@SnookyPook omg that’s soooo helpful! Thank you much… xxx

SnookyPook · 20/02/2024 19:53

@CharTT33 you're welcome! 🤗

CharTT33 · 20/02/2024 19:55

@EMJL thank you… I really hope they listen to baby’s heartbeat..

Has anyone bought a Doppler ? X

pontipinemum · 21/02/2024 09:10

@CharTT33 no, I was very tempted on DS but from what I have read they can cause more anxiety than they're worth. If you can't find his HB etc. My GP (where half my maternity care was done) used one and one time it took her about 10 years to find the HB (OK 5 mins) I was getting really nervous. But he was just hiding in a corner. If that has been at home I'd have been freaking out

SnookyPook · 21/02/2024 09:19

Same @pontipinemum - heard so much about them actually making anxiety worse that it didn't seem worth it on balance!

CharTT33 · 21/02/2024 12:39

@pontipinemum it makes me think why don’t they does do an ultrasound scan instead then… why go through the hassle of using a Doppler?!!

Sometimes I think they do things the long way…

pontipinemum · 21/02/2024 16:03

@CharTT33 I live outside a small town (approx 1,000 people) the doppler was just at the GP who I used to go to every 4 week. I'm in Ireland I know it's different in the UK, and different again depending on which part. The appointments I had in the maternity used to do a little scan each time by the doctor which was nice

Winnie14 · 21/02/2024 18:50

@CharTT33 completely agree about ultrasound! I’ve actually booked a private one this weekend just before my 16 week midwife appointment for peace of mind. It will be my fourth scan this pregnancy, which I know sounds excessive to many but after an mmc last year, I feel like I still need the reassurance that this is really happening!

Has anyone’s bump appeared yet? I thought I was just bloated until this week- my tummy has been sticking out and hard at the bottom, even first thing in the morning. I’ve been so cautious about telling people but I don’t think I’ll be able to hide my bump much longer!

pontipinemum · 22/02/2024 10:51

@Winnie14 there is a lovely thread of bump pics on the FB, not sure if you've seen it. I am already obviously pregnant but it's my 2nd I didn't show as early with my 1st. I think my body just said pregnant - boom roundy!

It's hard after an mmc to believe that it is all still good. My 1st mc was a MMC and it's hard to trust after💔

Winnie14 · 27/02/2024 20:42

Thanks @pontipinemum. Scan was fine and found out that we are having a girl! Although we are waiting to confirm this at the 20 week scan before we tell anyone, just in case! It definitely feels more real now and I’m beyond happy. 🩷

Last weeks ‘bump’ has fluctuated a bit since so I think maybe it’s still more food baby than actual baby. 😂

Were/are Any working second time mums nervous about letting their work know they're pregnant? I will be back from maternity leave 14 months before I go again, meaning I got pregnant 6 months into being back. Only just been promoted to my managers old role and they have no idea I'm pregnant. Nervous to tell them.

I've just got a promotion - my manager was on the deciding panel and already knew about my pregnancy. I know it feels daunting and some women unfortunately still have bad experiences but you are legally protected and it is your right to have children and take maternity leave. Most places now are supportive of that. Try not to let it worry you too much. And don't be apologetic when you tell them! However, obviously if there are things you can reassure in terms of what you're planning in terms of handover/planning for your absence then go in with that and let them know you're eager to set them up for success while you're gone. 😊

Maybe tell them on Friday... International Women's Day and all workplaces will be trying to showcase how awesome they are to their female colleagues 😜

Blueberry1990 · 03/03/2024 15:48

Does anyone else not feel pregnant at all yet? I'm 18 weeks and have had zero symptoms and pretty much zero bump 🙄 if it wasn't for my scans I wouldn't believe my little girl was in there 😆

sansol · 03/03/2024 19:39

@SnookyPook that's great news on your promotion, congratulations. Even better that your pregnancy was out in the open. I shouldn't feel I am deceiving them because I actually jumped over from September babies, I'm not due until 30th Sept, so actually haven't had my 12 week scan yet and only knew I was pregnant the same week they told me about the job. It was strange timing. Thanks for sharing your story! Scan is March 20.

Aw best of luck with it all and congratulations on your promotion also! 😊

Is anyone else actually freezing cold?

I'm just feeling the cold so much at the moment even though my lounge is like 18c and my husband is walking around in a t shirt

Hello there! Tentatively joining this thread. I've had a bit of a weird pregnancy emotionally so far after previous losses, but slowly relaxing into it and feeling more positive now. Turned up to my 12 week scan yesterday to be told I was 16+4 with a mid August due date! I also found out I'm having a boy (already have a boy who will be 6 and a girl who will be 4 in September) 🩵🩷🩵

Oh wow! That must have been quite a (nice!) shock to find you are a whole month ahead of what you thought! Especially after previous losses! There are a few of us who have had previous losses on the thread so you're not alone there. Has it eased your worry at all to find out you're over 16wks already? I've found my anxiety (after 3 losses last year) has started to settle a lot over the last week - currently 17+1.

Welcome to the gang! 😊

Thank you! I think I went into a strange mode of not wanting to get attached after previous losses and didn't want to let myself feel positive about it... I feel much better for having seen the scan and being more 'real'. The only thing is that I'm too late for the usual tests they do at 12ish weeks, but can still have a blood test for downs. The sonographer did reassure me that everything looked healthy and other genetic issues and problems can usually be seen on a scan.

Apraisechorus · 05/03/2024 14:22

And sorry for your previous losses also. The grief and hormones are so horrible.

SnookyPook · 05/03/2024 14:50

@Apraisechorus yes I think that's very common unfortunately after loss. I also didn't dare get too into it all for a long time. It still feels completely surreal sometimes to realise I'm actually pregnant and at this stage! Ah yes guess you've missed the screening window. Have they offered NIPT then or something else? Good they sound happy with how it's all looking anyway!

DisneyLady1 · 05/03/2024 18:04

@sansol I returned back to work and became pregnant a month later! So I won't have been back a year by the time baby 2 arrives.

Work have been really supportive and I'm lucky that there are a few people who did this before me, so nothing new.

Hope it goes well with your work too! :)

Decaffe · 06/03/2024 08:20

Hi @Isitisit and @bobbles4091 I wondered how you were getting on after the 12 week scans and raised NT results? I am an interloper from the September thread. I am waiting for my NIPT results but it was very clear to me at the accompanying scan (10w6d although measuring 11w0d) that there was a significantly large NT.

(I also noticed it at a scan at 9w2d and asked the sonographer about it; she said she couldn’t say anything because I wasn’t 11 weeks.)

I have my 12 week scan next Tuesday and I’m sick as a parrot about it. The NIPT clinic (Concepto) called me yesterday, I thought it was with the results, but it was just to check my email address and to say they’d received the sample! So I am not sure when I will receive the results. But I am very worried that given what I saw at the scans, plus being over 40, that it may not be good news.

I hope things are going ok for you both Thanks

Isitisit · 06/03/2024 13:11

Hi @Decaffe

I used concepto for my NIPT as well. First result came back invalid so they had to repeat and the second came back low risk. The hospital sent me for a 16 week heart scan and that looks good but they are checking again at 20 weeks.

Its good you will be getting your NIPT results as that is a better test than NT so will hopefully give you some reassurance
