So sorry to hear of your experience @Fawklight . When I bled in my first pregnancy I went for a private scan, before then going to the EPU.

The EPU then said that i shouldn't have gone for a private scan as they can be misleading etc etc and they prefer to diagnose anything themselves - seems like you can't win!

Nope I can't win.
But the private centre I'm going to, do diagnostic scans as well as diagnostic pregnancy scans. They send reports to midwives ect so I think I'll be ok with them.

I had my NIPT test with them in my last pregnancy.

In my last pregnancy the EPU saw me when I bled. That was during COVID.

DisneyLady1 · 23/01/2024 16:04

Hope you manage to get an answer soon @Fawklight . Thinking of you at this stressful time.

SnookyPook · 23/01/2024 16:09

@Fawklight hope you don't have to wait too long for the private scan. You must just be longing for some clarity on it all. X

bobbles4091 · 23/01/2024 17:03

@Fawklight I just wanted to send some love and support to you. I'm sorry this has happened and I have everything crossed for a positive outcome.
I'm really shocked the EPU have refused to scan you. I had a scan at 5.5 weeks, and then 8 weeks as a follow up (as couldn't show viability at the first) and I literally got one just because I reported an ongoing 'niggly' pain on my right side that a) was probably too high to be anything and b) often disappeared once I'd passed a bowel movement. I felt like a fraud but they said that's what they're there for. I appreciate they maybe suspected an ectopic but I wasn't in pain as such and hadn't had any bleeding, and I did tell them this. When I'd rung I was just wanting some reassurance and expecting to be told to bugger off.
Maybe it depends on your area but I do think you've been let down here. The EPU are there to assess and determine what's going on but they're also trained to support you with the emotional stress of it all. The sonographer at the EPU told me that's why they discourage early viability private scans because they feel the private sector aren't trained to support women if it's the worst outcome.
I really hope everything's okay ❤️

Fawklight · 23/01/2024 17:12

@bobbles4091
@DisneyLady1

Thank you both. I know that the EPU in my area is very strict but I didn't think they'd be this bad.

I'm lucky in the fact the private scan company I'm going for do alot of diagnostic scans. Otherwise I'd probably have just waited until my scan on the 21st Feb.

Which would have killed me.

Fawklight · 23/01/2024 17:13

@SnookyPook above is for you too. For some reason your name didn't stick o.O

bobbles4091 · 23/01/2024 17:56

@Fawklight they sound great. I absolutely would do the same as you. Waiting until latter February sounds impossible. All the love 🙏🏻

CaribouCarafe · 24/01/2024 11:41

Just an update - had my 12 week scan today and everything is looking good! Baby was in a slightly awkward position and quite wriggly so couldn't get a clear image of the nub (the sonographer said they quite like playing the nub theory game and would've let me know if I wanted to!).

Measuring 12 weeks and 4 days, estimated delivery date 3rd August. Am in love already😍

Sav2023 · 24/01/2024 11:50

@CaribouCarafe congratulations! How exciting 🥰
@Fawklight sorry for what you’re going through, hopefully you can get your private scan soon! Xx

Duffy23 · 24/01/2024 15:12

Hi all

Sadly I'll have to leave this group 😔 I had a bleed this morning so went to the hospital They couldn't find a heartbeat & the baby was measuring at
6 weeks when I'm meant to be 9. I have to go back next Tuesday but they are 90% sure its a miscarriage . I think I should prepare for the worst I know it won't be good news

CaribouCarafe · 24/01/2024 17:11

@Duffy23 I'm so sorry to hear that, sending lots of good wishes your way 💐

SunSparkle · 24/01/2024 18:20

@Duffy23 im so sorry this is happening to you. It’s such a horrible feeling. Sending you a big hug.

@Fawklight how are you doing?

OP posts:
Fawklight · 24/01/2024 18:30

@SunSparkle at the moment I'm just trying to carry on as normal, but i can't stop thinking what if.

Today my belly feels really weird though.

SunSparkle · 24/01/2024 18:38

@Fawklight you might have already tried this but I called the community midwife team today and said I was unhappy with their response not to rescan me (for different reasons than yours) and said I wanted to refer the issue to PALS and all of a sudden they sorted it.

i would also consider telling them a fib and saying you’ve had more symptoms just so you can get them to take you seriously. It must be awful not being able to go to EPU.

@Duffy23 so sorry to hear this. Sending all the love to you, please take good care of yourself ❤️

Duffy23 · 24/01/2024 19:38

Thanks ladies

I'm OK. I'm lucky to have a beautiful toddler so I'm focusing in jet. I'm glad she's not old enough to understand.

My sister had a baby boy today so I'm delighted for them. I'm just devastated that I miscarried as I'll always think of my baby on his birthday 💔💔

CaribouCarafe · 24/01/2024 19:45

Oh @Duffy23 that's such unfortunate timing, really hard that it coincided with your nephew's birthday

DisneyLady1 · 24/01/2024 19:55

I'm so sorry to hear this @Duffy23 , it is the most horrible thing to have to go through. Take the time you need to grieve and also to rest up as you might be very tired too. We never forget our little ones.

SnookyPook · 25/01/2024 08:32

@Duffy23 sending you so much love. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. And the timing with your sister is extra tough. There are some wonderfully supportive threads on the miscarriage board when you feel ready. Lots of really great women who really helped me through last year. Take time to grieve and enjoy all the cuddles from your little toddler - they are such a comfort 💕

CRbear · 25/01/2024 10:56

@Duffy23 I am so sorry, that is just horrible news and horrible timing too. Wishing you peace in time. If and when you’re ready I also found the miscarriage board extremely comforting.

@Fawklight i agree with @SunSparkle - either a light “threat” of pals or a white lie about symptoms to get another scan. It’s a postcode lottery, they would have done it elsewhere. I wouldn’t feel bad about that in the slightest.

CRbear · 25/01/2024 11:00

I remember someone saying they were having terrible headaches around 12 weeks and felt cheated as should have been feeling better?!

Exact same thing happened to me, I had a 3 day headache and I was so despondent I couldn’t think how I was going to get through the pregnancy. I told my friend and she had the same experience with her second pregnancy and discovered that one caffeinated coffee a day kept the headaches in check! I’ve been almost totally caffeine free for months but walked straight round the corner to get a cappuccino and I felt better within 20 minutes! Wanted to share in case it helped anyone else.

At the same time as the headache- I started having food regurgitation in the middle of the night which is terrifying. The glamour! I have since learned it’s related to reflux and I didn’t expect that to start so early. I have a gastric band and get acid reflux anyway so I suppose it makes sense it would get worse. I’ve started eating dinner earlier, choosing lower fat food and ensuring I sit up right for a few hours before bed and sleeping on a pillow fort and I’ve got a rather fetching pillow wedge arriving today.

…and here I was thinking trimester 2 was supposed to be the easy one!

SunSparkle · 25/01/2024 11:07

@CRbear i miss coffee so much. It was making me sick so I’ve switched it for coke!

and yes to the food regurgitation. Had it really bad from 20 weeks last pregnancy but I’m on morning and night omeprazole already which is helping so much!

Oh good tip @SunSparkle , maybe I can ask for that!

love how this thread makes me feel less alone!

Isitisit · 25/01/2024 12:30

Hi all,

My NIPT results came back as low risk for everything so feeling relieved although fetal fraction was only 3% which concerned me a bit so I’ll be glad to have my 12 week scan tomorrow. I’m normal bmi so seems like it should be higher? The only other thing I can find is that autoimmune disease can affect fetal fraction (T1 diabetic) so don’t know whether that’s the cause? Anyone had similar?
