@SparkleFly Thank you, me too 😂

Lilbean21 · 18/10/2023 15:46

Hi all, new here can I join?
I'm around 6 weeks along with a surprise pregnancy following an early miscarriage at the start of this year. Absolutely terrified of another loss! Had a little bit of spotting at the start of this pregnancy which was scary but all turned out fine and has stopped now. I'm keen to go for an early scan but not sure if best to wait till around 8 weeks? Any advice is much appreciated! Definitely more worried than excited at this stage and trying not to get my hopes up too much in case things don't work out. Also a difficult week as I would have been due around now so similar feelings to other posters

TheBirdintheCave · 18/10/2023 15:51

@Lilbean21 Welcome :) I had my first scan at 7 weeks, then 9 and now I've got one on Saturday at 10+2. EPU said anything beyond 7 weeks was a good time to book.

Lilbean21 · 18/10/2023 15:59

Thank you @TheBirdintheCave! I'll give the EPU a call and see if I can get in for a scan next week. Hoping it'll help with the nerves! I'm trying to take the nausea as a good sign this time round, can barely keep anything down

suz2285 · 18/10/2023 21:14

@SparkleFly I mean I still felt tired in the 2nd tri but it wasn't as bad after 12 ish weeks for me! Kinda between 12-16 weeks very much a lot of days felt more 'normal' 😂

@Lilbean21 welcome! Yeah I'd say 8 weeks is a good time for a scan if no issues! Lot of the time they can't see much if you're between 6-7 weeks

Nushyboots · 19/10/2023 05:14

Thanks for the reassurance - the constant checking for miscarriage signs, i’m driving myself crazy! I think I may book myself in for a scan before my 12 week one but absolutely terrified that it will be bad news! so kinda stuck in limbo….jusg taking each day as it comes.

tulipsunday · 19/10/2023 09:55

@Nushyboots Yes I understand that feeling. I did find having a scan broke up the wait until the 12 wk scan and seeing the heartbeat was reassuring.

Welcome @Lilbean21 hope you are doing ok everyone. Glad nausea returned @TheBirdintheCave hopefully gives a little piece of mind.

Got my 28wk midwife appointment today. I was double checking my appointment time on badger notes today and spotted I have a growth scan at 3:30 today and meeting with the consultant I didn't even know about! Been a bit stressful sorting out the logistics so I can go. I am sure the midwife said I would have some near the end of the pregnancy due to previous large baby but didn't think she meant today 🤣 note to others if you have badger notes turn on app notifications so you don't get any last minute surprises like me!

@tulipsunday that's a bit ridiculous putting it on the app without telling you about it, people must miss things all the time! good idea though, might go and turn on the notifications, though I'm not expecting any scans

let me know how your 28 week appointment goes, i've got mine on Wednesday next week

we're in the middle of this storm today, but I quickly nipped to aldi and lidl as they have some books/wooden kids toys on special this week. I got some little playmats and some books - mostly for 12months + but they're cute and i'm sure we'll be able to play with them before that!

tulipsunday · 19/10/2023 11:16

@suz2285 aw that's exciting buying the first little bits. I saw that wooden sale advertised on Facebook need to check it out!

28wk appointment was good. Am definitely getting better at blood tests. Had a student midwife so was thinking I hope you know what you are doing ha but she was good 😆 Anti d injection was fine didn't find it bad at all and I'm not the most brave with these sorts of things. Hope your appointment goes well @suz2285

ChloeN · 19/10/2023 15:56

@tulipsunday I had a student for my 28 week bloods and I shit myself but she was soo good!!

Hope everyone else is getting on okay 🥰

suz2285 · 19/10/2023 19:06

@tulipsunday good to know 🤞 I should be fine then hopefully

I've got my sister up and she's randomly testing my blood sugars for me, it doesn't seem like I've got diabetes which is good 👌😂 see what the midwife says next week!

@ChloeN nice to see you! How are you getting on?

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/10/2023 19:52

Trying to catch up with every post but probably end up missing a few!

Welcome @Lilbean21

@SparkleFly I wanna say I'm not as tired now too and I'm 26 weeks tomorrow, but I could still do with a nap most days, but think that's down to my ferritin levels being low!

@Nushyboots I know what you mean, I'm still doing it now, every time I wipe, or if I feel he hasn't moved in a little while, and then he eventually moves, it's such a scary time being pregnant after a loss!

@suz2285 please say you got the cuthbert caterpillar wooden cake toy 😂😂

@tulipsunday I usually get texts reminding me of mine, and every appointment they ask me if things are booked etc, they harass us 😂 I've got my first growth scan on 8th November, which should give an idea of when baby will be being delivered 😬 so nervous! And then after that scans every 2 weeks!

Tbh I feel like some of the students are better than the actual qualified professionals! The amount of midwives or nurses that reuse needles in blood tests!!

ChloeN · 19/10/2023 20:16

@suz2285 ahh we’re good! She’s 12 weeks on Saturday I can’t believe it!! 😲😲

suz2285 · 20/10/2023 10:09

@Brokenpancreas94 I didn't, but it is super cute 😂 I don't think my smaller Aldi had all the range! And it was already selling our quickly!

God that doesn't sound good about reusing needles, I follow a girl on insta that has had so bad injuries from a reused needle in a blood draw!!

@ChloeN that's crazy! It really goes go by so fast doesn't it! ❤️

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/10/2023 10:11

@suz2285 I saw some videos on TikTok of people queuing for the wooden toys 😂🙈

Ohhh Amy Pohl?? It's scary how many people reuse needles, in blood tests!!

@ChloeN it flies by once they're born 😭❤️

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/10/2023 10:49

Just got my winter coat out and it doesn't do up at all 😂🙈 really don't want to pay for a new one though as only a few months left 🙈🤷‍♀️

Lilbean21 · 20/10/2023 12:35

Thnak you all! I've decided to go for private scan at 8 weeks now, just on the off chance I have dates wrong and they can't see anything at 7. @Nushyboots I felt the same but everytime I get a twinge or feel a bit funny I'm worried something is wrong so need to know and can't wait till 12 weeks or I'll go mad! Was initially told I could self refer to EPU as I did before but they are now saying I need GP referral. GP are hesistant as I've only had one previous miscarriage and symptoms ok now so they have said try private. Anyone had experience with ultrasound direct for an early scan? They seem good value in my area and the website talks about qualified sonographers which is reassuring

TheBirdintheCave · 20/10/2023 12:53

@Lilbean21 I've only been to Window to the Womb and the one tomorrow is with The Scanning Room which I think is a local company.

tulipsunday · 20/10/2023 13:01

@Lilbean21 I am pretty sure my sister went to an ultrasound direct and it was good. Window to the womb is my local one.

@Brokenpancreas94 is a pain with coats isn't it. Mine is quite big so does up for now but probs not for much longer 😂 will have to dig out a big scarf!

@ChloeN aw 12 wks wow! How are you finding being on maternity leave?

OP posts:
Brokenpancreas94 · 20/10/2023 13:07

@Lilbean21 I got a scan from EPU when I was around 8 weeks but I had brown discharge only a little bit, and they got me in for a scan.

@tulipsunday it really is 😬 and it's very windy and wet here today, I look like a drowned rat lol

Lilbean21 · 20/10/2023 13:21

Good luck for your scan tomorow @TheBirdintheCave! Thanks @tulipsunday we have a window to the womb near us but they don't seem to have as many appointments, I'll need to nip out in my lunchbreak so I don't need to take any time off work
@Brokenpancreas94 that makes sense, when I was having the bleeding a few weeks ago they said it was too early to do anything so watch and wait. Sounds like I may be able to access a bit more support in a few weeks time. Just need someone to have a look and tell me everything is fine or if something is wrong already I don't want to wait till 12 weeks to find out!

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/10/2023 13:24

@Lilbean21 someone else told me to lie to get seen, I didn't want to lie though, but they were good with me...this time around, weren't good with my MC though. I think it's pick of the hat with who you get. I hope you get to get seen soon! Xx

Good luck @TheBirdintheCave xx

suz2285 · 20/10/2023 21:46

@Brokenpancreas94 yeah Amy Pohl! Scary story! There was a few people looking at the wooden toys when I was there but yeah some people go crazy 😂 I bought a new coat in decathalon today was only £30 and figured that it'll def be needed for 3-4 months at least so that's not too bad!

@Lilbean21 we've got an ultrasound direct here and they seem good, I haven't been but they've got good reviews, most private places I've heard good things about tbh! Like you say it's better not to wait till the 12 weeks and hopefully they can reassure you! I didn't get any extra support from EPU this time either but I've been seen fast if I've had bleeding etc... but only from around 7-8 weeks onward usually! I've always done a private scan 8-9 weeks ish to check all ok...

SparkleFly · 21/10/2023 07:17

Good luck today @TheBirdintheCave

How strict is everyone being with caffeine? With my son I ate tons of chocolate then didn't realise until my antenatal class in 3rd trimester that it's included in the caffeine allowance. This time around I'm obviously a lot more anxious and have stuck to 2 cups of tea and minimal chocolate per day.
Today, however, we are going to Cadbury World so am in a bit of a dilemma...
