Iโ€™m due for a pap smear and I have mixed feelings about it. Whatโ€™s your opinion? Would you do it while pregnant or wait after a baby?

I think the recommendation is to defer until after baby.

HRP1990 · 19/01/2024 18:15

@emmatcc1 I had mine 3 days after I think I ovulated.. not sure if thatโ€™s any help but assume implantation would have occurred around that time and was fine!

Kate543 · 19/01/2024 18:17

Just catching up on the thread :) congrats to all the new bfps! hit 7 weeks and I am so tired today ๐Ÿคช

MudandMoet · 19/01/2024 18:28

@VT6 just wondering, have you found anything to help you sleep yet? I'm really struggling, think I'm averaging 3.5 - 4.5 hours per night max. Just want to have a good nights sleep as it's been ages now but daren't take anything to help.

HolyMoly24 · 19/01/2024 18:55

@emmatcc1 I was due one on the 17th so I called my GP to see if it can still go ahead and was told no, I have to wait until 12 weeks post birth.

MrsB2019x · 19/01/2024 19:26

So jealous of everyone getting their 12 week scan dates through! I have my booking appt on 6th Feb when Iโ€™ll be 9+6 but no word on scan yet

emmatcc1 · 19/01/2024 19:42

@HolyMoly24 Where I live itโ€™s routine to get a smear at the first ultrasound but I feel like itโ€™s so invasive especially so early and when the cervix is so sensitive.

Xur · 19/01/2024 20:02

I dont have my 13 week scan booked either, Iโ€™m just going private. I have a midwife appointment on the 29th of Jan though.
Anyone else getting them restless legs before sleep? :<

VT6 · 19/01/2024 20:58

@MudandMoet no ๐Ÿ˜ž the only thing Iโ€™ve found works to actually get some decent hours in, is go to sleep early then if you do end up waking up at stupid hours, youโ€™ve had a solid few hours and plenty of time to try and get back to sleep.๐Ÿซฃ
So I went to sleep at 8:30 last night then woke up at 12:45 to go to the toilet then managed to fall back to sleep around 3am until 6. That was a good night ๐Ÿคฃ

Aubyone · 20/01/2024 05:44

Hi all!

Just joining here, found out earlier this week, but I think I'm still only 4+1. I have a 16mo old and although we are happy and this is wanted, it was NOT expected. It took us 14mo last time, I'm breastfeeding and we very rarely have sex, but here we are!

I'm so excited but not going to lie kinda terrified about facing first trimester with a very active and dependent toddler. I remember last time thinking 'i don't know how people do this with small children to look after' but I guess I'm about to find out

Worryingly I had two days of nausea already, although I've felt absolutely fine the last two days. Didn't start til w6 last time!

Congratulations everyone!

Aubyone · 20/01/2024 05:47

Hi, I don't think they'll let you if you say your pregnant but I might be wrong! I personally would phone up and check and if they say they recommend not, I'd probably leave it.

Edit; it's been so long I've been on Mumsnet I clearly can't remember how to reply to a particular message, this was meant to be about the smear test!

hol92 · 20/01/2024 05:58

@Aubyone I'm exactly the same as you! Also 4+1 (ish) We tried for two years last time so thought we better start trying early but it happened very fast ! (Very exited and happy though!) I have 10 month old and am hoping I won't be as sick as last time haha
Congratulations ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ x

Decaffe · 20/01/2024 06:34

That feeling when you are so looking forward to a Saturday lie in, but your body wakes you up at 6:10 to go to the loo and then you canโ€™t get back to sleepโ€ฆ!

MrsB2019x · 20/01/2024 06:46

@Decaffe Same except toddler up at 6:20 ๐Ÿ˜ต

@Aubyone Congratulations! In the same boat here too, took us over a year last time and it took 6 weeks this time ๐Ÿ˜‚ itโ€™s like our bodies know what to do now!

VT6 · 20/01/2024 07:20

Any suggestions on how to lie when people ask you to your face if you are pregnant? I know itโ€™s going to happen and Iโ€™m a rubbish liar!!
went out with my partner to see a friend yesterday evening to the pub ( used dry January- which I had planned to do anyway luckily as my excuse) I left early and my partner text to say our friend asked him instantly after I left if I was expecting ๐Ÿคฃ

plinkyblonk · 20/01/2024 08:16

Hey I want to join this party! Total surprise pregnancy as I have PCOS so didn't think it was possible after my DD. I'm 7 weeks tomorrow I think if dates are correct as cylce is variable. 'm seeing the midwife on the 31st of January and can't wait till the 12 week scan I'm so nervous.

Xur · 20/01/2024 08:33

@plinkyblonk
congratulations! Me and you have exactly the same dates, I also am turning 7 weeks tomorrow and I have my midwife appointment on the 29th of Jan!

MudandMoet · 20/01/2024 09:04

@VT6 that makes sense with the sleep pattern, I really struggle to go to bed before 11 as my body/mind thinks it's too early then I don't sleep but I think I'm going to at least have to give it a try. Tbh we went out last night and wasn't back in until nearly 12, I fell asleep on the sofa (wanted to watch traitors!) and woke up at 2:15, went to bed and slept another three solid hours so not too bad.

Also, is anyone else a tummy sleeper? I am (despite large chest) I hate sleeping on my back but know it's got to come if I hopefully get a nice bump. Going to invest in one of those long pillows - any recommendations?

HRP1990 · 20/01/2024 09:10

@MudandMoet Iโ€™m also a front sleeper! I had a โ€œBbhugmeโ€ pregnancy pillow with my first and canโ€™t wait to get it out already ๐Ÿ˜‚ itโ€™s expensive but I also used it to feed etc so it ended up being for multiple use so was justified

VT6 · 20/01/2024 09:40

@MudandMoet i only got three hours last night so Iโ€™ve already cried twice this morning ๐Ÿคฃ along with the nausea Iโ€™m not doing much today ๐Ÿซฃ
Iโ€™m a stomach sleeper aswell, so if you find a good pillow please share xx

Xur · 20/01/2024 09:49

I am also a belly sleeper, we even have our own hugging pillows for this purpose. Well-I have and when I got myself a pillow I made sure I got him one aswell, to not leave him out. And we have hugging pillows in the holiday home aswell ๐Ÿ˜‚I will be gutted when I wonโ€™t be able to sleep on belly anymore, but by that time all positions will be uncomfortable anyway. I donโ€™t believe the pillows actually make a noticeable difference when the discomfort kicks in. I think weโ€™ll be twisting and turning until we stop by some position and that will probably override the necessity for a sleeping pillow. It might not be the case, but since Iโ€™ve already been getting the restless legs before sleep so I take it as a preface for whatโ€™s to come later.

I took magnesium glycinate pre-pregnancy to help me have a fuller, deeper sleep and it worked brilliantly. I was taking it with ashwagandha.

When I fell pregnant I was googling what was safe; ashwagandha is a firm no but a study on magnesium glyicantr suggested it was fine and could even help prevent things such as pre-eclampsia. Obviously, itโ€™s up to everyone individually but Iโ€™ve been continuing with it.

@Xur I had restless legs in my last pregnancy. I used to have to do some form of exercise in the evening but a good massage and some magnesium cream helped. I've already started taking magnesium supplements to see if it helps this time

plinkyblonk · 20/01/2024 09:58

@Xur congratulations too! How you finding things? I've had sore boobs, odd camping and getting an icky feeling every so often. And this your first? X
