Had to cancel honeymoon - pregnant

We found out we are expecting a week ago. We were due to go on honeymoon next week to Kenya and we had to cancel. I’m so excited about the news but my partner is just giving out about loosing all of the money. I don’t care about the money I just want a healthy happy baby. I’ve tried to talk to him about it but he keeps saying how cross he is about loosing the money - making me feel like it’s my fault. Any advise?

Really? Unless your baby is actually due next week, you can still go on honeymoon. Confused

DavinaTheDonkey · 11/01/2024 18:16

Sorry, why can't you go? Feel as if I'm missing something. If you're only 4-5 weeks pregnant, you can still go?

ConflictedCheetah · 11/01/2024 18:16

Why did you have to cancel?

cancany174 · 11/01/2024 18:16

Will your holiday insurance cover anything.

bogoblin · 11/01/2024 18:17

Well it takes two to tango - has that crossed his mind? You didn't get yourself pregnant!

CatherinedeBourgh · 11/01/2024 18:18

Just go on the honeymoon! Unless you have medical advice not to, in which case the insurance will cover it.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 11/01/2024 18:19

Is it because it’s malarial? Will your insurance pay out?

equinoxprocess · 11/01/2024 18:19

Why did you "have to" cancel? That's ridiculous.

Gloriousgardener11 · 11/01/2024 18:19

You could have gone.
I did a three week fly drive in the USA when I was 4 months pregnant, it was fine.

GavinHendersonsChipPan · 11/01/2024 18:19

Why have you cancelled?

I understand the anxiety is real- and if it was a £200 pp easyJet special to Lisbon, I’d cancel it.

but seeing as it’s KENYA and so much money would be lost, I’d pack some ginger biscuits and crack on.

CustardCreamm · 11/01/2024 18:20

I don't understand why you cancelled either?

Mumaway · 11/01/2024 18:22

Why would you not go? They have pregnancy in Kenya, and as long as you're well and have informed them, you will be covered by insurance

Overthebow · 11/01/2024 18:23

Why have you cancelled? If there’s a medical reason then insurance would pay anyway?

ElevenSeven · 11/01/2024 18:24

Why have you cancelled? I went on honeymoon pregnant.

bryceQ · 11/01/2024 18:25

Why have you cancelled? I don't get it

janruarry · 11/01/2024 18:25

Did you cancel because of Zika or something?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 11/01/2024 18:25

I think she’s cancelled because it’s a country with both malaria and zika, the consequences of which can be catastrophic for both the mother and the baby.

BUT, and it’s a big but here, I suspect you’ve paid a LOT of money for this. The big resorts (which I’m assuming you’re staying in) will be mosquito sprayed within an inch of their lives and you can still take anti-malarials when you’re pregnant.

you pays your money, you takes your choice. As you were (I assume) actively trying to get pregnant before a honeymoon you believe you can’t go on when you’re pregnant, you must have been prepared to take the risk and cancel.

can you change it to another destination with the same tour operator?

ElevenSeven · 11/01/2024 18:33

Did you cancel it together?

Missingmybabysomuch · 11/01/2024 18:42

I assume OP cancelled due to it being advised against travelling to Kenya pregnant due to both malaria and zika risks.
Sorry you will miss the honeymoon but congrats on the baby news!
Not sure how to help about your partner, hopefully he will come around soon

SparklyOwls · 11/01/2024 19:04

Was it a joint decision to cancel?

Was it not possible for the travel company to change your location?

What about travel insurance?

Noddy89 · 11/01/2024 19:17

Had to cancel because Kenya is a Zika virus area so doctor said absolutely not 😭

OP posts:
equinoxprocess · 11/01/2024 19:22

So why won't your insurance cover it?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 11/01/2024 19:24

Well if the Dr said no then will your travel insurance not pay out?

ElevenSeven · 11/01/2024 19:25

Wow, I’d be gutted too.

QueSyrahSyrah · 11/01/2024 19:30

If the Dr has told you not to travel then your travel insurance will pay out surely?

We were 10 days away from a big trip booked to a country with some Zika risk (although no confirmed cases for serval years) when I first found out I was pregnant. We made the decision to go anyway and were extremely vigilant with mosquito protection.
