Seems we got to the end of a thread. Not sure if a new one has been set up.

@CluelessInLondon oh thats good to know, I think I will be over 13+6 wks by the dating scan unfortunately. Hopefully they will be able to do the bloods earlier 🤞 thanks x

CluelessInLondon · 02/03/2024 18:11

@Ellenn Can you call your hospital and ask about having the scan and screening earlier? They are really meant to do it before you get to 14 weeks (although mine did say that if they had to they could still do the screening tests after that).

Ellenn · 02/03/2024 18:37

@CluelessInLondon thats the earliest date they had for me 🙄 I might ask if they have any cancellations if I could take one!

Blako90 · 02/03/2024 18:54

Had my early scan today! Measuring 8+3 which is what I thought I was 🥰

WickWood · 02/03/2024 19:00

@Ellenn
Yeah, I too had bloods at my booking appointment but the bloods were about me, ie iron levels etc, not about the baby. During the appointment they asked me if I wanted to opt into the screening tests, and they'll be done at a later date, at the actual scan. It's quite confusing remembering the timings!

Bee49 · 02/03/2024 20:33

@Ellenn the NHS give you a percentage chance of baby having the various chromosomal abnormalities. The harmony or NIPT test is much more accurate. I believe in some trusts they will go on to do the NIPT if you have a test result that’s high risk but I don’t think that’s everywhere yet.

OneSunnyFox · 02/03/2024 21:51

@Ellenn i got the same information as @Bee49 at my booking in. They told me they only do bloods in high risk pregnancies. If you aren’t deemed to be high risk, you don’t get them. My friends didn’t get them on the NHS, as their pregnancies were all deemed low risk/ normal. I’m going to press ahead and book them privately when I reach 10 weeks. I’d rather know earlier than after 12 weeks if something is wrong. It seems like a lot of money, but then I keep telling myself I’m probably going to spend double that on a pram - and this is about it’s health.

All my bloods at booking in were for me to assess anemia, blood disorders and blood type (some came back already as out of range, but waiting to hear back on if it’s an issue). I had it at 8+5 (now 9+2). Next appointment is the dating scan at 12+4 with the NHS.

Ellenn · 02/03/2024 22:03

@OneSunnyFox ahh ok thanks for clarifying! That makes sense. I feel for my age they probably will say low risk but I’ve had multiple miscarriages after embryo transfers so think I would pay to get the reassurance all is fine tbh. My appointments with midwife has ended up being quite late as I was scared to jinx it that it would go wrong if I booked earlier 🙈

Oct24 · 02/03/2024 23:42

@Ellenn Sorry I should have mentioned that I'm not U.K. based and consultant / clinic lead so things are a bit different.

Like a couple of other's have said, I don't think NIPT is offered on the NHS unless the nuchal translucency shows reason for concern at your 12 week scan. Even where I am, NIPT tests are optional but I want to know upfront and as early as possible if we have any chromosomal issues.

Bee49 · 03/03/2024 06:39

@OneSunnyFox complete change of subject but 100% recommend buying a pram second hand. The money is insane! We got a travel system for £250 (obviously minus car seat) and it was in such good condition. Plus my son hated the pram so I barely used it anyway. And babies just throw up over everything. You’re not so bothered when you’ve not spent as much on it!

OneSunnyFox · 03/03/2024 06:50

@Bee49 thanks for the tip! I have seen some absolute deals on Facebook marketplace on almost everything, just hoping some will still be around if I make it that far! I was worried about the condition on some as the price seems too good to be true! Good to know it’s not!

mrssunshinexxx · 03/03/2024 08:47

@3littlesunshines hey! Fellow mum of 3 to be here ! What's your age gaps ? How are you feeling about having 3? Xx

IsLarryFromSomething · 03/03/2024 08:50

That's great, Mrs Sunshine!

I managed to turn onto my stomach in my sleep last night, which I used to sleep on before pregnancy, but I have woken up with such sore back and breasts because of it 😣I am hoping to go for a walk today and maybe that will help.

Nic2908 · 03/03/2024 09:21

@Oct24 in booked in for nipt in two weeks when I will be 10+4. Having it through the nhs but paying privately for it. I also want to know definite outcomes. My last pregnancy at 12 week scan can back at low risk for downs at 1-350. Too me that is not low enough. I had already had a nipt privately and that was low at 1-5000. So such a big difference. I also really like that you can find out the sex early on. It had really helped me to bond with my daughter which really helped me to heal when I lost her in the second trimester.

mrssunshinexxx · 03/03/2024 09:28

No screening here for us we haven't the other 2 times either it's a very personal choice ❤️

Nic2908 · 03/03/2024 10:04

@mrssunshinexxx thank you. I absolutely agree. I think it’s one of those decisions that is personal to everyone and there is no wrong answer.

how is everyone feeling? A lot of people have not found the new thread have they? We need to be organised next time and when we get to page 40 but the new link up.

Jumping on the age gap question because I'm interested in other people's. I have a 17 month old son and 10 weeks pregnant today.

The age gap will be 2 years and 2 weeks.

AnxiousD · 03/03/2024 11:51

Had my private scan and heartbeat good and 6wks 5 days. Just still struggling to find the 'bond' and excitement. I hope it comes as it's worrying me.

sansol · 03/03/2024 12:04

Any working second time mums nervous about letting work know they're pregnant? I returned in July and have recently been promoted into my old managers role. It's weighing on my mind. Due to go back on maternity leave in September, due 1st October.

I just wanted to say I've been feeling exactly the same way and earlier in the week was thinking omg have a made a crazy decision because i love my carefree, boozy, holiday focused life! But actually told my siblings and parents yesterday and it made me soo excited!

I'm 9 +2 and had the viability scan on Friday. After the scan I didn't feel bonded or excited just overwhelmed but sharing the news made it all feel real and amazing actually - so basically don't worry not everyone is excited straight away and it will come in time I'm sure!

I wasn't in my current job with my first pregnancy but recently lots of people have been leaving where I now work and I'm worried about a negative reaction i.e. oh another person we need to replace xx
