Congrats @xur and @Swift1602

@rupertbear91 it's horrible isn't it - the doc I saw yesterday said absolutely take paracetamol if you have a high temp, and honey and lemon or a spoonful of honey to help with sore throats. But that was pretty much it.

I've also joined the beige brigade - the only thing I've been able to eat the last couple of days are oven chips and those little brioche roll things. I usually eat a ton of veggies and blueberries but can't even stand the smell of them in the fridge. Even resorted to lucozade sport (no caffeine) yesterday as really lost appetite which is the complete opposite of normal. I had been doing zoe, my gut bugs cannot be happy!

MudandMoet · 22/01/2024 19:39

@HRP1990 did the soup do the trick? We've had a late finish so just chucked quiche and onion rings in the air fryer ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I'm telling myself the extra creamy crunchy coleslaw will make it a healthier choice ๐Ÿคฅ๐Ÿคญ (at least it's not maccys)

@rupertbear91 it sounds like it's going to be good old honey and lemon in hot water but you'd think there must be something you can take - hope you feel better soon.

rupertbear91 · 22/01/2024 19:44

Thanks everyone roll on summer when the bugs disappear! Only place I went at the weekend was the supermarket must have caught it there!

MudandMoet · 22/01/2024 19:46

@Megan004 I'm not sure if it's the folic acid and vitamins that are causing the constipation, I'm the same but so little fibre going in at the minute I'm not surprised.

@Wibbles64 welcome to the beige brigade ๐Ÿ˜

@rupertbear91 forgot to add, I had some paracetamol yesterday as my right eye felt like it was full of pressure or something.
I googled it plenty first and it's okay to take during pregnancy but not ibuprofen (which would normally have been my first choice)

MrsB2019x · 22/01/2024 19:47

@rupertbear91 Thatโ€™s weird, I googled it and apparently they only canโ€™t say itโ€™s safe in pregnancy because they havenโ€™t ran studies on it, but there isnโ€™t really anything in them that has been shown to cause harm

HRP1990 · 22/01/2024 19:52

@MudandMoet It did lol so much so I made it again 2 hours later ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜

@Wibbles64 I was SO close to doing ZOE before I found out I was pregnant - it says itโ€™s not recommended, not sure why. How are you getting on with it? I find all the microbiome and the bugs etc so interesting! I just canโ€™t stomach the thought of kimchi at the moment ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Xur · 22/01/2024 20:05

@MudandMoet
thats paracetamol allergy I have it too, had it since childhood. That is why ibuprofen has always been my first choice.

@rupertbear91
I will give you some traditional medicine ideas that will work for what you have.
In this case your biggest issue is the throat

  1. saltwater- mix regular salt with hot water(like for tea) and rinse your throat with it, gargle it but donโ€™t swallow.
  2. if you get pus in the tonsils warm up some salt on the pan and put it into a cotton fabric or in a towel and put it around your neck like a sausage, keep it on for some 15 minutes until it cools down. Salt absorbs pus, the salt is going to contribute to dragging the pus out of the tonsils.
  3. can go to the apothecary and buy some propolis , you can use the cotton buds to smear it on your throat and tonsils. Itโ€™s disgusting but it works
  4. You want to buy camomile, peppermint, lime tree tea. Pretty sure you can find natural ones in Holland and Barrett. Put them all in a kettle and boil with water (about 2-3L), when boiled let it cool off from 100 degrees, add some ginger, honey and you can also add some cranberries if you have. In one day you need to drink that whole pot. You need to piss out whatever got you sick, we always piss out colds and flus and viruses.

And of course, take that paracetamol before sleep.

FeeTie · 22/01/2024 20:41

So glad Iโ€™ve found this thread! Can I join?
7+1 weeks, due 8th sept, first baby - havenโ€™t a clue and no babies in my immediate family (youngest is 14!)

currently in bed watching one born every minute ๐Ÿ˜Ÿbeen sick all day, boobs hurt and just had a little cry.

Also, even though I love my fur babies I canโ€™t stand the smell of dogs right now!

gosh what a moan, ๐Ÿ˜‚honestly I am excited just a bit fed up tonight!

Wanderlust86 · 22/01/2024 21:01

@Megan004 I have the same problem and have been drinking the fybogel sachets. Its considered safe during pregnancy.
Also have the mood swings! I'm normally quite a chilled person but I feel like an angry little gremlin these days ๐Ÿ˜†

Wanderlust86 · 22/01/2024 21:06

Congrats and welcome ๐Ÿ˜Š @FeeTie

californiacooper · 22/01/2024 21:38

@FeeTie welcome!!! Congratulations
I've never seen OBEM.... I guess I should start watching it....

Wibbles64 · 22/01/2024 21:45

@HRP1990 I started zoe last July, it was really interesting to see how healthy food like porridge was spiking my blood sugar - I've learnt how to adapt things so I don't get the spikes and don't feel so hungry. I lost nearly a stone without trying and felt a lot better, all completely out the window at the moment though!

I think it's not recommended in pregnancy as technically I think it's a scientific study and it's a lot harder to get ethics/approval for anything to do with pregnancy.

Tbh, you can get a lot of the key principles from the zoe podcast and Tim Spector's latest book, but will probably pick up again at some point. I do miss the kombucha, never really got on with the kimchi

TTCSoManyQuestions88 · 22/01/2024 23:55

A new development in my first trimester: I can no longer have chocolate. It makes me SO SICK! Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, the heartburn is so real ๐Ÿ˜ญ

siobhanmt247 · 23/01/2024 05:11

I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy and I think the diet you have to follow for that is very similar to the Zoe guidelines

HRP1990 · 23/01/2024 07:42

Congrats @FeeTie!

@Wibbles64 thatโ€™s what I was most intrigued about - the blood sugar spikes. I was hoping Iโ€™d try it and get away with eating everything I liked without a spike ๐Ÿ˜‚

I follow them on Instagram and always listen to the podcasts on dog walks, I find it all so interesting! I think trying to eat 30 plants a week alone has really helped with the low energy/mood I was experiencing.. Iโ€™m hoping thatโ€™s whatโ€™s giving me a fairly good pregnancy journey so far ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

Decaffe · 23/01/2024 07:48

Thanks for all your good wishes yesterday. My tender boobs came back with a vengeance as the day wore on, and are still there this morning. My RHR and BBT also increased again this morning! ๐Ÿ˜…

I was chatting with DH last night about friends of ours. She got pregnant on the first month of trying and told everyone about it the day after getting the positive test! We talked about how that wonderful innocence can simply never be there for us. Iโ€™m so used to things going terribly wrong when it comes to fertility, that that is forever at the back of my mind.

Thank you again for the support. 5w1d and I am still here ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

Is anyone else in their fifth week? When are you going for your first scan?

Decaffe · 23/01/2024 07:52

Welcome @Caroline2023 and everyone else new! ๐Ÿ˜Š

@californiacooper did your consultant get back to you yesterday?

MudandMoet · 23/01/2024 07:55

@Decaffe yay! pleased things are looking good again for you. I know exactly what you mean, it's so hard to get excited when you've had such a difficult TTC journey. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ all is okay from here on in xx

Cat2022 · 23/01/2024 07:58

@Wibbles64 i was just about to sign up to start Zoe when I found out I was pregnant. Read his new book over Christmas and had been following the podcast. I find it all really interesting.

siobhanmt247 · 23/01/2024 07:59

@Decaffe congrats. Mine did too. Shall we make a pact to not use our smart watches anymore?

@HRP1990 you can still learn about how food affects blood spikes and things. Have a look at the glucose goddess on Instagram :)

Xur · 23/01/2024 08:15

@siobhanmt247 @Decaffe
Im happy to see you both have had positive changes and are feeling much more positive today!
Actually I did throw the Apple Watch at the back of a drawer for this reason, for the same reason I also stopped testing after I got +3 once. I am already overthinking this without the tools available to me, the tools make it worse.
Now I just have to stop grinding my fiancรฉeโ€™s brain every day about my worries.
If I continue like this I swear his brain is going to be carried out in a garbage bag by the time this baby is out l.
Not just that now when Iโ€™m angry I am angry x10 to the normal level. Bless his cotton socks. ๐Ÿ˜‚

californiacooper · 23/01/2024 09:05

@Decaffe hi, so glad you are back in the running,
Yes -I sent a pic of the test and said- any chance this is wrong? He said "no chance-congrats!"
I've now done 10 tests in total. All big solid lines. No doubt now I don't think... is anyone else testing daily just to check!!

rupertbear91 · 23/01/2024 09:07

Glad you are back on board @Decaffe I am 5 weeks 2 days today so similar to you and have a private scan booked for 7 weeks. The days are dragging so much!

cd24x · 23/01/2024 09:56

Welcome and congrats to everyone that's new :)

@siobhanmt247 @Decaffe glad you're both feeling better (well, as better as can be with sore boobs!)

@Decaffe I'm 5+4 today. I've got a scan at EPAU on Friday due to the partial molar pregnancy I had last year. However even without this I would have probably booked an early reassurance scan privately. I did with my DS around 8 weeks as I was so anxious first time round.

@MudandMoet I ended up buying a big packet of rich tea on my way to work yesterday. They helped so much with the nausea!

Got my 3+ today so that's it for testing for me. 3 more sleeps until my scan. I'm feeling quite anxious about it. With it being bang on 6 weeks I'm trying to gear myself up for not seeing a heartbeat in case my dates are pushed back a bit. Anyone else got scans this week?
