Seems we got to the end of a thread. Not sure if a new one has been set up.

Just found out my midwife appointment is 5 weeks today (when I will be 10.5 weeks) and my ultrasound scan is 6 weeks today (when I will be 11.5 weeks). I should be really happy, but I’m also feeling rather overwhelmed because it seems like such a long way away… it’s hard to explain but it feels like I’m at the bottom of a very big hill that is the first trimester and time is already going unbelievably slowly because it’s all I can think about! Any ideas for healthy distraction / how to enjoy the time and not wish it away?! Work keeps my mind off things a bit but that’s about it…

JemRose · 27/02/2024 15:34

Hi all, hope it’s ok to join! I’m 8+3 weeks pregnant and have finally got my 12 week scan date for 4 weeks time. Just wondering if my symptoms are normal… I’ve had absolutely aweful nausea for the past 4 weeks, but I have noticed it comes and goes, like one day I might feel kinda ok and the next I feel dreadful, then back again. I’m very very tired all day. Other than that, I don’t really have any other symptoms, no sore boobs, no cravings. I had a missed miscarriage before so I’m just trying to hang on in there until the 12 week scan 😬😬😬 x

journeytomum · 27/02/2024 15:52

Hello! I've been lurking on here for a couple of weeks! We went for a scan at the EPU today after some very light spotting which worried me after we miscarried in December at 10 weeks. And to our big surprise there are twins in there measuring 6+5! Feeling absolutely wiped and up and down nausea which explains it! Hoping the next scan is positive for us in a few weeks. For now it's stuck on the sofa...Grin

ButterflySkies · 27/02/2024 16:01

@KittyFantastica it took four days to come through. I know some areas refer you for scan at booking apt some refer straight away (which is what mine have done). I think it's worth a nudge if it's been a few days?

I'm a bit miffed about how late my appointments are with my current history and with DD too. The midwives are lovely when you see them but I can't quite believe my booking is at over 12 weeks and my scans at over 13 weeks! I questioned it and they literally said "we've checked and your appointments are correct".

Let me know what you do about the scan and how it goes!! Mine's next Thursday. Sending a huge hand hold. Just peed on a stick myself to check and got a blazing positive 😂 xxx

ButterflySkies · 27/02/2024 16:07

@journeytomum amazzzzing news!!! Huge congratulations!

@JemRose it's definitely normal to have worse days, sending you a huge hug. I am the same, some days are worse than others.

@hopingforapeainapod yep i feel the same - april feels so far away which is when my scan is. It's like the TWW but massively exaggerated isnt it. Xx

CluelessInLondon · 27/02/2024 16:19

@KittyFantastica Did your hospital give any suggestion of how long it should take to hear from them? I know there were people on the previous October thread who were told not to chase unless they hadn't heard anything by 9 or 10 weeks! Mine said 5 days though, and my booking appointment was confirmed within 2 days of making the referral (got the 12 week scan letter a week or so after that).

@JemRose Welcome and congratulations - sounds very normal to have symptoms come and go and be worse on some days than others. I feel you with the tiredness - I'm 8+6 today and have perked up after spending most of yesterday and Sunday lying on the sofa!

@journeytomum Wow, two little beans - congratulations! 💕

spudnik1 · 27/02/2024 16:42

Well it's been a busy week.

I was wondering why no-one was posting didn't realise the thread was full !

We went off to butlins for Feb half term last week with DS by the Friday he had come.out in a bad rash, took him to the doctors and yep he has slapped cheek 🫣

Come Sunday and I am so ill with temp and cold symptoms. Turns out slapped cheek in adults is a cold like illness with no rash.

My booking appointment was today, which they have done over the phone because of the illness. They are going to do an extra blood test to check is I have it.

I am panicking a bit, just keep telling myself it could be just chance that I have caught a cold at the same time as having slapped cheeknin the house .......

Anyone else had this in previous pregnancy?

spudnik1 · 27/02/2024 16:43

@jjourneytomum
Twins ! Congratulations 🎊

KittyFantastica · 27/02/2024 16:57

Thanks @CluelessInLondon and @ButterflySkies I can't chase as I literally have no contact information. The self referral form was just a form, no numbers or email addresses to contact. I had a loss last month and when I self referred before that loss they called back 4 days later. Three days after that, I had a blood test form and a scan appointment letter.

It's been 12 days now and I've not heard anything. There was a link to maternity direct, but it's just a chat bot that spews out useless nonsense and doesn't know which district I'm in, so it didn't give any kind of helpful answer. It's ridiculous to leave women in this state for months on end when we have questions or concerns. I get that they can't necessarily do anything to stop the worst, but good grief, making people go all the way to 12 weeks plus just to find out if there's anything in the gestational sac? It's cruel.

@ButterflySkies We went ahead and booked the scan for Thursday. If there's nothing in the sac then we will know what we are dealing with and if there is something there then I'll just push the other one back to nine or ten weeks.

CluelessInLondon · 27/02/2024 17:02

@KittyFantastica That's really rubbish, do they not even have a phone number for the maternity department on their website? Or maybe even just try calling the main hospital switchboard and asking them to put you through to maternity appointments? I hope the scan goes well for you on Thursday and gives you some reassurance. ❤

Nervous764367 · 27/02/2024 17:02

@ButterflySkies My initial 12 week scan date was for when I’d be almost 15 weeks (I think it was like 14w5d).
I called to see if there had been any cancellations and I’ve now got a scan for when I’m bang on 12 weeks. Maybe call them and see if a sooner appointment has become available?

Anyone else feeling incredibly unsociable? I’m not up for seeing anyone. Not friends, not family. Ive become a recluse. I’ve pushed back any plans with anyone until after my 12 week scan. I’m not sure I’ve felt quite as avoidant of people before. 🙈 xx

LuxeBiscuit · 27/02/2024 17:39

@hopingforapeainapod great that you got the appointments so soon and they're reasonable timescales.

I actually found weeks 4-5 going slowly but the pace has picked up slightly in the last week. I have been busier at work and had weekend socials. Could you arrange some social events for the next few weeks / weekends to create mini milestones?

hopingforapeainapod · 27/02/2024 18:09

@ButterflySkies that’s exactly what it feels like - the longest two week wait ever!!

@LuxeBiscuit how far along are you? That’s good to hear. It’s a good idea and I probably should, I’m just feeling weirdly antisocial at the moment (which is very unlike me - normally I hate being on my own and love going out and seeing people, and now I just want to stay home!) I’m not sure if it’s because I feel weird about not telling people and having to pretend to act normal, or if it’s just because I’m absolutely exhausted from being on my feet and running around all day (I’m a teacher!) and so just want to rest!

LuxeBiscuit · 27/02/2024 18:49

@hopingforapeainapod I suspect it's a bit of both. It can be exhausting trying to avoid alcohol in social settings so I've been suggesting other activities. Plus the tiredness makes you want to hibernate.

I'm 6+6 today.

GingerCactus · 27/02/2024 19:35

Had my early reassurance scan this evening and it didn’t provide much reassurance if I’m honest!

Spent all day on edge and then a perfect storm at the scan meant they only offer abdominal scans (which at 6+6 can still be difficult), I’m a 20-22 so my weight was going to make abdominals slightly more difficult anyway AND even though I drank a litre and a half, it hadn’t made it in to my bladder in time so my bladder wasn’t full enough.

So it’s not bad news, but it’s frustrating (and a lot my fault) but they’ve rebooked me for next week so I’m keeping everything crossed!

aussiegirl89 · 27/02/2024 19:45

@Nervous764367 @hopingforapeainapod I'm so feeling like a social recluse!

For me it's absolutely both- I can't stand the sneaking around but not ready to tell people yet

But also just feel so sick and wiped out I have no energy to socialise anyway

Luckily I don't have any plans until I'm around 12 weeks when I have a hen do... I reckon I'll tell people by then tho

Got a 2nd scan tomorrow at 9 weeks - I think as an ivf girlie we get a few more than usual here in australia. The UK system sounds awful - I can't believe they make people wait until after 12 weeks for the first scan! Can you pay to have private ones? We have to pay gap fees for scans here - but it's worth it for not having anxiety

I've been so sick I really hope it's a good sign and everything's growing ok

Did anyone ever have a lot of vomiting and nausea but still have a missed miscarriage?

ButterflySkies · 27/02/2024 20:10

Im also hibernating. Going into the office a few times a week (three hour round trip on rush hour trains) and a busy toddler to look after is more than enough for me at the moment. I can barely string a sentence together tonight 😂

I'm going to see how I'm progressing next week and consider another scan at 10 weeks, depending on where they date me I'll try and pull the NHS one forwards - good tip @Nervous764367

@KittyFantastica do you have the number they called you off or an old email from them? Or can your GP put you in touch with them, they must have a number. The wait's excruciating - hold tight for the scan, im really hoping it's good news for you and allows you to relax a little xxx

Nic2908 · 27/02/2024 20:44

all went well today for early scan. There was a heartbeat and measuring exactly right at 8+4. Im really happy but I thought I would feel better than what I do. I feel more worried , as if now there is something to lose all over again. I’m going to be kept busy though. I have my nipt booked for in two weeks, my 12 week for two weeks after that and then a scan at 14 and 16 weeks. So hopefully the next 8 weeks will be a little quicker.

@journeytomum twins i am so jealous I would have loved twins. What a wonderful surprise. Is this our threads first set of twins?

@spudnik1

my friend had slapped check while in the first trimester. I know it's concerning as can increase the odds but she had no complications just a rough few weeks and then a healthy baby boy.

hopefully it's just a cold.

journeytomum · 27/02/2024 21:02

Thank you everyone! Flowers It was such a shock and I'd love to see our faces when the sonographer showed us the screen. I don't think we've processed it fully yet! We have a 20 month old so I do feel slightly terrified too if I'm honest but we will take it as it comes! I hope everyone is feeling ok, the exhaustion and nausea can be crippling. I think I am going to have to tell work earlier as I cannot see how I am going to manage commuting like this 3 hours a day for the next few weeks Confused

KittyFantastica · 27/02/2024 21:57

No, our GP refuse anything to do with pregnancy unless you need a prescription @ButterflySkies. The number they called from last time was a withheld number. I couldn't even context them to tell them my last pregnancy had ended and my NHS medical record still has my previous pregnancy and due date in situ. It's an absolute joke.

IsLarryFromSomething · 27/02/2024 22:09

How exciting that one of us is having twins! Congratulations!

Is anyone else having back pain? The NHS website says it's normal but I keep worrying over pain even though it's clearly not cramps or anything.

Shootystealy · 27/02/2024 22:26

@IsLarryFromSomething yes me too. I normally have had lower back pain as my period pains so I'm wondering if ita my uterus I'm actually feeling. Also have not been very regular so not sure if thats related!

IsLarryFromSomething · 28/02/2024 05:14

I don't think it's my uterus because some of the pain is in my back and some is in the muscles at the top of my butt 🤣 It's apparently normal but it's so weird for me as I don't normally get this pain in my cycle! I slept with a pillow between my knees last night.
