Thought I'd make a new thread before the old one filled up completely.

Into the second trimester and beyond 😊

Hi all, what method of vitamin k is everyone choosing? I hadn’t thought about it till I had my pre op and have my section tomorrow, they said they can have 1 injection when they are born or drops over a few days/weeks, what’s everyone else’s thoughts?

Wheeeeee · 29/05/2024 17:43

I'm definitely opting for the vit K injection, for me it has the best risk/benefit.

Elmlee · 29/05/2024 18:08

I've had my growth scan, baby has dropped to 3rd percentile.
Had a sweep.... feel a touch minging having some food out and a chilled night... well while moving to try and get my cervix in order! 😂

oop · 29/05/2024 18:53

I couldn't have a sweep today because baby has decided to disengage completely 🙄😩. So annoying. Probably why I keep having false starts as it starts when she engages and then stops when she pops back up again.
I have a feeling this is going to be a very late baby! My first was day after due date so wasn't expecting this.

I opted for oral vitamin K, as some studied suggest that babies have low levels at birth for a reason, and I liked the idea of spreading out the dose - so getting the benefits without as much risk of a high dose. I don't think it makes an enormous difference though. If I'd had instrumental deliveries or C section I may have opted for the injection though.

Catson · 29/05/2024 20:03

@oop it's really common for babies after the first one to go in and out of engagement, so don't be disheartened, your uterus isn't the same after the first baby

Goldie1234 · 30/05/2024 12:18

I feel like there were some sections and inductions booked for today ? Good luck everyone ! 🍀
I think I'm going for the vit k injection after doing some reading about it. I'm pretty sure that's what my other 2 had 🤔 that's really interesting though @Edgeofthesea I might do a bit more reading lol
@Elmlee are you being induced this weekend ? X

DanisEndo · 30/05/2024 12:25

Happy birthday to all the babies starting their journey earth side today!!! Love to all the mummies with their inductions and C sections today.

im due at the end of the month so one of the last, a bit worried to see junior doctor strike the week of my due date!!! I’m planning a midwife led unit so hope it doesn’t impact that but presumably it would if I had to go to the main ward for whatever reason?

I have my 36 week midwife appointment today and really hoping baby girl is head down. And a growth scan tomorrow which will be nice (presuming the sonographer isn’t a moody moo again 👀)
feels so odd to know she could make her arrival any day now really.

Suchardchoccy · 30/05/2024 12:52

Good luck to everyone having their babies today! Keep us updated 😊

I'm going for the vit k injection, it's what my other two had and what the midwife recommended.

@DanisEndo good luck with the sonographer!!

DanisEndo · 30/05/2024 13:08

Thanks @Suchardchoccy !!!

MsNeis · 30/05/2024 13:42

Well, well, well... I was going to be one of the c-sections today but apparently my baby has had a change of mind: I was going in for my c-section for breech presentation and they scanned me to see and she had turned! So we've gone back home and now all we have to do is wait! I honestly can't believe it myself... I have no words!!!

DanisEndo · 30/05/2024 13:57

Oh my gosh @MsNeis what a turn of events! Typical baby doing their own thing 😂😂 hope you’re feeling alright with the change of events? Not ideal when you’ve hyped yourself up for one thing

Elmlee · 30/05/2024 14:02

@Goldie1234
Yep been here 15 mins, just waiting to see doctors 🤞🤞

@MsNeis oh I bet you were looking forward to meeting your baby today!

Suchardchoccy · 30/05/2024 14:04

@Elmlee good luck!!!

oop · 30/05/2024 17:29

@Elmlee good luck!!

@MsNeis oh wow what a surprise that must have been! Nice that you might be able to avoid a c.section now though (unless you'd planned on having one anyway of course!).

@Catson thanks! Hopefully she'll engage soon and let labour start properly!

My baby has approx 7 hours left if they want to be on time 😂. If not we'll be entering the grumpy overdue phase tomorrow!

Thanks ladies, nothing to report as of yet.
Been waiting most the afternoon.
Had some emergencies come in so just sitting tight and bored stiff 🥹

Suchardchoccy · 30/05/2024 18:30

@Elmlee I do empathise, waiting in hospital is horrible 😣 what type of induction are you having? I've never had one but if baby is actually measuring big I might have to have one which will change my plans of a home birth 🙁 do you think it will be quick?

Elmlee · 30/05/2024 18:56

@Suchardchoccy
I had one last time and it was a good experience by all accounts.
I had a balloon and it worked very well.
Don't think I'll really know my options until they have actually examined me.
I'm just a queue which is so frustrating and tiring just being here xx

Suchardchoccy · 31/05/2024 10:57

@Elmlee oh good! Well I hope this one is just as smooth 🤞🏻 how's it going?

Just wanted to share here, I'm 40+6 with my 3rd "big baby" (from growth scans) and I've also encountered a lot of pressure from consultants each time after scans about considering induction and even C section based on baby's size. However, if you look at the NICE guidelines, induction isn't clinically advised based on suspected macrosomia alone, and actually increases the chances of shoulder dystocia. And half of all cases of dystocia aren't in big babies.

I've had two unmedicated, vaginal deliveries with no complications (8lb12 and 9lb13) and I'm currently under a home birth team who are very supportive of a natural home birth third time around too. As my midwife said to me, induction is a good way to get a big baby into a stupid position! In the absence of other risk factors or cause for concern (eg. Gestational diabetes), a "large for dates" baby isn't necessarily going to cause problems, and induction could lead to other interventions and complications. letting your body go into labour spontaneously can give baby the best chance of getting themselves into the right position. I'm absolutely not trying to convince you what choice to make, just wanted to share my perspective and my own research as someone planning a home birth with a baby who is apparently off the charts!

Hi,
Wait was long there were some very important emergencies in so they left me to it. Didn't expect anything until this morning then at 11:30 last night a doctor was free and did an examination couldn't have a balloon, wasn't favourable.
But had a propest. Getting some pains like period pains and becoming more uncomfortable.
Will be examined later (around midnight) then see what's next 🤞🤞😬

Suchardchoccy · 31/05/2024 12:24

@Edgeofthesea thank you for sharing that, it's interesting. Again, something I've never experienced but i suppose we will have to see if she actually is measuring big on the scan on Monday or if the tape measure is just wrong - this happened with my first and she wasn't measuring big from the scan at all.

Suchardchoccy · 31/05/2024 12:26

@Elmlee oh good luck!! I'm excited for you!

Wheeeeee · 31/05/2024 13:10

@Elmlee , @LavenderJoy and @PurpleIsTheColour I hope things are going well for you all!

I'm 37 weeks today! Baby has been consistently head down at my last few appointments but last week he seemed to be lying diagonally with his ?shoulders? embedded in my right hip. So my midwife has suggested I try all the positions to encourage him into a nice OA presentation! I've now become a bit obsessed trying to work out what position he's in but I'm just feeling kicks and bumpy bits everywhere so who knows 🤪
