Has my private scan this evening, all looking good and measuring 9+2. Saw the heart beat and baby was even wriggling and moving little arm and leg buds 🥰

Mrsttcno1 · 26/09/2023 20:12

Amazing news @theodora2146 congratulations! Xxx

CinderRosie · 26/09/2023 21:11

Great news @theodora2146 💕

I’m now 10+3, and don’t have my NHS scan until I’m 13+1 so I’m finding time is really dragging. It’s getting more difficult to hide my bloat and I feel terrible for lying to colleagues about why I’m not working at 100%.

ASGIRC · 26/09/2023 21:20

@Pinkstuffs while I havent been sick yet, yes, my nausea is always worse in the afternoons/evenings. In the morning Im usually fine!

Mrsttcno1 · 26/09/2023 09:23

Does anyone else have like stretching/very light aches in the bottom of their tummy/pelvis? I wouldn’t say it’s a pain, and not all the time, I’m aware everything is stretching down there so don’t want to be a drama queen and ring the midwife, but is this normal? X

Not so much in this pregnancy (think I'm "pre-stretched"!), but I definitely had these symptoms in my previous two successful pregnancies and it's completely normal. I'd actually describe some of my symptoms (in previous pregnancies) as quite "stabby" and painful! With this baby, my third, I'm only just starting to experience a very mild dull ache occasionally now that I'm around 11/12 weeks. Seems that all pregnancies are different!

theodora2146 · 27/09/2023 08:23

So I've had some blood tests at the doctors last week and they have come back to say my vitamin D is low but I'm currently taking a pregnancy multivitamin that contains the recommended dose of vitamin D. Is it safe to take the additional supplements prescribed by the doctors?

sugarplum33 · 27/09/2023 08:46

@Poppins2016 @Bluesky85 @Growinganaries Hope your scans go well today!

@theodora2146 Great news about your scan! In regards to the vitamin D, the NHS recommends a daily amount of 400iu but advises that actually anything up to 4000iu daily is safe. My pregnacare vitamins contain the 400iu so it would be perfectly safe to take additional vitamin D alongside. Check your pregnancy vitamins and what the doctors have prescribed but my guess is you'll be well under that upper limit.

Butterfliesandroses · 27/09/2023 09:34

@theodora2146 one of the supplements recommended to me by my recurrent miscarriage consultant was vitamin D, so I have been taking that in addition to a multivitamin since early on. According to the consultant there has been research to show low vitamin D is a miscarriage risk (mine was also low) so I'd say go ahead and take it! X

Poppins2016 · 27/09/2023 10:14

Thanks @sugarplum33 but don't worry if you don't hear from me as my scan is actually tomorrow! 🙂

sugarplum33 · 27/09/2023 10:17

Omg I'm on the wrong day, I thought today was Thursday 🤣

Sorry I thought I was being super organised wishing you all well but alas, baby brain. So hope all goes well tomorrow @Poppins2016 @Growinganaries @Bluesky85 :)

Poppins2016 · 27/09/2023 10:28

I thought yesterday was Wednesday... even emailed the maternity physio to ask whether they were late calling for my appointment or whether I'd missed them rescheduling... only to realise that it was Tuesday (Wednesday/today is the day my appointment is actually booked for) 🙄🤣

Ek21 · 27/09/2023 11:42

@theodora2146 Same thing happened me with the bloods, low vitamin D, so my gp recommended I take 2 vit D tablets a day instead of one. Have my first hospital appointment next week so I guess I will know then if the double dose helped!

sugarplum33 · 27/09/2023 13:08

Glad it's not just me losing the plot @Poppins2016 🤪

BVIre · 28/09/2023 08:57

Hi everyone! Had my first NHS appointment yesterday & baby measuring 11+4, that was my first time even speaking to a midwife as in my area they do first scan/booking appointment all in one!

This is pregnancy number 1 for us so because I’m not the full 12 weeks yet I’m still feeling a bit apprehensive about telling people? I don’t know if it’s because I had 12 weeks drilled into my head but I won’t have another appointment until 16 weeks and I don’t think it’s a scan so don’t know if I wait until then to tell people?

apologies if this is all silly! But haven’t really had any symptoms so far which has been unnerving so I think part of me is reluctant to tell people because I still don’t feel pregnant! Any advice is appreciated xo

(my mum & dad & brother know and we are planning to tell DH mum on Sunday)! Told work yesterday when I came back from my appointment because I get on quite well with my boss & wanted her to know sooner rather than later!

Mrsttcno1 · 28/09/2023 09:05

Congratulations @BVIre ! If I was in your shoes I’d be happy to tell people now. People just say “12 weeks” because that scan is typically your “12 week scan”, but it can actually be done any time between 11 and 14 weeks I believe, so that is your scan done and your next NHS scan won’t be until 20 weeks. If you’re ready to share your news now I would say go for it! X

sugarplum33 · 28/09/2023 09:12

@BVIre Although you're not quite 12 weeks, that was still your '12 week scan' and if everything was looking good that's a really good indication that the pregnancy is developing well and is likely to continue which is often the point people tell others. Your 16 week appointment will just be a health check up really and won't tell you anything about baby's development so I doubt it will give you any extra reassurances if you're not already feeling reassured enough to tell people. Alternatively you could wait until the 20 week scan but a lot of women are clearly showing by then. Ultimately there's no right or wrong time to tell people but unless you will get a private scan before 20 weeks there won't be any other checks on how the baby is developing until that point and so if you plan to tell people before then anyway then there is no time like the present :) congratulations on your scan x

Mrsttcno1 · 28/09/2023 09:30

Has anyone found themselves basically being passed between GP and midwife for non-pregnancy related issues? I’m certain I have a water infection at the moment, the GP says I need to contact my midwife instead as I’m pregnant, but my midwife says it’s a GP issue because they can’t prescribe antibiotics ?🤣 so I’m stuck weeing 50 million times a day basically and nobody can see me to check a sample and give antibiotics! X

Ttcmumma · 28/09/2023 09:37

@Mrsttcno1 this is 100% a GP issue and also needs to be dealt with asap as it can progress to a kidney infection and preterm labour. Your gp sounds awful! With my son, I had about 5 urine infection, one of the was caught quite late and I woke up in severe pain and pouring of blood at 4am one morning, had to be rushed to hospital. Thankfully preterm labour hadn't begun (was about 24 weeks) but they said I was lucky and if I hadn't rushed in, it could have got a lot worse quickly. Gp would test my wee and prescribe antibiotics immediately everytime I felt one coming on after this. I got used to the feeling so caught the rest early. I never get them out of pregnancy but for them constant with my son's pregnancy.

Please request to speak to another GP or push and don't give in. The midwife won't be able to help with this

Mrsttcno1 · 28/09/2023 09:44

oh bless you @Ttcmumma that sounds awful! Thank you! I’ll definitely keep on at the GP, I honestly think our GP is just so oversubscribed that they don’t have time for appointments honestly, so especially now I’m pregnant they’re probably just seeing it as one less person they have to deal with as they will pass that buck to the midwives!

If I can’t get a GP appointment I may be able to get an appointment at a walk in centre because it really is just a case of dip testing the urine and prescribing antibiotics, silly really to not just get it out the way! X

Ttcmumma · 28/09/2023 09:47

@Mrsttcno1 it's very silly to be honest, after my last miscarriage I had a urine infection and my doctors were amazing, she texted me to come in and give a pee sample, I left it with reception and within 10 mins she said it's positive for infection I've sent antibiotics to your chemist. Literally didn't even have an actual appointment 😅 my doctors are actually so much better when I'm pregnant. When I'm not, they're like yours are now and very dismissive, take days to get back to you etc but when I'm pregnant they're so on it lol. I've never had to speak to a midwife about anything besides the usual appointments you get at 16 weeks etc. Strange how all practices work completely different x

BVIre · 28/09/2023 09:50

Thanks so much @Mrsttcno1 & @sugarplum33 thats so helpful! DH trying to reassure me but still so anxious something could go wrong, also completely overthinking that the scan showed the wee baby was only measuring 11+4 but I think my due date based on ovulation should should’ve put me at 11+6 - total overthinker!!!

yes maybe we will start telling people after we tell DH mum & sisters on Sunday!

Poppins2016 · 28/09/2023 11:49

@sugarplum33 at least I remembered what day it was yesterday (useful telephone appointment with maternity physio) and today (12 week scan)!

Scan went well, baby was very wriggly and gave us lots of waves! All looks OK 🙂

sugarplum33 · 28/09/2023 12:02

@Poppins2016 Brilliant news, so pleased for you!

@BVIre Don't worry about your dates being a few days out, it's really just a matter of millimetres at this stage. I also reckon that even at this stage babies are all a bit different in size. Some babies are born full term at 6lbs and others at 11lbs, I can't therefore believe that every first trimester foetus will be the exact same size on the same date.

Poppins2016 · 28/09/2023 12:06

@BVIre I truly wouldn't worry about a difference of a couple of days. These dates are based on tiny measurements and I believe different sonographers measure each baby ever so slightly differently (the human factor!). In my last pregnancy, my "official" due date was actually impossible/100% inaccurate as I would have had to have conceived days before the date we even had sex (we only had sex once that month, so I'm certain)!

After a successful scan at this point where you've seen a heartbeat and movement, the chances of a negative outcome are really low. NCT give some statistics:

"Most miscarriages occur at the start of pregnancy. The overall probability of a pregnancy ending in miscarriage in the UK is: 25% at four weeks; 5% at eight weeks; 1.7% at 12 weeks; and 0.5% at 16 weeks.
More than 80% of miscarriages occur within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. After 12 weeks, the rate decreases rapidly."
