Hi all,

My NIPT results came back as low risk for everything so feeling relieved although fetal fraction was only 3% which concerned me a bit so I’ll be glad to have my 12 week scan tomorrow. I’m normal bmi so seems like it should be higher? The only other thing I can find is that autoimmune disease can affect fetal fraction (T1 diabetic) so don’t know whether that’s the cause? Anyone had similar?

Must admit I've no idea what fetal fraction is?! Hopefully you'll get some reassurance at your scan tomorrow anyway.

My nerves are starting to ramp up a bit again. Another week until my 12wk scan. I had a dream last night that I got a letter I was high risk for chromosomal abnormalities 🤦🏼‍♀️ Trying to keep positive and cheery!! Timing a first trimester with January was unfortunate 😂😂

SnookyPook · 25/01/2024 12:43

@Isitisit meant to say - great news on the low risk for everything else!!

Isitisit · 25/01/2024 13:33

Thanks @SnookyPook
My best friend just messaged to say hers was exactly the same and she’s now 20 weeks so hopefully all good. Same as me in getting a failed first test too and same company so that’s reassured me a bit.

SunSparkle · 25/01/2024 14:53

Did they give you a range for what fetal fraction could/should be @Isitisit ?

OP posts:
Isitisit · 25/01/2024 17:29

@SunSparkle

No, online it says that fetal fraction is usually 10-15% and can produce invalid tests if below 3.5% but it must have been high enough for them to read. I feel reassured that my friend has the same result.

Sav2023 · 25/01/2024 19:22

Hi everyone, we had our 12 week scan and everything looks perfect. I’m so happy and can’t believe it’s happening for us 🥹❤️. I had a subchorionic hematoma diagnosed a few weeks ago but that is gone now which is also amazing.
@Isitisit great news on the low risk results!

Isitisit · 25/01/2024 19:39

Congratulations @Sav2023

Hope you can have a nice relaxing weekend on the back of this - you’ve earned it!

Isitisit · 26/01/2024 13:19

Unfortunately didn’t really get the reassurance we wanted today.

Baby was wriggling around etc but nuchal translacency was raised so have been referred to fetal medicine, appt next week. They offered combined screening but basically said there wasn’t much point as NIPT test was more accurate and I’d already had that so it could cause unnecessary anxiety.

They will be scanning the babies heart for abnormalities and talk us through the invasive tests so we can decide on that.

Trying not to worry at the moment as there isn’t much I can do right now and then see what they say next week.

SnookyPook · 26/01/2024 13:26

@Isitisit oh I'm sorry to hear that 😔 what a worry for you. Did they offer any kind of insight? The screening was clear for chromosomal abnormalities wasn't it so is that why they are focusing on heart? Hope you don't have to wait long for your appointment next week 💕

Isitisit · 26/01/2024 13:46

@SnookyPook
Basically, the NIPT test can only test for a limited number of conditions but there are other chromosomal conditions that raised nuchal transparency can point to and it can also point to heart issues. I’m hoping I can better understand what those are and risks next week to decide a way forward.

SnookyPook · 26/01/2024 14:07

Ah I'm so sorry you've got this to worry about. Hopefully it will be nothing. My understanding is sometimes the nuchal translucency comes back a bit high but further testing shows no issues. Really hope that's the case for you next week. 💕

bobbles4091 · 26/01/2024 15:17

@Isitisit I'm so sorry the tests haven't given you the reassurance you'd hoped for. My feeling, like @SnookyPook said is that I'm sure I've heard of this happening to friends or acquaintances before and thankfully turning out to be something and nothing. It does sound really stressful though so I'm sorry you're going through it.
Just a thought, and you've probably already considered this but if the NIPT reported low fetal fraction, I think I'd ask for it to be done again maybe (on the nhs this time)?

I've got a scan in 40 minutes at the EPU because I've spent the last 9 days with flu (never had it before) and I don't think I've ever been so ill. I've read it can cause miscarriage and it's stressed me out (thanks Dr Google), so they've agreed to check everything's okay. Wish me luck 🙏🏻

CaribouCarafe · 26/01/2024 16:06

Good luck @bobbles4091 and hope you feel better soon 💐

SnookyPook · 26/01/2024 16:50

@bobbles4091 so sorry to hear you've been so unwell. Really hope everything was fine at the scan. 💕

bobbles4091 · 26/01/2024 19:08

Thanks @SnookyPook and @CaribouCarafe ❤️

Baby was wriggling away and had a good heart beat. Measured just a day off my own calculations so I'm happy. Now back in bed feeling terrible. If anyone's not had their flu jab yet I'd definitely recommend getting one 😓

Hope everyone's doing okay!

SnookyPook · 26/01/2024 20:39

@bobbles4091 oh what a relief! So glad little one was ok. Thanks for the reminder - I did actually get my jab after my booking appointment a couple of weeks ago! Hope you feel loads better soon x

RiverBear · 26/01/2024 20:43

Pleased for everyone who's had good news 💕 and sorry for everyone who's going through a hard time 🩷

My update is that I had my 12 week scan yesterday - baby wouldn't stay still so the sonographer reallt struggled to take a measurement 😆 she managed in the end and was measuring 11+4, which matches my estimation 😊
I felt so tired and achey all day afterwards. Is anyone struggling with a throbbing pain im the head when they stand up?! It's a new symptom for me and it's really annoying! Thinking it's a tiredness thing because I'm fine at the start of the day but it appears gradually by late afternoon/evening.

Alim0 · 26/01/2024 21:05

Has anyone got D rhesus negative blood? I got a letter after my booking appointment to say I do and will need further testing at my scan. I'm trying not to think about it too much but my scan isn't for another 3 weeks and it's just that niggling feeling in the back of my mind as all I can do is read about it online but I don't really know what it means for me.

SnookyPook · 26/01/2024 21:08

@Alim0 I don't but it shouldn't be a big thing. I think it means you will need an Anti-D injection at certain points of your pregnancy/pre-labour but I'm sure your midwifes will explain it all and hopefully one of the other ladies on the thread will have experienced it. X

CaribouCarafe · 26/01/2024 21:14

@RiverBear I've found introducing small amounts of caffeine back in has helped immensely. I'm having 2 caffeinated teas a day, and it's made a big (positive) difference. Glad to hear the scan went well! Mine was wriggly too but thankfully fell asleep at the end 😆

bobbles4091 · 27/01/2024 06:34

@Alim0 I'm A- (and my partner is +)I had an anti-d injection at some point between 16 and 20 weeks in my last pregnancies (can't exactly remember), and then depending on babies blood type at birth, if different to yours they give you another one then as well.
Some trusts seem to take this more seriously than others, for example one lady I met online was asked to wear something on her wrist to notify medics in the event of an emergency (ie a car crash) in case babies blood mixed with hers. My trust never mentioned it bar scheduling the jab.
For reassurance, I've had two healthy little girls so far.

Tweedy0013 · 27/01/2024 08:32

Cheshire residents, please help.
Has anybody got any first hand experience with Leighton Hospital in Crewe?
I've got my appointment with the midwife booked and I've been told to pick a hospital I'd like to give birth at. This is my first time & I've only lived in the area for 12 months so I don't have much local knowledge!
any other recommendations?
many thanks in advance xxx

CharTT33 · 27/01/2024 10:02

@SnookyPook @SunSparkle hey so glad to hear things are going well for everyone! I’ve been super quiet recently as I’ve just being trying to plod on through with all the ups and downs. I had my 12 week scan on Wednesday everything looked perfect on the scan but I then got a call the next day saying my baby is at a high risk 1 in 47 for trisomy21. I was at school in the middle of teaching, I also have a genetic condition that both me and my partner have which gives us 1:4 that our child will have the full disease. Anyway long story short i
was asked to leave work early and come in for a cvs scan which I had previously booked for the day before but they couldn’t get to the placenta so they moved my procedure till next Tuesday but as a result of the high risk trisomy21 they wanted to see my the same day! I was petrified. But I left school in a complete panic and headed home, luckily my partner was home and we went straight to Denmark Hill fetal medicine centre where I was seen by the professor who was amazing, I was so scared my mum and dad even came. Now it’s just a waiting game for both my genetic condition and trisomy21. I am petrified waiting for the results.

SunSparkle · 27/01/2024 10:12

Oh @CharTT33 ! So sorry to hear your news. What a stressful week for you. I really hope the CVS gives you some answers ASAP as the not knowing and fretting about things must be very stressful. Did they say what day the results would come back next week?

@CharTT33 oh so sorry to hear that. How stressful for you. Hope you get some answers quickly next week and that everything is ok. 💕
