Hey guys, so basically, my husband, daughter and I live with my mum currently, and I just became pregnant again with my second baby. My mum is not happy at all about this, because I had agreed with her to not get pregnant again until I move out, (because it's so hard for her right now keeping all of us in her house as well as my other siblings.) so she basically doesn't accept my pregnancy and is kicking me out. She has given me two days to leave the house. So I will be pregnant and homeless with my 19 month old and husband😭what shall I do? Me and my husband can't afford to private rent otherwise we wouldn't even be living with my mum right now. I don't work and receive universal credit and carers allowance because I am my mom's carer. My husband does work but only gets minimum wage. And my biggest problem is that my husband is from abroad. And when applying for his visa, the home office asked where he would live after arriving in the UK. We said he would live with my mum, and she was required to give written confirmation of that, which she did. She literally wrote in the letter that he can live in her house. We even had to have a property inspection to make sure there will be enough space for my husband, my baby and I as well as my mom and siblings. So basically, he wouldn't have even got the visa if my mother had not consented to him living here. And now, 6 months after he's arrived, this has happened...she wants us out of her house...will this effect his immigration status or anything? Will they blame us for this? Will they help us? Someone please help I'm so so so so upset and stressed, and I feel like such a bad mom to my babies😭

How far pregnant are you? Why did you get pregnant after your mum asking you not to, as part of the terms of you all living there? Was your husband forceful with unprotective sex or were you willing in this as well? İf he was forceful, I wouldn't worry about his visa. Or if you were just careless then, sorry but you're part of the blame for this homelessness situation too.
You can go to the local council and be temporarily housed in a hotel or studio apartment, but I wouldn't tell them that you got pregnant after your mum asked you not to, as it could be seen as you getting intentionally homeless.

Whataretheodds · 29/07/2023 16:59

How important is it to you to continue this pregnancy (compared with keeping a roof over your head?)

I didn't plan the pregnancy at all, we literally used protection and I still got pregnant

If you're in the early stages have a termination. Not trying to be deliberately rude or harsh but you chose to get pregnant again knowing you'd be homeless if you did, we all have to take some responsibility for our choices and you have a choice to make now. Look after yourself and your existing child and keep a roof over their head or carry on with the pregnancy and be homeless.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/07/2023 17:01

Are you sure you want to continue with this pregnancy?

I'd try calmly talking to your mom. You understand why she's upset, but as you're so early and the pregnancy won't change anything ATM, can you please stay until you've had chance to talk to the council. You need to present to the Council Monday as homeless and see if they'll put you into a hostel

Ollifer · 29/07/2023 17:02

Also, what on earth were you thinking bringing another child into the world when you can't afford anything at the moment with the one child you already have? It's just ridiculous

truthhurts23 · 29/07/2023 17:02

apply for emergency housing through your council not sure if they will house your partner though, but you and the kids will be housed

alittleadvicepls · 29/07/2023 17:03

Where is your husband from? Would moving to his country be an option? Would it be easier to access accomodation and have his family’s support in his country?

The pregnancy was totally unexpected, but I would never even think about ending my pregnancy. I don't know why you would even question "how important it is to continue the pregnancy". Because I obviously wouldn't be putting up this post if it wasn't important. I know there is help out there for people in these kind of situations, and that's all I'm seeking. Please be careful of what you say, your words could really effect someone!

How would you care for your Mum if you moved out?

alittleadvicepls · 29/07/2023 17:05

I don’t think @Whataretheodds waa being malicious! I suppose this isn’t just about you and the pregnancy. It’s also about your existing child.

Have you ever heard of unplanned/unexpected pregnancies? Seriously educate yourself and stop being so horrible.

I think it’s a valid question to ask why you wouldn’t prioritise your existing child over a very early pregnancy.

Um. She literally suggested I kill my unborn child?

She's not bothered about that. She can easily get another carer. So I guess I just won't be her carer anymore

How would you care for your Mum if you moved out?

I mean in terms of you receiving your carer's allowance, presumably she needs significant support? How would that work if you.had to move out?

bibbityboppityboo · 29/07/2023 17:08

I think @Whataretheodds raised a really valid point tbh.

If you're certain you want to continue with the pregnancy, then you need to make yourself known to everyone - midwife, local council, any services in your local area, that might be able to help you find a new place to live. Is a refuge or similar available locally?

Queenxxx · 29/07/2023 17:08

I think @Whataretheodds has asked a very valid question. Surely it would be better to end the pregnancy than try and deal with that and homelessness at the same time. The council will house you but probably not your partner aswell. Also, be very careful if his visa is dependent on living with your mother and make sure he gets specialist advice.

Whataretheodds · 29/07/2023 17:09

Queenxxx · 29/07/2023 17:06

No I didn't, I asked how important it was for you to continue the pregnancy. You have choices that exist for good reason. All the choices have consequences and you're entirely entitled to decide that some of them aren't right for you.

Queenxxx · 29/07/2023 17:10

Guys. Please stop suggesting I end my pregnancy. I have obviously considered all of my options and that is just not something I will do. I need your help/advice on how I can deal with homelessness. Will the council help me? Will they help my partner? This is what I need advice on, not my pregnancy. Please don't trigger my mental health by commenting on my pregnancy

I think you've had good advice from posters here, and your mother was very clear that she didn't want to house an additional child. Having your adult child back home along with a partner and kid(s) is a big ask.

You can ask the council for help but it would likely be temp accommodation at first - you may not have full cooking facilities, may not be in your local area and may have to vacate the accommodation during the day.

Motnight · 29/07/2023 17:14

Your mum has obviously had enough of letting the 3 of you stay in her house, and can't stand the thought of adding another baby to the mix. Sounds like the house must be full if there's other siblings there as well, and I assume that as you are (were?) your mother's carer she isn't in great physical health. I can understand why she's unhappy about things.

IHadTheLasagne · 29/07/2023 17:15

I don't think it's right to pile on someone in a clearly vulnerable position. Hopefully someone with informed advice will join the thread soon.
