reassuring to hear. Mine are the same, not painful enough for pain killers but not nice at all. Did your cramps continue or did they eventually stop?! x

Had some on/off this pregnancy but nothing unusual. My last pregnancy they were so bad I almost went to A&E twice. I'm not sure if it's not so bad this time because my uterus has been stretched once before or if it was bad digestion/trapped gas contributing to it last time. It was awful but perfectly normal.

Eiremogra · 03/03/2024 22:57

Thanks @lpylou - such a relief to hear this. Xx

Sara1988 · 04/03/2024 07:20

@Eiremogra still got them now and I'm 9+1

Joey2011 · 04/03/2024 09:51

I'm counting down the hours for my scan tonight at 7.30! 😁 I'm 7+3 today. I've also got a week off work, so looking forward to the rest.

Mitsky · 04/03/2024 09:57

I’ve been a bit crampy last night and this morning and while my logical head says it’s probably one of the symptoms I’m desperate to experience, my multiple miscarriage head goes THIS ONE IS LEAVING YOU TOO.

I wish I could jump ahead by a month or so!

Strawbs92 · 04/03/2024 10:08

I forgot to update on here after my scan on Friday.

We saw babies heartbeat and all is fine and measuring 6 weeks (i was only 6+3) but she was new and said baby growing as should be.

Couldn't find a cause for the bleeding but said its normal.
I did have a bit of blood last night and this morning, very faint so i am not too phased by it.

In regards to the other questions, i will have a 5 year age gap.
