Thought I'd make a new thread before the old one filled up completely.

Into the second trimester and beyond 😊

@cosylife awww huge congratulations 🥰🥰

Congratulations @cosylife!

How are you doing @MrsTrue? Any more?

I'm due on Saturday and no signs of movement at all as yet! I reckon I've got a couple more days of laying around / nesting in me before I start to get impatient Grin

MrsTrue · 28/05/2024 20:02

@cosylife congratulations!!! Hope you're getting lots of lovely newborn cuddles!

@CheeseWisely - thanks for checking, they've been going all day, I'm really hoping they ease off soon! I've just created another thread to ask for more views actually as it seems so weird that they've been going all day. I've spoken to PAU twice and they've said its fine as they're not painful (although a couple have been a little bit), not longer than a minute and are more than 10-15 minutes apart. Still seems excessive though. Hoping for just the right amount of downtime before they arrive, so really hoping it's nothing!!

@Wheeeeee I quickly packed a bag using your list this morning too, so thank you!!

hi ladies. Happy to see babies arriving and labours starting! Meanwhile I just got my GD diagnosis at 36 weeks... sent to consultant-led care straight away, have an appointment tomorrow re diet, etc. Meh :(

FantasticMissFox · 29/05/2024 04:40

Congratulations @cosylife! How exciting the babes are starting to arrive!
Had my 38w appointment yesterday, midwife in no rush to jiggle things along and pretty sure baby is content in there so planning another couple of chilled weeks making the most of it.

I need to give colostrum expressing a better go, I lose patience so quickly, don't think I'm giving it enough time to come out.

You've got this... this is my second GD pregnancy.
The appointment will be a breakdown of 'recommended' foods and then your sugar testing kit for your blood. They will just go through numbers they expect. Don't be surprised if you end up on medication... I have been on metformin twice and on insulin this pregnancy... tends to lead to slightly earlier inductions but depends on your trust.

Any questions feel free to message xxx

I'm so rubbish with expressing too.
Doesn't help my breasts feel so tender, touching them too much makes me feel nauseous 🤢

I was hoping to have some sex to try and get things going but tbh we are both so tired and stressed doubt that will happen 😅😅

Feel sick this morning, got my growth scan this afternoon, scan review and hopefully they will do a sweep 🤞😬 not sure if it's a sign or I'm just getting VERY ANXIOUS... been so emotional last couple of days xxx

waster86 · 29/05/2024 07:53

So exciting to hear baby news and peoples plans for the next couple of weeks.

I have a section booked for next Wednesday. All of a sudden it feels very real and I am getting pretty overwhelmed! It's my second so know what to expect but kinda think that's the problem 🤣🤣

I am expecting the baby blues and hormones to be mad this time so think it helps knowing it's going to happen rather than being blindsided by that.

@Ad12345678 good luck with your GD appointment. It is overwhelming but it's not too bad once you get your head around it. Gestational diabetes UK Facebook group is amazing!

Good luck ladies 🤞🤞

@FantasticMissFox I've been expressing colostrum for a few days now, struggled at first but realised after a bit of googling I wasn't being firm enough. It takes time still, about 30/40 minutes to fill a 1ml syringe but I just get comfy and put a podcast on and get on with it!

I'd bought some heat / cool gel pads in anticipation of breastfeeding and applying those warm for 10 minutes before I start seems to help get things going. A hot flannel would probably have the same effect.

Edgeofthesea · 29/05/2024 08:37

Hi everybody! I'm jumping on from the May EDD thread, hope that's okay :) I'm 40 + 4 today with Baby 3. My first two births were at 40+10 and 40+8, so I've been fully expecting this to be a June baby. However, both times I laboured for about 4.5 days, so I'm expecting things to start any day. Yesterday I had that familiar lower back pain and I've been having a few very mild tightenings, but my mum doesn't arrive to help with the kids until tomorrow evening so I'm hoping baby stays put for a little bit longer. Planning a home birth this time and we have some backup childcare, but having mum here would be much more relaxing!

Huge congratulations to everyone who has already had their babies, hope recovery is going well 🙏 And good luck to everyone booked in over the next few days. What an exciting time!

Suchardchoccy · 29/05/2024 08:51

@Edgeofthesea ah another home birth! Good luck!! 😊

Suchardchoccy · 29/05/2024 08:52

@CheeseWisely how many weeks were you when you started expressing?

I've got my 36 week midwife appointment today but I will be 37 weeks on Saturday

I was coming up 39 weeks when I started, 39+4 now. I'm getting more from the left than the right and the right is reddish brown so looks like 'rusty pipe syndrome' after a Google. I'm seeing my midwife in a few days (assuming I'm still pregnant!) so will ask her about it then.

Goldie1234 · 29/05/2024 10:06

Oo my midwife has suggested I start expressing colostrum. I've never done it before, can imagine it would be me feel a bit nauseas too ! What are the benefits ? X

oop · 29/05/2024 10:09

@Edgeofthesea welcome to the thread! I'm technically a may due date too (tomorrow) although expecting a June baby as I was moved ahead a whole week at my 12 week scan.

Those of you expressing colostrum I really recommend doing it after a nice warm shower or bath. That's what I always do. It took some time to master in my first pregnancy and it was slow going, especially at first. Make sure you're pushing into the boob with your fingers rather than squeezing your fingers towards eachother if that makes sense. This time round my boobs remember what they're doing and I can easily do three 1ml syringes in about 5 mins, I've had to pace myself haha 😂.

@Goldie1234 benefit wise - I found them really helpful in the first couple of days when my newborn was struggling to latch. I could give him a little syringe of colostrum and that would calm him enough to be able to work on the latch. I also found it helpful to just get familiar with how to hand express etc in advance of the postnatal exhaustion.

To the best of my knowledge it's just a little back up of amazing antibody filled nutrition for baby in the first couple of days if it takes a minute for your milk supply to properly kick in or you struggle to get feeding established at first. It might not be needed but I'd rather have a little supply just in case we do.

Suchardchoccy · 29/05/2024 11:57

@CheeseWisely ah okay my midwife told me to start now if I want! But I'm very certain it put me into labour with my first, although I probably overdid it a bit. Was a bit more cautious with my second.

I always found it useful but it did seem to give me headaches. The midwife has given me some more literature to read on expressing colostrum. I'm measuring big at 38 weeks now so I've got a growth scan on Monday

@CheeseWisely thank you for the tip, I will give that a try. I tried for 5-10 minutes today on each side but got nothing. I've got some heat packs so will give those a go. Definitely helps to be relaxed I find, but the longer I get nothing the more non relaxed I feel!

Goldie1234 · 29/05/2024 13:26

Ooo if it beings on labour I'm giving expressing a go haha
Just been for another weekly scan, was hoping this would be my last at 37 weeks and they'd book in my induction (baby has been measuring small since first growth scan at 28 weeks) but they've booked me in for annnootthherr scaaannn ! I love having them, but the hospital is so over booked each scan takes hours and hours with waiting and then to speak with the consultant.. glad baby doing well though of course and that they're not worried enough for him to come this week.
