@Poppins2016 @Bluesky85 @Growinganaries Hope your scans go well today!

@theodora2146 Great news about your scan! In regards to the vitamin D, the NHS recommends a daily amount of 400iu but advises that actually anything up to 4000iu daily is safe. My pregnacare vitamins contain the 400iu so it would be perfectly safe to take additional vitamin D alongside. Check your pregnancy vitamins and what the doctors have prescribed but my guess is you'll be well under that upper limit.

Thanks so much for remembering @sugarplum33 :))

Had scan today and all went well thankfully!

They measured me at 13+4 which technically pushes me to 31/3/24 EDD!

Hope everyone else is keeping well xx

Bluesky85 · 28/09/2023 16:59

Snap @Growinganaries I had my scan today and the same due date as you!

BVIre · 28/09/2023 17:07

So lovely to hear of scans going well!

I am being a big melt today but was it normal at everyone else’s scan/booking appointment that their partners weren’t allowed into to some points of the appointment (& by some I mean most!)

as I’ve said before this is my first pregnancy so this could all be very normal but my DH is so excited and yesterday at my booking appointment we were in for 2 hours and he was only allowed into the scan part?

I kind of understand why he didn’t come for a few bits like the first room I went into was with a nurse and she just did my blood pressure and carbon monoxide test, and then after the scan she took me off again to do my bloods but she told him he couldn’t come in to these & then he was allowed in for the scan but after everything had to go sit with the midwife for 30+ mins and the nurse said they didn’t need him for that either?

totally understand this could be normal protocol but still feels weird having DH their if he was only allowed to come to the scan part, especially when there was so much info given throughout the appointment- it felt quite overwhelming to be by myself when all the info was given!

Bluesky85 · 28/09/2023 17:28

@BVIre my partner didn’t come to my booking in appointment- but did to the scan- but they were separate appointments. I agree that it seems silly he couldn’t accompany to you to most of it. However I think part of this is a safeguarding thing as they want you to be able to share openly and honestly with the midwife elements of your past or your health that your partner may not know. For example sexual health. Also at some point they probably asked you about your partner and your relationship with him. Again you need a safe space to be able to tell them if you have any concerns about him. I know it may seem overkill if your relationship is fine but unfortunately there is quite a lot of domestic violence/ abuse out there and statistically it can escalate when a baby is on the way. I actually cried at my booking in appointment as I was feeling really stressed about various things and they were really kind and reassuring and actually it was nice to be able to tell them how I was feeling without my partner there (even though it was nothing to do with him!) as I think I was carrying lots of anxiety that I didn’t want to share with as I didn’t want him to worry.

I think future appointments will probably be more accommodating of him as they are less probing! But there may be times he’s asked to leave the room occasionally

BVIre · 28/09/2023 17:48

@Bluesky85 thanks so much for this! I assumed it must’ve been for a good reason! But yes even when the nurse took me in to take my blood pressure she was giving all the info on vaccines & giving me the nhs pregnancy book and telling me which parts to read and said that my partner had to read it to! Just felt like there was so much more info but yes totally understand that they have to put mums safety first in these appointments!

think next time I’ll just insist he comes with me unless there’s a good reason not to lol he just calms me and I’m such a stress head!

Bluesky85 · 28/09/2023 17:54

@BVIre yes I know there’s so much info! I left my appointment armed with aspirin and iron tablets and when I got home I couldn’t remember which I was meant to start taking when, and how many tablets on how many days! I normally have a good memory but think it was information overload plus I was so embarrassed about bawling my eyes out I wasn’t listening properly!

BVIre · 28/09/2023 18:11

@Bluesky85 glad it’s not only me! Normally I’m quite level headed but since finding out I’m pregnant all logic seems to go out the window lol!

sugarplum33 · 28/09/2023 20:05

@Growinganaries @Bluesky85 So glad your scans went well, great news all around today!

Butterfliesandroses · 29/09/2023 12:14

I had my scan this morning, all went well with an EDD of 3rd April 🥰 x

So I've had some blood tests at the doctors last week and they have come back to say my vitamin D is low but I'm currently taking a pregnancy multivitamin that contains the recommended dose of vitamin D. Is it safe to take the additional supplements prescribed by the doctors?

Before my transfer, ym bloods came back with low vit D.
I was already taking the prenatal vitamins, which have vit D.
Doc prescribed me some vit D tablets, which said to take 1 per MONTH. My doctors dosage was one PER WEEK!.

It is fine! You cant actually overdose on vit D!

Mammac85 · 29/09/2023 12:50

I finally have my booking in appointment booked 😊 next Thursday, they are having to rush me in as im already over 10 weeks so no idea when I will get my first scan.

Has anyone noticed they feel less bloated the closer to 12 weeks they get?

Misty84 · 29/09/2023 13:23

Hi @Mammac85 I was more bloated in the earlier weeks; it was all day, all the time. I’m nearly 12 weeks and now just get bloated in the evenings (look like I’m already 5 months pregnant!🙈)

Mammac85 · 29/09/2023 13:39

@Misty84 I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and even though this isn't my first pregnancy I can't remember when the bloating stopped last time, I think im still in the worry stage till I've seen baby at a scan.

Misty84 · 29/09/2023 14:40

@Mammac85 Im also 12 weeks tomorrow🥰, the furthest I’ve ever got after 4 years of TTC.
When is your scan? Mine is on Monday 🤞

dory0 · 29/09/2023 19:13

So pleased to hear of lots of positive scans. My NHS scan is booked for 2 weeks time.

DH has tested positive for covid though and I am freaking out a bit 😫 might be too late but desperate to not catch it if I can. Any tips or reassurance welcome. I had it about 10 months ago (and strangely he didn’t catch it then) hoping I’ve got some antibodies still hanging around…

Mammac85 · 29/09/2023 19:16

@Misty84 my scan hasn't even been booked yet I only have my booking in appointment next Thursday which is really late, I was supposed to have it last week but I had covid so had to cancel.
I bet you can't wait for your scan on Monday.

Pinkstuffs · 29/09/2023 19:19

@dory0 my husband has had covid 3 times, badly, and I’ve never caught it from him. As soon as we suspect he has it, he goes to the spare room and doesn’t come out - I bring him food and drinks and leave them outside the room, he puts the dirty plates etc out and I wash my hands after handling them. I go round and disinfect surfaces and door handles/light switches as well. We’re lucky that we have two bathrooms so he uses one and I use the other. It sounds extreme and it’s quite a lonely way to live for a few days but I’ve never caught it from him!

Pinkstuffs · 29/09/2023 19:23

(@dory0 we started doing this as he caught it a week before we were going on an expensive holiday and I was thinking, Sod’s law he’ll be recovered enough to go and I’ll be poorly! It seemed to work so we’ve just kept it up whenever he catches it. I wfh and he doesn’t so is always picking up bugs)

dory0 · 29/09/2023 19:28

@Pinkstuffs Thank you! This gives me some hope. Luckily we do have a spare room and two bathrooms so he’s going to do exactly that from now. Just hoping I haven’t already picked it up 🤞

Bizjustgotreal · 30/09/2023 07:08

I got COVID at 12 weeks pregnant with my first - I'm not saying don't be cautious, but apart from a cough and a monster of a headache, I was fine, baby was born fine. I did have complications from 34w, but I already had family history of pre-e and hbp which were the ones I had.

I hope you all recover fast and well!

sugarplum33 · 30/09/2023 08:06

@dory0 How are you today? And how's DH? I think it sounds like a good plan to isolate if you can but there's every chance you won't catch it anyway. We were told you only have to basically brush past someone with Covid to catch it but that certainly hasn't been the experience in our house. When I had Covid mildly I continued to look after my daughter and didn't isolate from my DH and they were both fine. A few months later my daughter caught it and immediately passed it to my DH and they were both really unwell. I had to look after her so figured there wasn't much point trying to isolate so we carried on as normal and I didn't catch it. Doesn't seem much rhyme or reason to it really!

Ttcmumma · 30/09/2023 08:57

I am so anxious and nervous this weekend! I haven't had a scan since 6 weeks (I was too scared to go and see what could be) but I have my 12 week scan on Monday, at 9am. My last 12 week scan we found my baby had died at 10+6 so I'm absolutely petrified to go and see what could be. I really think my eyes will be closed and I'll be holding my breath the entire scan. I can't forget the image of the very still baby, with no movement or blood flow etc, it's so scarring. So scared I'll be in the same room too, it's the same hospital and I don't know if I can handle the scan being in the exact same room, really hoping it'll be one of the other rooms. Trying to remind myself that last time I had a feeling something was wrong, this time I don't, tho I haven't felt pregnant since about 9 weeks. God I'm so scared 🤦🏼‍♀️

dory0 · 30/09/2023 09:25

Thanks @Bizjustgotreal I’m just starting to feel a bit less nauseous and tired pregnancy symptom wise, so would really prefer not to get covid now! Good to know all was fine when you had it during pregnancy.

@sugarplum33 agree, it’s strange! I’m feeling fine, DH is suffering a bit but he’ll be ok. I am delivering drinks and supplies to his door!

@Ttcmumma so sorry to hear how scared you are feeling. That’s really tough. Just a couple of days to get through until your appointment. Can you plan anything nice to distract yourself as much as possible this weekend? Will be keeping everything crossed for you that your scan goes well on Monday x

sugarplum33 · 30/09/2023 10:19

@Ttcmumma You poor thing, that sounds like a hideous experience and I'm not surprised you're scared. Statistically you were really unlucky last time and just focusing on those statistics it's far, far more likely than not that you'll have a really positive experience this time. Like @dory0 said you're really close so try if you can to plan a busy weekend to keep your mind off things and the scan will be here before you know it. Crossing my fingers and hoping you see your baby kicking away on Monday morning.
